Our chef's #homemade #banoffee pie - great to share for Fika (thanks Sophie). A bit like #afternoontea but Swedish style. You'd think that the delicious homemade cake and freshly ground #Monmouth coffee would be the most important element of Fika. Apparently not. Fika is all about taking time out of the day to spend with friends or colleagues for a sweet treat and a hot drink. We're a friendly lot at the Harry and liked the idea of sharing time, not just stuffing your face. So our afternoon tea is now called #Fika and we're serving it every week day from 3.00pm -5pm.#londonfood #londoncake #madeinkingscross #harrisonpub #harrisonhotel #harrisonbarlondon

On Saturday Bright MGMT presents Davy Flats plus Darragh O'Dea
Tickets £5 adv bit.ly/2VXh1N7
A mediocre drummer by trade, Davy Flats’ first dalliance into the music industry was in 2008, when he formed The Coonics (later Strange Boats) with three childhood friends. After releasing a number of well received singles and an album, the band took a break and Davy relocated from the west of Ireland to north London where he started writing his first songs at the age of 32. Described... as charming and erudite indie-pop, Davy’s songs tend to be observations on contemporary topics such as dating apps, infidelity, Brexit, boredom and food fads. Currently recording his debut album, Davy has released several successful singles to date including Avocado and Snowflakes.
Avocado: A short song about nostalgia and consumerism; Avocado, refers to the growing herd of people in 2019 with a champagne taste on a lemonade budget, and those who support Fair Trade coffee shops from Monday to Friday but are less concerned about the source of their Class As at the weekend. Added to various UK radio playlists (including Steve Lamacq BBC 6 Music, and John Kennedy Radio X), Avocado is an anthem for anyone who turns their back on bourgeois aspirations and is content with living a simple life. Snowflakes: Following the EU referendum result in 2016, Davy noticed the subsequent fallout between London and the rest of the UK and he quickly penned Snowflakes, a song which Steve Lamacq described as "the sort of thing that might have tickled John Peel's fancy".

Friday 10th May New Roots Promotions presents Gem Andrews
Tickets £8.50 adv bit.ly/2vjrQgM
Gem Andrews writes Americana and folk music with an honesty and rawness that cuts to the quick. Andrews' superb songs are backed by lush harmonies, sweet fiddle, piano and accordion, and supported by a double bass and drums rhythm section. Deeply rooted in contemporary alt-country, her sound makes respectful nods to the giants of roots and country music, Patsy Cline, Lucinda Williams a...nd Kate & Anna McGarrigle, all the while maintaining her own fiercely independent spirit.
In Andrews' powerful new album 'North', released in January 2018, she employs a noir-country stye to tackle heavyweight themes of mental illness, poverty, community and destitution. Running through every song is the North East of England- as subect, backdrop and through tribute to local legends, including adaptations of poems by the late, great local poet and playwright Julia Darling. 'North' captures the energy and warmth of the people of the region, and the rage felt at a political class who have left them to waste.

Calling Blue Jay // Martin Callingham
Tickets £5 adv bit.ly/2Vr198M
... Calling Blue Jay is the musical project of London-based, Belgian songwriter and musician, Marieke De Keukelaere, alongside Latvian violinist, Maris Peterlevics. The music can be described as atmospheric alt-folk, a sound that is simultaneously intimate and powerful. Creating an otherworldly melancholy, the listener is taken to a landscape somewhere between the desert and the sea where nothing is what it seems. Seeking to explore complexities through self-reflection and visualisations, lyrics taste bittersweet and performances are known to be intimate and captivating. Following on from Marieke's solo debut album 'Woods' new album 'Indigo Dreams' will be released on the 22nd of February 2019 of which 2 songs were already made public, including `The City Shake` which received airplay on BBC 6 by Tom Robinson calling out its intensity.
