#worldsuicidepreventionday today and it makes me think of the clients I've worked with who have weathered the darkest of storms and made remarkable turnarounds. Change can happen. Hang on in there and get some help. If you're reading this and you're contemplating suicide, there are people out there who can help you. You can call Samaritans on 116 123 (24 hrs), or if you feel in immediate danger, go to A&E or call 999 if in UK/ROI. Please stay safe, you matter. ❀️ #wspd

I've been invited to join the ranks of the emerging professionals committee at the International Society For The Study Of Trauma And Dissociation. Not sure what that means, exactly, but I'm very much looking forward to finding out! (& meeting other professionals working in the field)

According to the Office of National Statistics (ONS) using data from 2011-2015 (age range 20-64), male musicians are 2.52 times more likely to die by suicide than the general male population. #suicide #statistics #musicindustry #musicbiz #mentalhealth

What if artist & crew emotional well-being was considered before, during and after tours occurred...where people could be assessed and working with psychotherapists, psychiatrists & addiction recovery coaches ahead of touring (where necessary), where tour lengths & the number of show days in a row before breaks was regulated or at the least reflective of physical/emotional/psychological capacity, where addictive triggers were taken into account, where daily self-care practice...s were built in to schedules, where production & tour managers were trained on recognising the signs of burn out/depression/addiction/anxiety, where access to supportive resources, excercises & helplines were included in tour bibles & in all green rooms, where feelings were discussed with regular TM/manager/therapist check ins & where time online/in person with friends & family was built in, where off days were regular & NEVER travel or press days, where post-tour depression & disconnectedness was anticipated & prepared for... I’m using my live music industry experience & touring + psychotherapy research to help create Best Practice docs to better support the touring live music industry. Watch. This. Space.

If you’re wondering if therapy is right for you.... I work with musicians, security guards, actors, admin assistants, film directors, scientists, music producers, carers, rappers, designers, sex workers, property developers, students, managers, PRs, surveyors, event managers, art directors, fashion forecasters, games developers, parents, journalists, label managers, teachers, creatives, social workers, brand consultants & psychologists.... My clients have diverse histories, lifestyles, beliefs, perspectives, occupational hazards & needs but they all share something in common: they are all seeking clarity, emotional support & understanding through therapy.

BBC Radio 4's Front Row discussed the high rates of suicide amongst performing artists (amongst men are 20% higher & 69% higher for women in performing arts according to ONS), occupational stresses & debunking the troubled genius myth

To the gentleman who left me a voicemail from a private number this morning voicing his concerns regarding my practice offering services to the LGBT+ community.... If you would like to address your fear and anger, feel free to email me and we can arrange a session to discuss this further. Your hatred will only eat away at you and cause further pain to you and those you project it on to.

Kenneth Wright’s Vision & Separation between Mother & Baby is a stone cold attachment theory classic, but this one is easily my favourite πŸ–€πŸ₯‡. In it he describes how non-verbal symbolic communication conveys the shapes & textures of emotive experience and provides a direct channel between artist an audience, evoking resonant & containing responses (mirroring & attunement). πŸ‘ŒπŸ»

Many will feel England's #worldcup loss deeply today - disappointment, pain, anger, irritability, difficulty concentrating, hopelessness, helplessness, despondency even despair. If this is you, check how in with how you are feeling. Name it, feel it, talk it out. And remember: their failure IS NOT your failure!

A big part of why I decided to retrain at the Bowlby Centre starts today - an 18 month infant observation. I'll observe a primary caregiver & newborn weekly & watch how the baby's attachment strategies & sense of self develops in relation to it's environment. Looking forward to weaving together attachment theory, neuroscience, child development & psychoanalysis. Lovely way to start the week...

In the news this week we have heard of the scale of conversion therapy still being practiced by therapists & religious groups in the UK. I'm sending love to my LGBT+ brethren who are marching today in all their glory. Love needs no cure. πŸŒˆβ€οΈπŸ§‘πŸ’›πŸ’šπŸ’™πŸ’œπŸŒˆ #pride
