What a brilliant atmospheric venue. Got there early for the Antz Avenue duo to be greeted by the landlord and given an impromptu tour as it was my first visit. The ambiance he has created within this shrine to rhythm and blues music is wonderful with the walls bedecked with legends of music too many to mention but including my hero Eric Clapton. Thank you Boddy!
Tucked away in this little enclave of South West London is The Cavern, affectionately known as 'The Cave' to its loyal patrons.
The place plays host to some of the finest live music there is with a wide variety of artists supported by mine host Noel Nevin. Many bands return again and again they are so popular and clearly lovevto play in the electric atmosphere the place generates. A brilliant way to spend an evening or Sunday afternoon.
Friendly efficient staff, friendly customers, superb musicians all makes for a perfect combination.
Top class venue. Great vibe. Highly recommended.
This place is special - a wonderful live music venue in a climate of closure and cutbacks - a big hearted landlord who keeps music live by paying great musicians to perform here - a gem
This music sanctuary is fabulous. Long may it last. So many pubs that were the breeding ground for bands have become gastropubs, flats or supermarkets. Please help this place survive increasing financial pressures by buying a few drinks and donating to the musicians when the jug goes around.
Saw Purple Haze here last Friday and enjoyed the gig. The venue is great although this being the Friday before the Bank Holiday weekend it was quite quiet. This was our first visit to this venue but we will definitely be back. Especially as I have just seen that Ian Hunt and Papa George were here a week or so ago, gutted I didn't know about that............
.
Real live bands! Very few pubs in this area have proper live bands these days. The Cavern is a notable exception. Tonight’s offering was a 9-piece band including a brass section (The Old Avengers) who were amazing. Good beer and a nice atmosphere too.
It's what we need all over the bleeding place. Support live music and hats off to the blokes doing their best, and babes (ahem), to keep it going. Fuck this corporate business ✌🏻
I went to the Jam Pact Open Mic for my first time and had the most enjoyable experience playing alongside some top class muscians. The pub had a wonderfull quirky atmosphere, lovely bar staff and a fun crowd of punters which made me feel most welcome.....not forgetting a great selection of beverages too!
This is an awsome music venue with something special I will be returning soon despite the distance.
I have visited three times. Have found it to be unusually friendly place. Moreover dogs are welcomed and catered for.
On a typical 2 to 3 hour visit I would probably only buy two drinks. No one has pressurised me to buy drinks. Moreover despite not being a regular I have been made to feel much more welcome than most pubs. When I left last time I was surprised to receive a goodnight!
That said I would consider it bad manners to not pay my way. You can brew beer at home much cheaper but that doesn't pay for the roof over your head or the comfortable surroundings. You certainly don't get live music.
It is a specialist pub. It doesn't just have live music occasionally....it's almost every day.
Putting a fiver in the hat seems more than fair if the music is good.
Had an amazing night 1 st time at the cavern and it won’t be my last great atmosphere fabulous music very friendly staff can’t wait to return, my only small complaint was no diet coke on draft only small bottles which made my jack and coke a bit on the expensive side xx
Great music great friendly place and atmosphere Sunday afternoon with Frankies band is just the best! 👍🏻
Great bands always and first class hospitality in a fantastic venue, Noel knows how to put on a show!
Great atmosphere music n beer oh n Tayto crisps
For a musician like myself...this is the best place around. We are looked after, respected ( that description includes being paid properly ) , are supplied with a superb p.a. and are treated to drinks. As a punter and a woman , you can go there on your own and enjoy top class acts in a friendly atmosphere. Keep up the good work Noel, Gary, Sue and all. X Also...a big thanks to a discerning music audience who ALWAYS put money in the jug .
Brilliant night, this is a fantastic pub with exceptionally good live music. Thank you for your hospitality came up from Cornwall to see Cream/Hendrex tribute band and wasn't disappointed .
Always a wonderful welcome ~ really friendly regulars and superb gigs
A great live music venue....brilliant atmosphere
First time for me at The Cavern Freehouse on Wednesday 14th and what a great experience. Friendly staff and management and even a friendly dog. I was there for a Hollie Rogers gig (she was superb) and the audience was respectful and enthusiastic. As a photographer, the lighting was a bit of a challenge, but I still got some good shots and the sound was spot on. Top night.
