About The Red Lion, Water End

The Red Lion, set near the river in Water End, is our modern interpretation of an original Public House. . . a warm and friendly meeting place, serving great food and drink all day to local people, businesses, families and visitors.

The Red Lion, Water End Description

The Red Lion combines comfort, atmosphere and style in a building that dates back to the early 1700's. The original listed building has been renovated sympathetically to create a warm and cosy bar with open fires and the more modern part of the building showcasing Oakman Inns & Restaurants' signature open kitchen and airy and contemporary restaurant. For the warmer months, this opens into a stylish outside paved area for alfresco dining.

Join us for breakfast, morning coffee or tea, and a selection of fresh cakes and pastries. Enjoy a range of Mediterranean-inspired lunches or dinners, featuring dishes grilled in our charcoal-fuelled Josper oven and genuine Italian hand-made pizzas cooked in our wood-fired pizza oven. Our bar is open all day, with an extensive list of wines, beers, real ales and cocktails.

We had a lovely breakfast yesterday morning before setting off for home. Staff were friendly and helpful, we will be back.

User

We can’t come here as often as we like but when we do it never disappoints. Service is professional and the food is amazing.

User

Very nice place. We were served by James and he was very polite and friendly. I suggest an immediate wage increase for him if you want to keep good staff.

User

Very disappointing the barman on Sunday honestly had one brain cell ,I ordered a gambas pil pil and asked for it to be my main meal.

He just ordered the small starter even though I explained to him in length what I was wanting to order.

Gambas pil pil how exciting never seen it on a menu in the U.K. The excitement was soon totally shot through the roof as on this tiny tiny brown dish was three shrimps no longer than 1.5 cm long cold with mushed up tomatoes an absulote disgrace😡So would I go back really the chef is having a laugh .....

User

Top notch food and service. Staff very friendly and helpful. Interior spacious and welcoming. Will return!

My first visit to The Red Lion, with my daughter, who has visited on many occasions, and I loved it. Gentle ambiance, large fire, friendly staff and my breakfast was delicious. Would recommend and can’t wait to visit again.

User

Lovely pub/restaurant, very impressed with the outdoor space, plenty of comfy seating, big rattan sofas and chairs, perfect for this weather x we had a taster of the bar menu which was delicious, loved the halloumi fries x there was a bbq aswell which smelt lovely aswell as everything else, plenty of variety for whatever you fancied be it a roast, a light meal or just picky bits overall a great visit would definitely go back x

User

Lovely evening! Great food, service was excellent. I had the lamb & Greek salad and he had fish pie! Very reasonable price. Great atmosphere at the bar after dinner.

User

Great place, good food and great time. Market sure you book for the weekend, so popular hard to find somewhere to park.

User

Fantastic service and food for a very large Christmas Party. I was amazed by the quality of the food due to the large catering. The platter for a starter was a great idea and Christmas Pudding was just the right amount. Not only that, you didn’t need to remember what you had ordered, as they have your name and bring your order to you. Thank you Red Lion for a lovely night.

User

Absolutely brilliant afternoon! Thanks to the waiters for all the double gins and bottles of Prosecco! Service and Food was amazing!

User

Really nice place. Delicious food. You have to make reservations in advance. In summer will be great for kids also.

User

First time there in years! I was really impressed lovely outdoor seating and atmosphere, friendly helpfull staff, food is nice however a little over the top for starters but i will deffo be returning again

User

Don’t think of this as a pub with a restaurant, it’s a cut above that with classy food, a warm reception and friendly service. Plenty of parking too. One slight issue was the slow bar service, it took an age for my Guinness to arrive at the table... maybe best to go to the bar first before taking a seat?

User

Very nice place. Food tasted nice. But for the cost it's not worth it for size of the portions I'm afraid. Would go back for drinks and I'll try the pizza but nothing special for price your paying on Sunday roast. Food was mixed up with other table. Long wait but were busy. Bar little slow.

User

Food was tasty but didn't think it was worth the money. My starter was £7.25 but was very small yes I know it's only a starter but 4 rings of calamari is not worth £7.25. Nearly £17 for a roast dinner and I have to say meat was lovely but roast potatoe vary small and only one of them. So not great value for money.

User

Went today with family and I really wasn’t impressed this time!

The garden was untidy and tables sticky, we then ordered food at the bar and waited 45 mins for starters, calamari was just about covered with batter and halloumi chips there was only about 3 in the pot which for the price isn’t great!

We then waited 45 mins between starters and main ( we also had children waiting )

The two chicken roasts were awful, soggy potatoes, rock hard veg and no stuffing which I then asked for and when it was brought out on a separate plate I nearly died lol

They had thrown some cut up sausages covered in gravy on a plate and tried to pass it as stuffing, when I took it bk into the kitchen area I asked the waitresses what they thought I had on the plate ( there replies “ bacon “

Yuk Erm not sure ...... apparently the chef ran out of stuffing so just threw some soggy cut up sausages on a plate!!!!!!!! We spent £200 on 6 dinners and some soft drinks and I left and went to my local co op and brought a pizza! I think for the money it’s really not worth it and needs to up its game dramatically

User

Lovely venue, especially for sitting outside in the summer. The waitress was very friendly, but the service was so slow, even taking into consideration how busy it was. The food was fine (although my scampi from the specials looks like something I would dish up myself as a quick dinner. Tasty but John Torode would have something to say about the presentation.. and £24 for 2 glasses of wine was a bit steep. Nice venue, but overpriced for what you get.. and we didn't want to chance waiting another hour for the dessert ..

User

I came for lunch today and ordered a pizza with n'duja sausage on it but actually didn't get any n'duja on it only to be told by the waitress to say it should be on it then she goes to the chefs that our next to us to tell them only to hear the chefs slagging us off about it which we could here which tbh is not on and tbf I actually enjoyed the pizza but just be honest they didn't put any on it and then to be charged for a extra topping that I had but I didn't have the n'duja but no explanation apart from next time we will check but I get nothing! Just feel like the service is lazy and no one really cares as we didn't even get asked how w was things until we got there attention!
