Swish Little Kids was created by me, Maisie, a mum who was looking for an eco-friendly way to save money on kid's clothes.

Since having my daughter, Emmie, I have accumulated so many baby clothes. Since she was born lots of lovely friends and family have given us gifts and I also bought a fair amount of baby clothes myself. What I didn’t anticipate was how quickly Emmie would grow out of these. Although I would love to keep all the outgrown clothes in case I have another baby, I quickly realised I didn’t have the space to store them all - our small flat was turning into some kind of children’s clothes warehouse. However, I didn’t want to give them all away to charity or friends as kid’s clothes are expensive!

This got me thinking. How useful it would be if I could find a service where I could trade in the clothes that Emmie had grown out of in exchange for clothes in the next size up. This would free up space in our house and also mean Emmie would always have clothes for her current age. It would also mean I could save some money by cashing in on the clothes Emmie had outgrown.

I am also quite environmentally minded and was worried about the impact that having so many clothes was having on the environment. I found out around £140 million worth of old clothes, which is the equivalent to around 350, 000 tonnes, will end up in landfill in the UK in 2017. This is staggering! I hope that if there is an easy way for people to reuse old children’s clothing then it will be a step towards reducing this amount in the future.

With this in mind I decided to launch a website that allows people to cash in on old clothes in exchange for credit to spend on quality, good as new children’s clothes other people no longer needed – simple! All clothes on the site are also for sale meaning all the great quality second hand children’s clothes are available to all at a much cheaper price than buying them new, even if you don’t have anything to trade in.
