The De La Warr Pavilion Description

We are a vibrant, versatile space in which we aim to cultivate talent, inspire creativity and provide opportunities for interactions between artists and audiences. We provide integrated cultural programmes that are accessible and relevant to the world in which we live.

We encourage exploration, collaboration and innovation by providing a venue where artists from different disciplines and audiences can meet, engage and share their thinking and ideas. Offering free access to exhibitions all year round, plus live performances, a dynamic learning and participation programme, indoor and outdoor events, and bespoke venue hire, we aim to live up to the name given to us by our audiences when we first opened – the People’s Pavilion.

We believe that by putting artists and audiences at the heart of what we do, we can produce innovative and integrated cultural programmes that are accessible and relevant to today. We aim to create opportunities, drive aspirations and reflect the thinking and ideas of the world in which we live.

We are pleased to announce that David Keenan will support Hothouse Flowers at #dlwp on Saturday 17 November.
Tickets www.dlwp.com/event/hothouse-flowers/
David Keenan is an Irish songwriter, a young Artist who uses his lyrics to paint pictures with words on canvases of silence, curating a body of work which is steeped in the poetic tradition of old but delivered in such a way that is entirely his own.
... Creating an inner world through narrative songwriting while leaving the door slightly ajar for us to enter and act out scenes, His live shows have been described as visceral, spiritual and communal events where Keenan moves between a one man and his guitar monologue to fronting a band whose sound only acts as a carrier for the songs further solidifying their intent. Advocating expression through all forms, dressed in the clothes of an out of work revolutionary his debut album is to be let loosed in 2018.
"Not just another young lad with an acoustic guitar, Keenan is the sound of Tim Buckley and Brendan Behan arguing over a few jars, while Kavanagh deals Dylan a suspicious hand of cards, and Anthony Cronin and Jack Kerouac furiously try to scribble it all down". Pat Carty Hotpress Magazine

We enjoyed looking around this iconic building from the thirties, with its spacious interior and lovely outside balconies which you could take tea on or just laze in the complimentary deckchairs. The art exhibition was unique, very fascinating, and the shop was well stocked with quality items. We had an afternoon tea to share, what a treat! The sandwiches and pastries were delicious with fresh strawberries and raspberries as a garnish, and a lovely dish of clotted cream and strawberry jam for the freshly made scone! Superb visit. ☺️ thank you.

Second time in two or so months that we have been to this amazing venue. Acoustics are very good plus having air conditioning is a great plus.

We have booked to see 10cc in October and plan to look at the programme for next year.

The high for me was to see Rufus Wainwright here.

User

Really like this venue. Saw the Zombies here and the acoustics are brilliant, plenty of legroom and good view of stage even from the back. Lovely setting by the sea and enjoyed a drink on the balcony during the interval.

User

One of the most iconic buildings on the south east coast and a truly superb event and art venue. The DLWP even hosted our wedding and we could not fault them one bit, the service and management here is brilliant and we feel we have made a number of friends through our wedding planning process. Without a doubt we would recommend the DLWP for any event, private function or wedding that you maybe attending or planning. We certainly look forward to visiting often and saying hello to you all. Best wishes Mr & Mrs Gray x

My favourite building in Bexhill. Absolutely love it, beach side is best. Always take a pic when I’m down. Had lunch in the cafe yesterday, food is great.

Not a local so never been to any shows/concerts.

User

Lovely building with great views of the sea. Nice menu for breakfast, brunch and lunch.

User

Great venue. My wife is In a wheel chair and found the access to be excellent and the staff very attentive. Travelled over from Cyprus to see The Damned on 14th Feb..we thought that my wife wouldn't be able to see the band but they have a seating area available for less able people. An all round good experience.

User

Went to see Susanne Vega last night, she was fantastic as were our seats, we had a good cuppa beforehand. The only complaint is the lack of toilets, it was packed out and the queue for both sets of ladies was madness, to ensure I didn't miss the second half I had to use the gents, that is not acceptable for anyone but lots of ladies had to result to this to ensure they didn't miss the second half. Either allow people to leave at half time to use near by pubs or get more toilets.

User

It is a small venue but very acoustic. Saw Beth Hart on saturday and it was fab. As with all venues more ladies toilets wouldn’t go amiss but it’s a charming place with lovely views of the sea from the balcony.

User

I first visited here in 2011, impressed by an Andy Warhol exhibition, in fact it inspired me to start drawing again more seriously , having had easel given to me which hadn't seen much action. Great venue, no seating at last night's show " just standing" recreating a sense of a" concert" and giving the audience space to mingle during the show. I love the building, good cafe, and shop. Friendly helpful and professional staff. I sat in the cafe drew, watching the sea and people. Wonderful way to spend time, and not intimidating if you are in your own.

User

A great venue for music an art. Yesterday’s Rufus Wainwright concert was excellent.

User

Why is it that we seem to want to queue for ages for overpriced beverages?! Staffing at the various bars was very low and the prices were high - not a good mix at all.

Sound quality at the Fleet Foxes gig was abysmal too - the bass frequencies resonated throughout the hall, not only during the main set but even more during the support.

Obviously the sound is not a DLW issue but it did no favours to the ambience or the gig experience

User

I adore the DLWP,BUT the 'bar' situation is appalling,it has been like this for years, and we had hoped that the ' trestle table shenanigans was a temporary thing, but sadly, years later,it's exactly the same. EXACTLY. I would have given five stars if not for this situation. Can it really be that difficult to have an acceptable way to buy drinks, alcoholic or otherwise?

User

Dated venue no bar to speak of with a very poor joice of drinks it a bit like a church hall with seats

User

The music and sound quality was great. Unfortunately we were sat upstairs in the balcony which is only suitable if you are 5ft 2. As the seats are in line you also can’t see the stage unless you lean to the side. I definitely won’t book these seats again.

User

The De La Warr should be ashamed of the services they provided for the Sam Calver Christmas event. The bar queues were horrendous. We missed the Chandeliers because of the length of the queues for a drink. When we did eventually get a drink the prices were extortinate. The coat cloakroom was closed by 7.30 because apparently it was full. There were hardly any coats in there and the area was huge? At £15 a ticket it was appalling. I will not be attending any future events. The management should be held accountable for the lack of staffing knowing how many tickets had been sold.

User

Looking forward to a great night out but massively let down by sheer incompetence. Having to queue for an hour for a drink whilst the duty manger just looked on doing nothing to help the poor guys and gals behind the bar is not acceptable. I left before Sam Calver came on and did not see either The Chandliers or The Do Theys do to the issues at the bar. I would expect a full refund of my tickets and at least someone to contact me to discuss the problems but don’t expect that will happen (left my mobile number with the Duty manager) let’s see De la Warr. Such a shame to spoil what should have been a great start to the Christmas break.

User

I telephoned Saturday afternoon to ask if there was a cloakroom to put our coats in. The girl on the phone checked with someone else and told me that there was & it would cost £1. We arrived at 7.45 to put our coats in the cloakroom to be told that it was full. The girl wasn't interested when I complained, just told me to it was out of her hands. The whole point of me phoning beforehand was so that we weren't stuck with our coats all evening as it was a standing event. We could have left them at home. Also the queues for the bars were ridiculous and we missed out on some of the music because we were queuing for so long. You knew you had sold over 1000 tickets, yet you only had a couple of coatrails contain about 50 coats, & three bars with very little staff. This was totally unacceptable & am hearing that this is a regular occurrence there. We were also stopped from bringing cans into the auditorium, but saw plenty of other people with cans in there later in the evening. It was my first time of visiting & will probably be my last. You need to get your act together otherwise more people will stop going.

User

Absolutely shocking. Spent over 90 mins queing for a drink and No where to hang coats. The staff told me they were understaffed (poor excuse as they knew how many tickets they had sold) . I was told to change my tickets from standing to sitting and I have over half-hour of problems sorting this out and arguing with the box office staff as they said they were not under any circumstances allowed to do it. So i went back upstairs to see other standing ticket holders let in and told to start filling from the back.

The band's were amazing and I just love sam. I hope he gets a bigger BETTER venue next year as like everyone's else's comments the place was a joke.
