The Household Cavalry

About The Household Cavalry

Welcome to The Household Cavalry, the most senior regiment in the British Army, the leading experts in Strike and Ceremonial duties protecting The Monarch.

The Household Cavalry Description

With a proud tradition of over three centuries
service as a bodyguard to the Sovereign, and made
up of the British Army’s two most senior regiments,
the Household Cavalry sits at the very heart of the cultural and military heritage of Britain. The Regiment’s rich history stretches back
to 1660, from descendants of King Charles II’s Life
Guards and the Earl of Oxford’s ‘Blues’. Since then
it has forged a tradition, ethos and reputation for
excellence and professionalism, whether it is for
State Ceremonial duties, or the British Army's operational requirements.

Every Household Cavalry soldier is first and
foremost a fighting soldier, and uniquely in the
British Army, the Household Cavalry use their
qualities to excellent effect by combining their role
in armoured fighting vehicles with the mounted
State Ceremonial role. It is this flexibility that has
allowed us to remain at the forefront of the combat
operations of today, whilst still maintaining the
highest standards and strong traditions of the past.

The Mounted Regiment was privileged to yesterday host the Tottenham Hotspur’s Ladies Football Club. Rather than just giving our usual tour, we decided to show them a short “day-in-the-life” of what it is really like at the regiment. We started with some light mucking out, followed by a hearty breakfast. The team was then shown the Queen’s Life Guard inspection, next was a tour of the various regimental departments, including the farriers, saddlers, and full dress store...and..., of course, a visit to the drum horses. Lastly, before enjoying a well-deserved lunch in the WOs’ and NCOs’ Mess, the Regiment’s Royal Army Physical Training Corps Instructor set out a variety of excellent command tasks in Hyde Park - these tasks are both a great team-building opportunity, and a lot of fun. A great time was had by both the soldiers involved and the wonderfully enthusiastic Spur’s ladies. Thanks for coming!

If you’re in London, why not head to Southbank and check out the Royal British Legions “Thank You” installation. A simple message to the WW1 generation. The back of the letters have been left blank so you can leave your own thank you messages.

Thank you to everyone who came along, and supported, our Open Day. Despite the heat, it was great to see a tremendous turn-out. As a little thank you, enjoy this 360 degree video of the Riding Master, Maj. Chambers, jumping over Lt.Col. Williams & Lt.Col. Gaselee.

Yesterday was the Mounted Regiment’s annual Officers & Troopers vs. the WOs and NCOs cricket match. The WOs and NCOs chased down a score of 173, set in 27 overs by the Officers, to win comfortably with 4 overs spare and 2 wickets left. Man of the match was CoH Sabatini, bowling out the Commanding Officer, Lt Col James Gaselee, and setting the highest score of 48. Other stand out performances were from Capt Mountain with another fine batting performance and effective bowling and from LCpl Van de Walt, who made the catch of the game from close range with one hand. The game was fantastic and hosted immaculately by Mundford Cricket Club.

#FanfareFriday! Each week you can enjoy a different trumpet fanfare and begin to put names to the popular tunes we all hear at various parades throughout the year. This week, we bring you “Edinburgh”.

Exercise Warriors Craft. Elements of HCR are in BATUS Canada, to support the Battlegroup in delivering effective training by being a realistic and challenging enemy force know as OPFOR (Opposing Force). As OPFOR HCR will provide soldiers split into 4 ops boxes, one urban defence, one urban assault, a tank on tank and an armoured infantry bridge crossing serial.🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦 @ British Army Training Unit Suffield

The Riding Staff completed their Puissance Competition today at Regimental Training. The competition involves a maximum of five rounds - opening round followed by four jump-offs, not against the clock. The first round consisted of four large single obstacles including the puissance wall. As riders were eliminated, the jumps became higher! The competition ended with CoH Glass taking first place, jumping the wall at a height of 1 metre 45 centimetres. Congratulations!

This is a gem of a museum. Filled with everything from uniforms to Faberge. It was lovely to have the actual members present to interact with. There was a unique peak into the stables. Would highly recommend this museum and it is a great price.

Thank you on behalf of St John Ambulance in Shropshire for allowing us to meet you and take photos of our mascot 'Bertie Badger' with you at this years Shrewsbury Flower Show, he loved it!!

Spent a good 8 years in the HCR. Good and bad, overall top class job with some top class people!

User

One of the best things we watched when we went to the Kent County show earlier this month. Xx

My husband spent 16 years of his life from boy to man with the HCR both armoured and ceremonial and I spent his last 4 years serving with them as his wife. The regiment has many great memories for us both and served him well. We both love to keep up to date even after 13 years away from the army life and still keep in touch with all 'the lads' and friends that we made over the years. Keep up the good work

User

My Dad was in Lifeguards. Unfortunately passed away (was in a coma for many years) whilst serving Rodney Stiff. I have very happy fond memories of him and visiting the horses. He is buried in Windsor not far from the bks.

User

Loved photographing them today a tick off my bucket list

User

It’s so lovely to see how well the horses are looked after and how much their riders love them! Always look absolutely incredible!! They do us all so proud

User

I loved my time in the Cavalry, I left in 1974 to come to Canada, but to this day, I miss it every single day.

User

I find the texture and camber of the slope leading into Combermere Barracks one of the finest pieces of construction in the Home Counties

Fond, fond memories as a young boy, stood very stock still posing for a photey between two Cavalrymen at a Tynwald Day Ceremony at Tynwald Day in Isle of Man at St Johns in early to mid 1970's in a composed scene my good Auntie, a, now third time retired Art Fine Painting and Leisure and Recreation College Lecturer photographed!

Saved my life, back in the day!
