RHS CHELSEA FLOWER SHOW - We are thrilled that 3 of ou graduates obtained medals. Manoj Malde's Fresh garden for Inland Homes: Beneath a Mexican Sky collected a Silver-Gilt. Ruth Willmott's design for Breast Cancer Now Garden: Through the Microscope won Silver-Gilt and the People's choice award for Best Fresh Garden. Fiona Cadwallader won Silver for The Poetry Lover's Garden in the Artisan category.
All three gardens were constructed to a particularly high standard and the p...lanting was exemplary.
In addition, Kate Gould who won Best Fresh Garden and a Gold for City Living, will present the diplomas to our One Year Good Gardening students graduating in July.
I was judging in both the Fresh & the Artisan categories at this year's show. In addition I was judging Belgravia in Bloom which sees local businesses, residents, retailers and restaurants getting involved with floral displays. This year's exhibitors had risen to a very high standard.

Signature gladioli ‘Atom’ has a famous friend in England... and we introduced them! says Old Bulbs Gazette. Garden designer Rosemary Alexander is the founder of The English Gardening School, author of a half-dozen books, and winner of the RHS Veitch Memorial Medal. We met years ago when we lectured for a series of Horticulture magazine seminars. Although OHG usually ships to US addresses only, when Rosemary asked if she could order a few of the bulbs I’d shown in my slides,... I happily agreed. ‘Atom’ was one of the first she ordered, and she liked it so much that – ten years later – she recommends it in Gardens Illustrated’s February cover article, “Rosemary Alexander’s 100 Great Plants for an English Country Garden.” Woo-hoo! “Long overlooked as an attractive garden plant,” she writes, “smaller gladioli are now back in fashion.” Another half-dozen heirlooms we offer also made it into Rosemary’s top 100 plants: ‘Bishop of Llandaff’, dahlia, ‘S. Arnott’ snowdrop (“quickly forming very handsome clumps”), ‘Thalia’ daffodil (“longevity and vigor make this a popular choice for naturalizing”), regal lily (“I plant the bulbs in plastic pots and sink these in their final position in early summer as a glamorous, scented treat”), winter aconite, and sternbergia. Spring-planted ‘Atom’ and ‘Bishop of Llandaff’ are going fast, but if you order them now you can enjoy their simple, bright blooms this summer – just like Rosemary does. www.oldhousegardens.com Old House Gardens - America’s expert source for heirloom flower bulbs ...

The Chelsea Flower Show is always a highlight of the gardening year. This year 3 of our past graduates had gardens at the Show - Main show gardens. Cleve West - Gold for his M&G 2016 garden. Jo Thompson - Gold for her Chelsea Barracks garden. Artisan gardens. Freddie Whyte - Silver for his Suffolk Retreat Nick Bailey, sadly not one of our graduates but the head gardener at the Chelsea Physic Garden for his Winton Beauty of Mathematics garden. Most of his helpers in buil...ding the garden were our graduates. Other graduates helped on many of the gardens and on the stands on the Pavilion. As usual, our graduates Joe Swift and Rachel de Thame were presenting for the BBC. Well done to them al

Have you designed something spectatcular? Read on for more details from a Media Company...
Hi there,
I hope you don’t mind me contacting you. I am part of the casting team on a brand new BBC2 series called Britain’s Most Spectacular Backyard Builds.
... The programme is a celebration of Britain’s most passionate inventors, makers, engineers, mechanics and general all round tinkerers who make and create inventions in their home garages, sheds, workshops and living rooms.
We’re looking to showcase some of the best home creators out there, so we’re looking for the inventors and innovators in the UK who have BIG ambitious ideas, and who would love the opportunity to create something spectacular for their home or garden as part of our programme.
I thought it would be a good idea to get in touch with gardeners as you may well know the kind of inventor we are looking for (perhaps it is you!). I wondered whether you would be able to circulate our information to anybody who you believe may be interested in this opportunity. Most, if not all, of home inventors have regular full time work and use their spare time to invent and create, so we want to tap into that unearthed talent that some of your staff, members, friends or family might have.
Only recently, Colin Furze built an underground bunker in his back garden! These are the unique, the unconventional and the unusual inventions that we’d like to find! Do you know somebody who would love the opportunity to build their own backyard build? With a budget, we will be giving three lucky people the chance to create something spectacular.
A garden rollercoaster, a catapult, a homemade helicopter! Whatever the build, big or small, in this exciting new series we want to showcase a variety of ambitious, innovative and imaginative builds, from the experimental to the incredible!
Our casting period is only open for one month so we’re keen to speak to anybody who would like to be involved ASAP.
For those who are interested, they can email the team on makers@rdftelevision.com or visit the BBC website to download an application form http://www.bbc.co.uk/…/tak…/most_spec tacular_backyard_builds
Many thanks for your time, Ellie
