Where has all the sex gone? “Perhaps we’re merely seeing a compartmentalising of sexually explicit material versus everyday film … perhaps in the foreseeable future, mainstream cinema will have no need for sex scenes at all.” Fact is, the number of films receiving an 18 certificate is going down, year on year. There's a lot of interesting comment here!

Brent Foodbank have been in touch this week with another huge THANK YOU to all of you who've donated via the Lexi. To give some context, over the last year you've donated over 148 kilos in food and essentials, which is the equivalent of 270 meals for individuals in difficulty.
The Foodbank said the problems have escalated with the roll out of Universal Credit across Brent. If you'd appreciate some direction, they've specially suggested tinned meat/fruit/veg; sugar; long life milk and juice; pasta sauce; biscuits; laundry powder and toilet paper.
Thank you, one and all!

Van Gogh did his sunflower paintings during the period of intense productivity covered by AT ETERNITY'S GATE.
He painted five large canvases of sunflowers in a vase, using three shades of yellow ‘and nothing else’ to show it's possible to create an image with variations of a single colour without any loss of eloquence.
Come bask in the potent colours - not just yellows! - of AT ETERNITY'S GATE, from today, 12 Apr: https://thelexicinema.co.uk/film/eternity s-gate

"It is a film that strives to capture the ecstatic presentness, the immersion in the moment and the blazing, almost athletic certainty with which Van Gogh painted." Guardian

"Comedy was my escapism because I lived in the hood,” says dynamo Taraji P Henson.
Adam Shankman, director of WHAT MEN WANT, a project designed around Taraji says: "She has this encyclopaedic knowledge of old screwball comedies. I could say to her, ‘Now I need you to be like Rosalind Russell in 'His Girl Friday’ or whatever, and she could just pull it out of the hat.”

love having this wonderful independent art-house cinema locally and bumping into like-minded cinephiles. V modern and comfortable venue with good sound and seating, plus a welcoming bar and gallery space. Moreover, all profits for a good cause, which just enhances the feel-good factor :-) (and I never use emojis...)

User

What a wonderful, hidden gem this Cinema is.

It feels modern, yet quaint. Comfortable yet intimate. Discovered it by accident and it's just up the road from my workplace. Relaxed atmosphere, lovely staff, great quality projection and sound, comfy seats, tables for drinks, and a bar!

Absolutely top marks. The fact that proceeds go to a noble cause is extra icing on an already gorgeous cake.

User

The only way to watch cinema - utterly civilised

User

The most perfect cinema in the whole of London

User

The best place to enjoy sliverscreen magic!!!

User

The Lexi offers up to date movies including a balance of really excellent documentaries and stuff that wouldn't normally air down the multiscreen places. Add to this the intimacy of a small venue with a well stocked bar, comfortable accessible seats and to cap it all, contributing to an outstanding charity. It's also my closest cinema which is why it gets the fifth star. There's nothing to dislike about this place.

User

Another Five star visit to The Lexi Cinema! I’ll tell you what else is 5 stars, and worthwhile combining a visit with is the comedy ‘Not Just Rob Gotobed But Also Tony Knight’ at The Leicester Square Theatre, London on May 23rd 2015 - it’s a GREAT Comedy and a great way to unwind! Even Prince William & Kate are fans!

“From the moment you enter the theatre you are taken on a comedic journey of absurdity. So sit back, relax and I will guarantee that not only will you laugh out loud, you will fall off your chair laughing out loud … Yes, the humor of classic British Monty Python Comedy is alive and well in the form of Rob Gotobed & Tony Knight” F. Kathleen Foley, The Los Angeles Times.

User

And we will be back! Julieta was a great film and the Lexi cinema is delightful

User

All the staff and volunteers are very welcoming and helpful. If you are lucky you may even be given a short resume, by one of them, of what you are about to watch!

User

A very home from home first time experience - most impressive.

User

The atmosphere in the Lexi is lovely, the ticket price is fabulous. The fact that the cinema is not huge makes it feel really comfortable 'its like watching a film with friends in an intimate setting'.

User

Love having the Lexi just down the road. We are very lucky. Get there early though as it's small - but you knew that!

User

Lexi is a great little cinema with helpful and friendly staff (GO And Enjoy)

User

I went for an art show in the long, narrow gallery space. It was lovely to be greeted in such a friendly way. The Lexi has a great vibe, and an interesting programme of films. I’ll definitely return.
