That 60'S Place Description

"That 60's Place' journey started with a search for the best bacon baguette on the Isle of Wight leading to the then Octopus Garden café. Unfortunately business took a turn for the worse and the café disappeared, the baguette was lost, a piece of Cowes history sunk without a trace or perhaps not. A seed of an idea continued my journey through time and relative dimension in space. What if The Beetles were the centre of planet earth in the 60's? How many degrees of separation could there be? How were memories created and where is that bacon baguette? 'So where to go, what to do?, ' I asked. The answer blew in with the wind with an old amusement arcade vacancy in Cowes and the journey continued. But how to go back in time, how would they get there? Not everyone could have a Tardis, but maybe an Italian Job Mini or a VW camper, hippie van or splitty could do the job. My virtual journey ended up with a virtual online meeting with Stephen from Universal Classics in March 2015 to purchase a Vdub that travelled from Brazil, via Manchester to Cowes, a green mean split screen machine not to be confused with a Blue Meanie or a Magical Mystical Bus. By now the seed of an idea was sprouting! Even faster when I found the video of The Beetles playing 'Ticket To Ride' on Dr Who in 1965 as Vicki looked back from 1996 (really?) and commented on their days of 'classical music' fame. The movie Zulu starring Michael Cane is etched into my young memories as was a gift from my parents of my first push button cassette recorder and tape of Tom Jones, could they too be part of the 60's phenomenon? Were they somehow connected in The Beetles universe. I met Mark of Memorabilia UK, who became a key source of collectables on my journey, but still no bacon baguette! Writing to the BBC didn't shine any light on my search through time and relative dimension in space, then I met Andrew, a hobbyist and builder and eventually a Dalek invaded my living room along with a terracotta warrior and horse from Xian, China, but that's another story. The conversion by another Andy of the green mean split screen machine into the sparkling red and white version today was enhanced with a bit of Owen carpentry magic. The love lounge and an electric mix of future of the era and iconic events bring home the 60's feeling. So join us on a journey through time and space connecting with the bands, the music, the heartbeat of the sixties, the explosion of movies, television, fashion and design icons and quirky humour all in the search for the lost bacon baguette. . . or crepe. . . or a rosti. A journey of discovery and memories, yours, mine, everyone's in That 60's Place"

We visited for dinner and drinks on Saturday evening (21st July.) Staff were super friendly and gave us a very warm welcome. The cocktails were absolutely delicious! I want to go back & try them all. Our food was perfect & again, I’d love to go back & make my way through the menu as I was seriously spoilt for choice!

We had a wonderful late breakfast there this morning. Im sure they could have said no as we were right on the finish time 11.00......but they still did it no problem.

Great food wonderful atmosphere, i loved the 60s music and memorabilia both film and music.

The two ladies working there were both charming, friendly and great at their jobs.....really top quality.

All in all me and my wife will come back again.... we want to try the cocktails next time lol.

Tapas on grey and rainy Saturday afternoon in Cowes in January. Stepping out of the grey into a colourful, bright, warm and friendly, 60's themed cafe. Great deco, love the camper van bar, along with some cool 1960's memorabilia to peruse while ordering our tapas dishes. The food was delicious with five separate tapas dishes served simultaneously, garlic, bean and broccoli and the chorizo and honey were especially good. Excellent attentive and freindly service in a bright and busy, centre of town cafe, great for people watching on the busy part of the high street. Good value for money and a great sixties soundtrack too. Well worth a visit.

Lovely roast beef meal we had today (prob one of the best I’ve ever had!) & the staff were so friendly and helpful. Cosy & quirky restaurant/bar we will be back! X

Last minute change of plans before heading to the mainland. Great discovery after heading over the floating bridge and to the High Street. Was just going to stop for coffee, stayed for late breakfast. Great theming with nice little details, tasty breakfast and very helpful staff.

Fantastic night out and loved the cocktails. Absolutely love the decor and styling of bar. Was a mad busy night as it was the end of Cowes week but the owner still took the time to chat and be friendly. Will definately be regulars here. Good luck with this new bar , im sure it's going to be a roaring success!

Came here with my parents for mother's Day, food was delicious and looked lovely - had tapas to start and the Sunday special roast, which is definitely the best roast I've had in ages! My dad had deep fried ice-cream for dessert which was something I've not seen anywhere before 🍧

My parents and I loved the decor and music, and a very welcoming and friendly atmosphere and fantastic service. Brilliant selection of cocktails and drinks on the menu 🍸 definitely be coming back here with them again, they loved it! 😃

What a great looking bar ! We arrived on the IOW the Sunday marking the end of Cowes week. A lot of the bars and restaurants had signs up saying closed or closed for a few days to recover from a busy week. The bar had a guy playing the guitar and singing which was lovely and along with the look of people's cocktails we went in. We was greeted by friendly faces of the staff and customers. Sadly due to us arriving late we was unable to have food from the menu but they did a selection of tapas which were very tasty. I tried a few cocktails which were delicious and looked fab ! We would definitely go back and would recommend to go there. From reading the other reviews of the few unhappy customers I would say this is a new bar and will have some minor teething problems but I'm sure they will take on board constructive criticism and turn it in to a positive. The staff all had a smile on there faces and that's even after a manic busy week, we wish you every success with your new venture.

We went here last night, the table was booked for 8pm. After being seated we requested some table water which arrived half hour later. Between this half hour we had ordered cocktails and our dinner. The cocktails turned up and they looked great, slight criticism is that a martini glass should be chilled first to make sure the drink is nice a cold, drinks in those glasses aren’t served with ice, so it does help it stay cool. Staff were friendly and smiley.

I had ordered the chicken strips off the tapas menu with some dirty fries. I didn’t want a full meal just something to pick at. I was very disappointed in the lack of flavour in the chicken strips. It was cooked In a basic oil, which after taking the chicken out the bottom of the dish it was swimming with oil. Yuk! And the dirty fries were skinny fries, not a problem for me, although they were so over cooked that when I put my folk in they broke in half, leaving me to have to scoop the fries up. I’m not sure if there is a set idea of dirty fries? But I was expecting fries with a hot cheese sauce, crispy bacon and maybe some kind of chilli con carne. What I got was over cooked fries which were cold, and made colder by the cold cheese sauce, 5 tiny bits is crispy bacon and a sprinkle of parsley. Cold food .

The chicken burger my friend had looked nice, and the steak looked good. But they even said they wouldn’t be rushing back. Shame cause it’s such a quirky place, that the food could really pull in the custom. Hopefully some little changes can make all the difference to better reviews. I will be back for cocktails but will not be recommending food to friends.

Our last night in the IOW and was a bit of a let down sadly the ultra freidly waitresses were let down by the kitchen department, my wife's meal eventually turned up as the rest of us had almost finished ours only to be sent back as it wasn't cooked + £5.00 for a bottle of ale ??? ,, their idea of compensation was not to charge us for the taco chicken she was offered as an alternative , im guessing this is a new business and just finding there feet

User

I'm not going to explain why this Birthday celebration evening was ruined by you , because the friends we came with wrote a complaint on here and you removed it, looks like you only leave the good comments and remove everything you don't like, myself and anybody else I talk to will definitely not be coming here!
