Lorenzo Caballero is the Founder and Chief Instructor of the Bromley Martial Arts Club, which was established in May 1982.

Lorenzo Started practising Martial Arts in February 1976 in Mallorca, Spain. Presently Lorenzo is a Master Instructor in Tae Kwon Do, Muay Thai and Thai-Bo, as well as being the President and Chief Examiner of the Chung Do Kwan Group, the Chairman of the British Muay Thai Association, the founder of the Thai-Bo Fitness Group and a recognised International examiner & referee.

Thai-Bo is a non-contact martial arts based fitness system that incorporates the awesome techniques of Muay Thai (Thai-Boxing) and the speed and grace of Taekwondo (the Korean martial art) together with a simple aerobic routine.

Our group has been at the forefront of the martial arts since 1982 and over the years we have encountered lots of people who, although they enjoy martial arts training, for one reason or another they do not enjoy the physical contact especially as some clubs are very competition oriented nowadays.

Thai-Bo was born out of the need to make martial arts more accessible to those who wanted to participate in and share the benefits of martial arts training from a fitness point of view without feeling the pressure to spar in class or take part in competition.

It was in early 1994 that Lorenzo first conceived the idea of Thai-Bo. In those days our traditional martial arts classes were hard work and perhaps aimed at the more dedicated ones.

As a special request from some of our members we introduced a new class to our timetable. This was a fun class, combining martial arts techniques with a simple aerobics routine. This class proved to be popular with those who were less interested in sparring but still wanted to participate in and enjoy some kind of martial arts training. Thai-Bo is a dynamic blend of Thai-Kickboxing, Taekwondo and aerobics. Incorporating kicks, punches, knees, elbows and blocks with pad work, circuit training and a martial arts based aerobic routine.

Exercising is, unfortunately, not a priority in the daily routine of most people. Quite often, it features very low on the “MUST DO” list.

Therefore, a fitness class must be fun, exciting and challenging without being too hard or difficult to follow. A Thai-Bo class is a complete workout. A short warm up and stretching leads on to the martial arts aerobic workout for stamina, fitness and coordination.

Padwork follows which helps increase power and balance and encourages technique development. The circuit training provides a burst of cardiovascular activity with emphasis on speed. This is followed by strength building and toning exercises and the cool down and gentle stretching to finish.
