Last Saturday's 10km race at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park was my first event with Race Organizer. The run was well put together - ample information was provided ahead of the run, bag drop was effortless, course marshals were helpful, the cafe was open to runners (I was able to grab a quick espresso ahead of the run!) and washrooms accessible to the runners. All of these factors ensured a comfortable, fuss-free experience for runners. Would totally do it all over again, except I don't live in London :(

User

I've now done two races with The Race Organiser - Dorney Lake and the Regent's Park half. Both were so relaxed and friendly, yet well organised and efficient. It's a great combination! I think the events are good value for money, they've been invaluable as part of a marathon training programme, and I'll definitely be back for more

User

I've done the Greenwich Park 10km run. It's the friendliest run I've ever been to, from the fun warm up to the stewards who cheer you all the way round. Just brilliant!

User

I have now done three Race Organiser events at Draycote and think they're good value for money. They are always very well organised and the goody bags and t-shirts are great too :)

User

I came from Denmark and what an amazing Day.. We had in Regent Park..

Thanks to Race Organiser..

User

Dorney lake triathlon - absolutely loved it. Great venue, relaxed atmosphere and good organisation. This will become an annual fixture in my racing calendar from now on

User

Don't do reviews normally but was compelled to give one this time. Have just completed the Essex Cross County series, and what a great event.

Five great parks, all well organised and marshalled. And great value for money, the goodie bag after every race puts races costing twice as much to shame. Definitely be back for next year, well done to everyone involved with this!!

User

I did the 10K at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. It was a positive experience overall and most of the volunteers were great, but I felt it could be improved further to bring it on par with other running events.

Areas for improvement:

1. Have someone announce each finisher's name/number as they cross the line. I finished just over the 1 hour mark and it was a very quiet, underwhelming finish.

2. Give out the medal & goodie bags at the finish line, or provide a sign/marshall indicating where to go. I crossed the line and had no idea where to go to collect my reward.

3. Pre-race briefing should include some guidance on running etiquette. I saw fast runners struggling to get past a group of slower runners who had spread out forming a barrier across the whole path.

User

Having done 4 out of 5 of the Essex series I have enjoy every one of them and see no reason to think I won't enjoy the 5th.

Great communication via the emails in the build up to the events and on the day with registration and the course.

Keep doing what you're doing.

User

The atmosphere and support from runners today was brilliant at draycote and I got a PB so yay!. But worried about the lack of water/cups at the finish....I really needed water in that heat after a sprint finish. Also running out of all t-shirts except XXL within the first hour is poor planning. All those poor runners coming in after that having put in maximum effort missed out on a tshirt :(

User

Ran the Draycote 10k this morning. I enjoyed the actual race, but I found the organisation sub-standard. Having received an email a couple of days ago telling us that the race would "start promptly at 9.30", many of duly got to the starting line in good time, only to have to then hang around for a 9.45 start: if the decision and the reasons were communicated, it wasn't clear to a lot of us. Then at the finish, on what was a very warm morning, there was a shortage of both water and plastic cups. Given that the entry fee isn't especially cheap, I do think you need to get things like this right, as they give a very poor impression of the organisation.

User

Draycote 10k today. Lovely venue, poor organisation, started late, distinct lack of marshals on the course and had to stand and wait at the water station for water as they didn't have any ready. On the plus side, great finishers goodies.

User

Draycote 10 miler – 24.09.17. Positives: lovely run, great setting, easy parking, no loo queue, registration desk well organised. Negatives: no marshals or signs at 10 mile start line so everyone walked way further than they needed to and then had to walk back; lots of the marshals appeared to be <18 without adult support.

User

Awful pre race comms for Olympic Park 10k. Received nothing other than receipt of payment by email, no instructions at all. Found online where the start line was but then it turned out when we arrived that it wasn’t there and it was actually right over the other side of the park. Luckily we had left ourselves enough time so we didn’t miss the start. Once we arrived it was well organised and we enjoyed the race. Unfortunately though my husband’s time wasn’t in the results list and I got in contact on the day but nothing has just been done about it.

User

Upslidedown on 20rh Sept at 18.30.. total farse from start to finish. No official warm up, as stated In email, names called out and the male with the clip board was to tell people that even if someone was missing they still had to wait the 30 seconds before releasing the next person, to keep order... but people were just pushing in and demanding to go with friends and he let them. I eventually got to start my run up some 35 minutes later... My TomTom recording a time of 5.05 and i was pleased.... only to get my print out stating 8.55... I questioned this to be told basically it's chipped so that's all they can do.

40 minutes wait to slide down due to only using 3 mats for 50+ people! And having to wait for the mats to come back up in the lift...!

Now the results are on the site and my name states a time 4.55...but I'm male 50 years..... I'm female 46.

Only 1 photo halfway up... a headband shoved into my hand and a cup of warm water at the top. No finishers photo as promised . £30:00 always seemed a tad pricey....and now I would not recommend it to anyone.

User

This was my first ever race so I was nervous and excited at the same time. Started late as parking proved a problem for the organisers (did they not have previous experience?), but was not a problem and the weather was so kind for us. A great experience and delighted to have completed it. Was thrilled to receive my token medal, however the bright yellow T-Shirts were only available in a large or bigger, so will never be worn. The pre-email also said a photographer would be taking pictures at the end - no such photographer to be seen which was a shame as I would have liked a momento of my first ever race.

User

The atmosphere at Draycote Water 10k (13th August)was good and the course was lovely however, The Race Organiser should have done a lot better. The medals were very poor, it looked like they had been made using a home printer that was low on ink. The water station was out of cups which was terrible when you have ran a hard race. I also thought the goody bags were very poor. I was lucky to get the T-shirt in the correct size but felt sorry for members in our group that ended up with XL size. Really poor show guys, such a shame.

User

I have yet to do an event (having had to defer) but my experience of poor pre-event communication (as I try to transfer my entry) seems echoed in visitor posts. So to me this appears to be a significant weakness of TRO. I am shortly to write an article on the pros & cons of large v small race organisers, which is timely! If I ever get to actually do a TRO event, I will update my rating accordingly.

User

I've enjoyed some past 10ks with the Race Organiser but Upslide Down was not up to their normal good standard. The pre-race comms was extremely poor (non-existent until 2 days before the race, not even an email confirming payment). Friends I had booked on and provided email addresses got nothing. The logistics on the day were okish. We were told max 20 min wait at the bottom from first ascender to last. That wasn't true - I set off about 35 mins after the first, and there were at least another 20 to go after me . At the top there was a wait for up to 45 minutes to get down the slide. Not ok when people had just thrashed themselves getting up to the top. It was getting cold and late people were not dressed to wait around that long. I raised this on the night both with the race organiser officials and with Acelor Orbit. While the precise reasons for the holdups seemed to be down to Orbit, still the Race Organiser had ultimate accountability for the safety and smooth operation of the race. Overall from gathering at 6pm for a 6.30 start for the first ascender, I didn't leave until 8.30pm. Over 2 hours for an event of under 5 minutes! Not worth the £30 entry fee. A good idea, but needs more thought and prep for organisation and care of participants later in the season.
