The Dev

About The Dev

Camden Town's oldest and most famous metal, punk and rock n' roll pub.

The Dev Description

The Devonshire Arms is Camden Town's devoted home to the musical underground. It has a rich-though volatile-history, and today charges on stronger than ever. Though having had many faces, and having changed countless hands, The Dev has persevered through it all to remain the undeniable and immovable anchor of Camden's roots.

Byker Grave Bookings and The Dev present:
✞ Haar (Edinburgh) Haar is a progressive Black Metal band from Edinburgh. In the first decade of their existence, they have produced two EPs, one full-length album and one split with Ur Draugr.
... With little regard for black metal orthodoxy, each release pushes their signature exploratory and innovative signature sound further. Angular riffing, oppressive discordance and shifting rhythmic patterns all feature heavily and with mind-bending effect.
With a new lineup now solidified, Haar is reinvigorated and crafting new material with a greater degree of intricacy and complexity than what had previously been demonstrated...
Bandcamp: https://haar.bandcamp.com/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/haarsounds/ Sounds Like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UjjpYvHmS 44 + ✞ Plague Rider (Newcastle) Chaotic technical death metal with intricate rhythms and frantic changes promoting their latest release - RHIZOME
The professor has gathered the performers and articulated their expressions. The unformed and unstable matters have coalesced and stratified. The rhizome is presented as it dissolves.
Dismantling traditional tropes and reassembling them over a warped scaffold of noise and experimentation, death metal mavericks Plague Rider continue to push at the boundaries of their genre with Rhizome.
Relentless sinewy riffs interlace with frenetic drum work, whilst layers of noise and varied inhuman vocal delivery merge into a barely contained whole. A challenging listen which is as vicious as it is expansive, Rhizome represents the shifting neural network of a continuously evolving sonic entity.
Panic is creation.
To Be released on the 10th September by Panurus Productions (Cassette) and Inverted Grim-Mill Recordings (CD)

Went in for the first time Friday afternoon prior to heading to Koko for a gig..... fuck me what a place! Absolutely brilliant. Probably the best headbangers joint in London and dare I say it even better than the Crobar and the Black heart! Shall definitely be back soon. Now get your online shop up and running so I can order a shirt! And make a patch as well while your at it!

This rock bar is great for a night out where you can allow your inhibitions to lift and not care what others are thinking of you. It is a great meeting place to warm up for any local gigs and the music there is of a high standard also. It has surpassed The Intrepid Fox as the premier rock venue in London. Forget the rest the Dev is the best.

User

The people is truly r'n'r here and outgoing, it's a specifically metal bar but any outfit is well accepted. All live sets are free but you see just very cool emerging bands playing original songs and well representative of a truly underground scene. If you love alt culture The Dev's a must go. \m/

User

The Dev is the place to go if you're a genuine Metal fan. Great staff, never been mistreated, never been disrespected. The locals are awesome and friendly. Always a good vibe. It's what I think about at the end of a long shift.

User

Outstanding pub, 1st time playing a gig in london and received a cracking warm welcome from the management and staff! Will definitely return!

User

My favourite pub and that's saying something cos I love pubs. Professional fun and passionate staff and management, great djs and drink selection, free live music, and relaxed atmosphere. Just go there, it's cool.

User

Just moved to London and I can happily say it's the best pub I have been too, definitely going to be my local!!!!

User

It’s hard not to be impressed by the direction The Dev has gone, had time to spend time with Chris Parker(the Guv’nor)today who has rose through the ranks to be top dog at The Dev and has a love of the place, rock music and cares about his customers, there has always been a kiss of death for this job but his savvy and the child like looks see’s him as a "maybe"

long term stayer..at least I hope so..and he's a thoroughly nice geezer to boot, So if you have some time to waste in the Camden area , getcha selves down to The Dev, you won't be disappointed by the staff who scythe their way through beer guzzlers quickly so you won't wait long to get served, or crowd and say "Hi" to Sara who pushes the live bands your way and getcha ya listening to the good sh*t!!.

User

Great pub and live music venue for rock/metal/industrial. Been coming here for many, many years. The manager/main bar man is very friendly and the music and decor is very good, band posters everywhere. Camden is by far the best area of London if you like all things 'alternative'. Highly recommend

User

Great metal pub. Good atmosphere and decent beer too. Second time playing there. Will be back.

User

Great atmosphere, great music, great people. My second home for sure!

User

For someone that’s not into metal a really welcoming bar and is definitely worth a visit

User

First time in the Dev for Cj behind the bar to Mick on the door top dj lets see what happens the next time I'm down

User

Felt right at home there, lovely atmosphere, great music, decent drinks.

User

Fantastic heavy metal pub, great staff and marvellous concert, you can't find a pub better than this

User

Extremely genuine metal bar, actually very friendly now not like in the old days and a brand new PA system makes the regular (free!) gigs worth attending, plus some ace DJs ;)

User

Went over from ireland for desertfest. Great pub great staff great music. Big shout out to CJ. Will be back next year. Can't wait.

User

I love this pub, the feel is so dark and comfy, barstaff are cool, beers taste like they are supposed to, and it's literally minutes from Camden tube station. Only reason I'm not giving it a 5 is because the ladies' toilets are shocking. I went in a couple of years ago and the hand drier was just mechanism and duck tape - that's got a front on it now, but one of three toilets doors is duck taped closed, and there was no seat in the one I used. Not a biggie for me (I'm from Northampton where toilets are always a fucking lottery) but if anyone is a bit squeamish or particular about bathrooms, you're not going to enjoy yourself.

User

Won't be going back anytime soon used to be great to go to before a gig or just whilst having a mooch around Camden. The barman is both rude and full of arrogance both me and my friend walked out after our first pint just before xmas when we went up to see New Model Army.14.12.17.

The place just no longer has the same vibe as it did 10 years ago there was only 6 people in there on a Friday evening which is really weird for Dev.The other bars in Camden were heaving and now I know why.

Please send your barman on a customer service course because he has a very shitty attitude towards new/old paying customers before you lose anymore customers!! Cheers.
