This week we say goodbye to Chris, our manager for the last two and a half years! We appreciate all the hard work he did.
But we welcome Stephanie! Our new holding manager. Our Taste of Christmas event will be the perfect time to say hello (as well as try our festive menu)
What a fab little find this pub was ... sitting outside very peaceful with the most perfect fish & chips ever ... we will be back to try the roast as it looked lovely
This evening was our first visit here. Our friends made the booking and when we walked in we received a very warm welcome and the waitress Sarah greeted our friend by name. She was very attentive and helpful. Drinks came immediately and our order was taken quickly. We didnāt have to wait long for our food which was well presented and delicious! We had a really enjoyable evening and look forward to returning.
We had a table of 9 adults and 2 small kids. When we arrived the table wasn't set up correctly as they expected 3 adults to squash onto 1 side of a table for 4. This was quickly rectified by adding another table onto the end.... Which was right in front of the fireplace ļæ½ maybe a bit more seat planning was needed. The seasoned veg for the roasts just consist of green cabbage and carrots, no peas, broccoli or green beans which was a bit of a let down and the double tia Maria looked barely like a single. HOWEVER our server James was great and dealt with everything, very friendly. My lamb shank fell off the bone and was lovely and no one else had anything bad to say about their food. It helped that we had a voucher for 33% off, which compensated for all the little niggly bits. Would deffinetly come back again.
Slightly worried reading the reviews but we really liked it . Really friendly staff , nice decor and our food was lovely .A very pleasant Monday lunch .
We had the sharing sticky platter and it was awful the squid was so tough thick and chunky the kofta was something you could buy out of Iceland didnāt have equal amounts to share. Told waitress and she just shrugged her shoulders. On a positive the lady behind the bar was nice but the food was not up to scratch
Steak was nice but our 3 year olds lasagne was cold in the middle, staff were lazy left plates and empty glasses on table for 45 minutes after we had finished, costly meal and pretty dissapointing. Won't be eating there again
Lifeās to short to eat at places like this.
No halloumi
No sea bass
No venison
No orange juice
If you want fish and chips as a light evening meal you get told āWe only serve small fish and chips at lunchtimeā
1 waiter, 1 barman, 4 tables in use and a 3 deep queue at the bar.
Food was ok though once Iād removed the skin that had formed on top of the risotto where Iām guessing it had been sitting on the side too long.
Iād rather go to KFC than go back there.
Had a table for 4 adults. Ordered sharing starter for 4 only 3 items. Mix up with 2 pie mains. Not enough cutlery or small plates. Needed to get up and ask at bar for complements. Worst experience, shame because it used to be nice. Will not go again.
Gotta say, over the last ten years was quite happy with the meals at the Fox And Raven but the one time last year when the place was dead, me and two lady friends had the worst experience ever, service was very poor, bad attitude from the staff, food was very late, main meals were delivered before starters plates were taken away, appalling service, won't eat there again!
i can safely say I will never come here for food again absolutely terrible and the worst meal Iāve had out in a long long time. Boyfriend ordered a wagu burger and when it arrived it resembled nothing more than a hockey puck. Charcoaled overcooked and the smallest size burger ever! Took back to the bar and all we got was oh so do u want another one Iāll make sure the chef squashes it down more.....how about he just cooks the bloody thing as itās supposed to be. By the time they re cooked one My steak and ale pie was already eaten and it could of been lovely if it wasnāt so dry the small pot of super thick gloopy gravy on the side didnāt do much at all. Considering itās not a run of the mill cheap pub I expected so much more for the price they charge!
TOTAL INSULT! I keep giving the Fox & Raven āanother chanceā, but they continue to get it seriously wrong. Today I went in for lunch with my daughter. Ordered two drinks, mine being a pint. The pint was at least 4cms short (it was a pint glass, no line). I politely asked for it to be topped up, but was refused (Chris the General Manager was āservingā me). I asked if he considered it to be a full pint and he said that they āserve with a headā and basically tough āyou get what your givenā. After a discussion, he finally put a nanosecond squirt in the glass which was more of an insult. The smart arse attitude of the General manager was appalling. Never again pal, my custom is going to a decent pub!
Shame as I like this place but..... I went yesterday and had the worst meal.
First my meal came out and my burger was cooked so it more resembled a lump of charcoal rather than a burger, my skin on chips had no skins, the bacon I paid extra for was no where to be seen.
I went up to return my food at the counter and was asked why I wanted to return it. I explained I like my steak and burgers cooked medium rare to which their response was that my burger was made with cheap cuts of meat and "had" to be cooked well done which is strange as the menu says it's an 'Angus Aberdeen Burger' and made with the finest cuts of meat, I'm not sure how you can put on the menu you use fine cuts of meat but then tell customers they've used cheap cuts.
I asked for my money back which was begrudgingly returned after I had to explain my reasons why I wanted my money back 3 times to different people but they still charged me best part of Ā£6 for 2 cokes.
I ended up at my local burger van, paid a damn sight less and it was bloody lovely.....
More than disappointed.
I've been here for drinks many times. Went with my family for a Sunday roast todag. I have coeliac disease so asked if they had a gluten free menu or options. They gave me an allergy book, which was useless and didn't make sense. It said the Sunday roast with yorkshires were fine to eat (told otherwise at bar) and the plain fish had gluten in.
I went to the bar to ask if I could speak to the chef or manager. The member of staff went and came back and said they couldnt advice anything. So had to watch the rest of my family eat their dinner, with not even a bit of plain meat to keep me going.
Will not be going back again. The staff were unhelpful and if anything rude.
Me and my wife have been going here for about 10 years now and have to say with a heavy heart we will never be going back again. After being over charged by about Ā£8 when we pointed this out we was told that as we had already paid they could not do anything. After a chat with a manager would call us. Nothing from them so they will no longer get any of my business.
It started with a two hour wait for our starters, continued with seeing a member of the waiting staff leaving the toilet without washing her hands and ended with a rancid piece of sea bass that might have been cooked last Wednesday....
How pub food can be this bad is beyond me. We arrived for our table at 7.30, by 9pm the starters hadnāt arrived and our first drink had been gone for some time.
When the starters did arrive it was hard to see what had taken so long. The pate was wafer thin slices along with similarly thin slices of stale bread. The āprawn and lobster cocktailā consisted of watery prawns and no lobster.
Whilst two of our party were still finishing their starters, two sea bass arrived and when I said we still had people finishing their starters I was looked at like I was the crazy one! The waiter remained with two sea bass in hand staring blankly at me.
More main courses arrived with the starter plates still on the table which seemed to confuse the waiting staff even more until I suggested taking the starter plates away.
The sea bass was overcooked so I left the majority of it. The plates were left on the table for so long that no one asked if the meal was okay.
We asked for the bill and didnāt order dessert as we all fancied getting home before midnight.
We did mention to the staff that the service was slow and the starters were small so these were taken off the bill.
Although that is some gesture towards how bad this evening was, it doesnāt change my opinion of how awful the majority of the experience was. Wouldnāt return.
If there is half a star, I will give it to you. The Aberdeen Angus burger was tasteless and everything that served in the plate was cold. My partner's beef and mushroom pie was the same, so bland! No seasoning whatsover?!?
Apart from poor quality of food, we have to "self-service", putting the plates and dishes, glasses from the previous diners aside to the other table, picked up the food that dropped from the plates by previous diner. Nobody came to clean the table so I have to ask the waiter. He didn't do it and put the napkins and cutlery on the dirty and greasy surface. That's really put me off completely.
We left the food more than half there, paid and left. Enough!
Horrendous. An hour for our starters then they were not cleared or thirty minutes. We l st after asking for or money back. Chefs an
Had a meal at lunchtime with my daughter . Waited ten minutes at the bar to be told waiter service waited another ten minutes for waitress to be told order at the bar .
Ordered ham egg triple fried chips .
Chips all soft . Then they didnāt have any brown sauce .
Over heard the next table ask for salad dressing also didnāt have any .
Long wait for drinks .
Pretty poor experience wonāt be back . This is the second time not had a good lunch here .
Dreadful service and unprofessional staff. My friend asked for a seafood risotto which when it arrived after a 40 minute wait after our starter it looked like pudding rice. I think we counted just one prawn in the whole dish. After we complained my friend did ask for a salad instead but as our table had finished our mains she felt it wouldnāt be worth having as we had all finished. During this time having our starters and our mains we were not even asked by our waitress if everything was ok?
Yes we did receive a discount when we asked for the bill but found the response given by a man called Chris totally incorrect and unprofessional.
Sadly will not be recommending this restaurant.
