The Francis Crick Institute

About The Francis Crick Institute

We are a biomedical discovery institute breaking down barriers between disciplines. A space where some of the most talented scientists in the world can pursue big and bold ideas.

The Francis Crick Institute Description

Inside the Crick, some of the most talented and ambitious scientists in the world working to stretch the very limits of what we know about how life works. Their research holds the key to answering fundamental questions about human health and disease.

Our bold and innovative research projects bring together scientists and technical specialists from all disciplines in the pursuit of discovery without boundaries. With the support of our partners, weвҖҷre able to bridge the gap between discovery and application to help change lives for the better.

Through our dynamic structure, weвҖҷre able to quickly develop the science leaders of tomorrow. And by opening our doors to the public and taking our science out into the world, we make lasting connections for maximum impact.

Welcome to the Crick вҖ“ where discoveries change lives and ideas find room to grow.

рҹ“° Breast cancer cells can hibernate in the lungs, where the lung cells around them offer protection. Crick scientists have found a way to block this protection and potentially limit the development of secondary tumours.

We're taking a closer look at eyes today. рҹ‘Җ
A team led by Crick, King's College London and Boston University group leader Katie Bentley has developed a new method to image whole eye and retina samples, using light sheet fluorescence microscopy.
They used the technique to look at diseased blood vessels in the eye in new levels of detail, spotting features that had been invisible up until now.

Congratulations to AГҜda Sadikh Badiane and Yaw Bediako, Crick African Network Fellows and newly elected affiliate members of the African Academy of Sciences! рҹҺү
рҹ’¬ We spoke to AГҜda and Yaw about their fellowships and heard why recognition like this is important in the early stages of a research career.
вҖңThe aims of the AAS affiliates programme line up closely with my Crick African Career Accelerator Award,вҖқ explains AГҜda. вҖңItвҖҷs an opportunity to continue my training to become a...n independent, expert scientist leading a research group and providing guidance to national level disease elimination and control programmes. Developing strong research networks in Africa will not only be beneficial to scientists, but to the public as a whole.вҖқ
вҖңThe AAS affiliates program provides a mentorship environment where I will be able to learn important leadership skills crucial to success as an African research leader,вҖқ says Yaw. вҖңBeyond my own career, I am passionate about inspiring young Africans to aspire to become world-changing scientists. Being showcased as an AAS affiliate will hopefully inspire other young Africans to be ambitious in their dreams and achieve great success in science.вҖқ
