About The Horn

Hertfordshire's premier live music venue.

The Horn Description

Situated in the City Centre, The Horn is recognised as one of the top music pub venues in the UK. We won 'Entertainment Pub of the Year 2008' and 'Live Music Pub Venue 2008'.

We show around 80 acts a month and contrary to popular belief, 90% of these bands are original and not tributes.

There's a mass of history The Horn has to offer, including John Peel being a frequent customer back in the day. Numerous artists have kicked off their careers here, such as Kim Wilde (who was also a barmaid) and Paul Young. More recently bands such as The Gallows (held their album release party here), The Subways and Enter Shikari.

18 + ( + 14's must be accompanied by an adult)

We like local bands. If your interested in playing drop us a line at info@thehorn. co. uk

Militia Militia range from 15-19 years old and share the same love for idols such as Megadeth and Slayer for their Thrash side, Black Sabbath for their Doom Side and Pantera for their Groove.
Black Skull Ritual After playing together in local punk metal band 'Midnite Frost', Karl and Baron formed Black Skull Ritual as an ambient black doom project, self releasing demo CD's in 2006 and 2007. Reforming in 2016 determined to play in a live environment the current incarnation of ...Black Skull Ritual was formed as a savage mix of Godflesh and Celtic Frost, retaining their punk metal roots but forging new ground with programmed sounds and beats.

TV COMA are a self hating millennial rock band. Raised on a lean diet of crap beer and Weezer albums, songwriting siblings Leo and Max Troy join forces with drum whiz Robert Clark and deeply unemployed bassman Jamie Rider to pump out Power Pop earworms influenced by Jeff Rosenstock, Blur and Andy Kaufman. Sure they might look like Manson family rejects, but don't let the beardy vibe weird you out.
... Oddity Road Supported by Huw Stephens on Radio 1 and given a spin by Steve Lamacq on BBC Radio 6, Oddity Road defy their young age to deliver heavy riffs and tight infectious songs influenced by bands such as Kings Of Leon, Foo Fighters and The Killers.

We are excited to announce The Wave Pictures on Weds 20th March.
The Wave Pictures returned with their new album 'Bamboo Diner in The Rain' in 2016. Following on from 2015's Billy Childish collaboration 'Great Big Flamingo Burning Moon' and their recent acoustic record 'A Season in Hull', 'Bamboo Diner in the Rain' sees The Wave Pictures battling against the robot music apocalypse. The album is a bluesy, boozy love letter to the guitar, filled with American Primitive instrumentals, John Lee Hooker chugs and Link Wray style minor-key surf music.

We are pleased to announce Mosa Wild will be at The Horn on Weds 6th March.
Invoking the likes of The National, The Maccabees and, dare I say it, the latest work of Mumford & Sons, the Ashford four combine a relentless, driving drum beat with atmospheric guitar feedback and warm keyboards to create this inspiring and wholly uplifting slice of indie-leaning pop-rock.

In 2017, Pip Blom released three tracks written as a full band: the jangling fuzz of 'School', Courtney Barnett-esque 'Babies Are A Lie' and 'I Think I'm In Love' ‚Äď a ramshackle spiral of needling guitar lines and rattling hooks, set for re-release on XXX. Earning the band fans in Huw Stephens and Mark Riley (who asked them in to record two 6Music sessions during the year), alongside mentions in NME, DIY, The Li...ne of Best Fit and more, it showed that Pip's inklings towards what the music could turn into were correct.

User

Ultimate Coldplay were amazing. Sounded and looked really authentic - played all the tunes you would expect to hear. What a fab night.

User

The food here is amazing. So pleased with your selection of vegetarian food. It's all delicious. P.s. please keep the Smashing Pumpkins Burger! It's too good to be just a Halloween special. Best burger I've ever had.

User

Most lit pub in St Albans, it always has great bands and it's right next to an off-licence if you can't afford the alcohol :^)

User

I haven't been to The Horn for years. I bought a ticket to see my Cousin's band Neon Waltz. A small venue but intimate and raw as ever. Took me back to my young punk days!! Great staff. Great venue. Gonna be back next month for Four fighters tribute band next month.

User

Had another amazing night at the best venue in St Albans! Amazing band on called El Bronson, food was awesome and the team behind the bar help make the night. Excellent service and will be back again soon ÔŅĹ Rock on!

User

Great night seeing Free State Revolution. George at the bar really looked after us. Fab venue with an amazing atmosphere.

User

A proper pub! With proper music and good food. Of course went there for the music and the "gig" room at the back is great for it

User

User

Great night seeing Four Fighters. Only downer, was we could only just get in to the door way!!! Spent whole time being in the way! It was packed, which was great for the band, but felt too many people. Band were spot on!

User

Great beerÔŅĹÔŅĹ

User

Been few times now good size beer garden good food good venue for live music well worth checking it out

User

Nice venue Good music Disappointed I could not get a cup of coffee in the evening.

User

Really enjoyed The Revivals last night, they were awesome and the sound was fantastic... but all it takes is one person to ruin the atmosphere.

One lone person throwing himself around, knocking into everybody else. I was at least 3 people away from him and still I got hurt and hurt my own friend in the process. It could have been so EASILY rectified if security had been anywhere to be seen, but once again they were non existent. I’m definitely going to think twice before returning to what was once one of my favourite music venues.

User

Went to see Doors Alive. Seen them at other venues before and they are great. But the sound at the Horn was absolutely awful. Never again (at the Horn).

Before I start can I point out these comments are based purely on the restaurant side of The Horn and are nothing to do with it's music venue function. I would not recommend this pub to anyone; friend, family or stranger. I went here for a meal with my mum and brother on Saturday. The food was cheap, but reflected its price in the quality and size. The pub itself has been done out like a mixture between a 1950's diner, a 1980's rock cafe but still with a touch of that "modern" feel that a lot of old pubs are sadly adopting, to the point of having musical quotes painted on the pastel coloured walls and even the roof and the menus, pieces of paper stuck on either side of an old LP record; a nice idea but very poorly done. My main problem with our visit was when I went to the bar to get a second drink as we had had to wait so long for our food that the first were long gone half way through eating. When I got to the bar I had to wait a few minutes to be served, understandable given it was mid-afternoon on a summer weekend. When I did get served though it was by who I assume was the manager/owner because surely no member of staff would be so rude. I asked for a glass of water (needed more so because my beef burger was SO dry) he then paused and stared at me for a few seconds before saying "you know this a pub, we sell things". I was a bit shocked by this as my family and I were sitting in the pub over paying for their bar food. The barmaid then pointed out to him his error but no apology was made, just an instant awkwardness about the man from that point on. I won't be going back there again and I will be retelling this story to everyone I know. My view is that the pub must be a sinking ship financially for the owner to be so rude about serving free water with OR with out food. Dire experience. I would if I could, give this place a 0 star rating but Facebook doesn't seem to allow it. My advice to anyone thinking of going to The Horn... DON'T!
