About The Anchor

Coastal Inns & Taverns Ltd.

The Anchor Description

The Anchor is situated at the very heart of the Cowes Yachting scene. Opposite the Cowes Yacht Haven and only a short walk from the Red Jet terminal it is the ideal place to relax after a hard day on the waves. The Anchor offers you good food, good ale and a warm welcome throughout the year.

In 1704 the Debourne Estate in Cowes leased the land called St Mary's mead on which the Anchor now stands, for 99 years to one Ladowyke Brandenburg, a victualler. Called the 'House of the Three Trumpeters' it became the principle coaching inn of Cowes. The name changed to the 'Anchor Inn' in the 1820's. Traditional Ales and hearty fare make the Anchor a fine place to eat.

Open all year round and offering a choice of daily specials from the blackboard, the Anchor is always full of atmosphere. Summertime eat outside in the stable yard; Winter draw in by the blazing fire and wile away a few hours.

We just happened to be passing and decided to give the Anchor a go... and we were really pleased we did.

All the staff were really friendly and happy to help and all the food (We ordered a selection from salad to curry to fish and chips) was excellent... really enjoyed by all.... and then there is dessert...very nice.

All in all a very nice place with a nice atmosphere.... Oh and a mention for the clean and tidy toilets... this is always something that sets a tone for me.

Well done guys, keep up the good work.

User

Very happy went to the Isle of Wight for the day and stumbled on this lovely pub.

Will definitely be going back next time we our there.

User

User

User

There are no words - it's The Anchor - staff, service, quality, friendly, welcoming... I can't recommend the place enough!

User

The Anchor serve the best roast and beers in Cowes bar none and deserve their accolades! A credit and example to all local businesses that strive for success through reinvention but at the same time keep hold of that majestic charm which draws you back with every visit! The Anchor isn't about a popularity contest or about current trends, it does what it does best and that is all in the welcome it gives every customer, whether new or regular, old or young. I am proud to call it my 'local' and proud to say the staff are my friends! The Anchor is more than a pub, it's a heritage and way of life. The Anchor is Cowes and without it the town would die.

User

So here I am in the Isle of Wight ready to start my Super Yacht deck crew course. Arrived in yesterday and stayed the night in The Anchor Bar. Enjoyed the rest after my flight to Southampton✈️ and ferry to Cowes, would highly recommend it to anyone. Great bar, great beer and friendly staff. Will definitely come back while I'm here for a pint or two ☀️

User

Really looking forward to coming to this great pub in August for cowes week. I worked here during cowes week a few years ago & had the best time ever!! Great atmosphere with fantastic food. Best pub in cowes with great staff!!

User

Really friendly and welcoming staff even after dropping a pint of lemonade all over the floor. Food was amazing. Definitely recommend the chilli nachos.

User

Outstanding service and meals delivered within 10 minutes of ordering and there were 19 of us . Celebrated my daughters 18th , staff amazing , service so quick and very professional . We booked late on Friday 1st of may(bank holiday) but this was no problem . Couldn't fault the food it was delicious . Thanks for a wonderful experience .

User

I do close up Magic at The Anchor and both the staff and the customers are a pleasure to be with. The staff are polite, professional and very welcoming and the customers as a result are very happy! Great food and drink too! Highly recommended!

User

Great pub with friendly staff, good music and banging food. Has some sort of wimbledon style rain cover in the beer garden that made me feel safe like i was in a plastic cocoon. Recommended for all including dogs. Not sure about kids after hours but then again i was a pub kid. Give them a lemonade and a packet of pretzels and youre away.

User

Came here with friends for food over Cowes week. Had a great time! Food was very good and not over priced. My starter was very big :) drinks were also cheaper than any of the other places we visited that night.

The bar staff are really friendly and go out of their way to accommodate you. You can see they really enjoy their job and take it seriously.

The live music was also great and you can see from their line up of events that they really try hard to keep it currant with lots of events on. Keep up the good job!

User

A great Sunday afternoon as usual listening to the music . My friends and I usually try to keep the 2nd Sunday in the month free to go there .

User

A Superb meal was had by a ' weary 4 ' after a long day sight seeing @ the Needles etc . . . . Over by ' ferry ' not sailing this time the ' scampi ' was the ' favourite . . . A slight ' criticism ' was when we ' just landed ' + desperate for the ' ladies ' got ' strange looks ' from bar staff what they don't realise is the ' higher % ' that do this WILL end up ' spending serious money ' ! ! ! ! But we will DEF be returning 1day

User

We were at the anchor for dinner last night for a close friend's hen do. I being a difficult vegetarian ordered a vegetable burger and instead got a beef burger, due to miscommunication. The manager very kindly got this rectified and I was fully refunded, thank you very much to the manager.

User

We booked 2 rooms very pleasant . hot water tap didnt work on our sink .no breakfast available. We came back had sunday lunch was good. food reasonably priced nice pub great live music both saturday and sunday.

Staff great especially Ben very helpful and funny

User

Great pub for live bands and music. Cowes meeting place for the lively & lovely Island crowd in the winter. Before the Maritime lovies ship in. Drinks top price, but I suppose the bands have to be funded.

Never noticed and real hassle or problems. They have mature sensible security staff on the doors at weekends.

User

Food was ok although they didn't listen to my request re no pickle in the burger. Also told tomato pickle came on the side and it was in the sandwich and to top it all charged over £8 for a pint of 1664
