"We shape our buildings thereafter they shape us." As said by Winston Churchill and probably every landlord/ general manager of The George Inn for the last 300 years. Just ask these generations apart lads pictured below. Separated by time but united by the task of once running this almighty south London pearl of a building. Come have an historical gander, if you listen closely I swear you can hear history whispering. #heritage #southlondon #pub #history
Our London Summer treat today is two for the price of one Aperol Spritz. Yes from 5pm to 9 pm the Aperol ambassadors will make you Italy's quintessential aperitif. Mount your vespas and get over here, bring a lover. If you can't go on vacay we will bring the vacay to you. It's all about the Dolce Vita xx Aperol Spritz
Today is a 28 degrees London Summer day and I just made it perfect with a cheeky half amber cider of the Somerset gods. Try a pint of Lilley's Mango Cider made in Somerset but tastes like a carribean vacay!! One more please bartender I want to see the palm trees! #vacation #cider #londonbridge #somerset #british Lilley's Cider
Every pub needs a secret bar and ours is the Couryard Bar. It's usually manned by our GM Tom who spends endless hours concocting tantalising Summer liquid delights. A minute at the window, forever on your bevvie list of choices. Next time you are in go find our resident Dr Concoction. He cures all! #rum #pimms #summer #sins #ale #lager Budweiser

What in incredible venue, well organised, well staffed and well stocked with booze for days
It’s likely the World Cup final of our generation will be played there and I’m definitely thinking about coming back!
What a gaff
We had a fabulous night at The George Inn for a work networking party. We hired the Parliament Bar, and were really looked after fantastically well by the team - in particular Tom Flynn who took time to make sure all the details of the night were perfect. Thanks too to the amazing singer/songwriter Lucy May Walker, who kept us well entertained with her beautiful singing. The great British food was really lovely - the pork board with the scotch eggs a highlight! We will definitely be back and are delighted to have this gem of a pub as our work local. Thanks again.
Very busy day, but a great atmosphere, friendly staff and good beer.
The best drinking hole in South London staff are perfect back in a months time
Oozing with old London charm - genuine old London not fake - places like this become ever harder to find.
I've been coming here since the early eighties so all that's changed are the prices! It's not cheap, but it's a treat.
The food looked fine, but we were just passing through.
The courtyard takes you back to Shakespeare's times, or the London of Oliver Twist. But like all of London, raise your eyes to the skies and the Shard sits nearby just to drag you back to the 21st Century.
I visited with my daughter and I really liked the historic atmosphere. There was a nice atmosphere and my lager beer was served by friendly staff. I will come back next time visiting London from Stockholm Sweden🇸🇪
I hired a room for my retirement party. Lorna, who took the original booking, was absolutely brilliant! She was friendly, accommodating and extremely personable. The whole team here are really friendly and helpful. I decided that we would have a lunch and the staff made sure all the food that was ordered (about 20 meals) all arrived at the same time at the correct temperature. I would definitely recommend this venue. They did me proud and I cannot thank them enough. X
Dropped in to show my family a quaint old London pub on a tour around the sights and spent a great afternoon watching the World Cup - fabulous atmosphere, good gin, ciders and beers
Charm, history, legacy and a superb service in the mids of busy London. Like a time machine with great food and drinks. Absolutely lovely!
Only one remark, no take out...
As a visiting American, I thought this place was awesome. Beers were great, food was great. I looked up the history of the building on Wikipedia... it was humbling to be in a pub that was standing before my ancestors even came to America.
A fantastic pub with history, had the best fish & chips in London and quite cheap for London and the London Pale Ale could have been supped all day 😎😃🇬🇧
Went early before it got too crowded. Being a long pub, always guaranteed a window view. Bit of a draught when the door is opened, blows right through from one end to the other. Nice ales, though a bit expensive, but this is a tourist area. Good menu choices but I didn't eat.
On a nostalgic trip to Southwark , ( I was a medical student at Guys in the early 1970s ), I was pleased to find a familiar landmark. Unfortunately, The Grapes at the back of the hospital and the Old Delhi curry house are long gone.
The George is excellent, with good food and beer.
The linear arrangement of the bars seems chaotic at first, but once you are used to it the service is cheerful and efficient.
Lovely pub , very busy, could do with a refurb in places, ie seats and possible a few more seats lots of people walked out as they couldn’t sit to eat, would definitely return though. Although I waited at the bar and saw two men get served that came up after me, had to speak up for myself, also gents toilets you could smell from quite a way off
It’s a really good pub and very old.
The only downside for me is when it’s busy getting served at the bar can be a slow process!
Great Old Pub, We had a fantastic meal on Sunday with friends for Mother’s Day in the Gallery restaurant upstairs, Shannon & Caddy were excellent & had a great sense of humour.
Well done keep it up 👍👍👍
Very good!
Experience great food following @Myfoodiexperiences and read my post about A year among pies.
Overpriced butter up to the tourist both hands dryers in the gents not working not good enough
This has long been one of my favourite pubs in London. We went there on Saturday and the state of the Gents toilet was indescribable. The floor was filthy with mud, one urinal was wrapped in a black bin liner and the cubicle had empty and full glasses on the floor as well as assorted waste tissue. We were in the pub for over 2 hour’s and nothing changed. Very, very poor and our Italian friends were deeply unimpressed. Don’t seem to be able to upload the photos here - but happy to provide them.
