About The Robin Hood - Clacton

The Robin Hood in Clacton-on-Sea is a country pub & restaurant oozing rural charm and rustic character

The Robin Hood - Clacton Description

Our picturesque surroundings provide the perfect backdrop for savouring the hearty, seasonal pub-food on our menu, and the carefully nurtured cask ales and fine wines gracing our bar.

A little pub history

The site on which the inn stands was the Brooker farmhouse, which was originally known as a building called 'Feveralds' or 'Brewers' which had belonged to the Reynolds family 300 years ago. The date the building was constructed;1823, can be seen engraved into the stone above one of our fireplaces today.

always love this place. But yesterdays visit was the best. Service was top notch. Our main waiter was great. No challenge for them to answer questions about the food. Food seemed even better quality than normal and very fresh.

Went there yesterday 4th July 2018 with friends for a Birthday meal, fantastic service from the staff, even though it was busy, they took the time to sing Happy Birthday to my friend, when they bought the cake 🎂 out! Couldn’t ask for any better! Top staff and lovely food!

User

Went in on a Wednesday for the pie night and was pleasantly surprised. Very friendly and attentive staff and everything that we ate was well cooked and nicely presented. Well done, we will be back.

Went in for a meal for my son's 5th birthday. Our food was brilliant and the staff were very attentive especially to my son which added to his experience.

Thank you.

We had been at this lovely place for Christmas day menu and another day a la carte. The place is lovely, the staff is friendly and attentive, festive table decoration and also those little attentions which pleased our little daughter. The menu was really delicious. Thank you for this wonderful evening far from home.

Also the evening we were here a la carte was gorgeous. The food is really great. A variety of oven baked or fried cheeses with delicious dips and chutneys, homemade bread and I really loved those cider soaked raisins...the mains were also delicious, let me mention this really tasty St. Peter without, my husband really loved it.

We'll be definitely back to this lovely place, when we're back to UK.

Waited half an hour for waitress to come and take our drink and food order. When I went up and asked when she was taking our order her reply was " I didn't see you. ". There were 3 table of people, so not busy. The next waitress way very very helpful. Took our food and drinks orders with no problem. End of meal asked the original waitress for our bill. OK she says, she walks past one of the other tables and they also ask for bill. She is back with his bill straight away, ours doesn't show. They did give her a big tip 😂 Maybe she couldn't see us. After waiting for bill we were thinking of just leaving as she couldn't see us 🙈. Asked second waitress for bill. Again she was very very helpful and knocked some money off the bill. I was informed she was new, maybe she needs more training or her eyes tested 😵 👓

Had a meal yesterday lunchtime for my friends birthday & her family. Have to say we hadn’t booked but were shown to a nice table straightaway. The service was very good & didn’t have to wait long for drinks or food. Our waitress was very pleasant & efficient. We all enjoyed our food & had no complaints. Refurb is nice too.

User

Went there boxing day, starter was nice and pudding was good but the dinner was way below par, all made from microwave, cardboard turkey, potatoes were cooked solid, no Yorkshires :(

Felt very sorry for the very small number of staff trying to keep everyone happy.

Shame as this place has great potential

Waiting time between meals far too long! Starters were nice, then mains came sweet potato chips were black burnt, steaks went back as we ordered 1 well done, & 1 medium! We got two burnt! Peas too hard, side of mushrooms were in the tiny pot? Sweet came up, it was nice but not great! This pub needs more staff to do a proper job! We won't be rushing back! Over priced , & service to slow!

First time here, had the lamb duo meal which @ £14.95 was not good value for money. The lamb must have been on a diet because there was little of it & it had lots of grisel to top it off.

The waitress who brought the meal wasn't the one who took away the plates so not much opportunity to complain to the right person.

No one came to ask how the meal was going.

So overall not impressed

Been multiple times last time was the worst - me and my partner both had steak on their steak and supper night and both steaks stone cold - told the waitress who offered us a free coke ?! Then tried to charge me full price and not the offer of the set menu. They do not take care of younger customers( myself and my partner are in our 20’s) at all we were neglected and left while other tables waited on hand and foot. Really disappointing from previous visits.

We had a meal here about 3 months ago on a Sunday with our 2 friends from Berkshire as it was a Sunday we all had a Sunday Roast, it was served up hot and we didn't have to wait too long. The meal tasted delicious, meat was tender and vegetables were fresh and cooked to perfection, the parsnips and carrots were cooked in a honey glaze and tasted delicious. On Sunday 6th May our friends from Berkshire came to see us again and as we all really enjoyed our meal here before my friend booked us a table on line for lunch. We arrived on time for our booking and the young man behind the bar said that we should order our drinks with him while we were waiting for our table to become available( which we did) and he said he would fetch them over to us. We were then shown to our table about 5 minutes later. After a further 5 minute wait a very sweet young lady came to take our order and we politely told her we were still waiting for our drinks, apparently the young man at the bar had forgotten our order! We do enjoyed our meal at our last visit so we ordered the same meals this time, 3 sirloin of beef roast dinners and 1 pork roast. When they eventually were brought to our table my friend who ordered the pork pointed out to the waitress that he'd been given turkey. The plate was taken away and came back with a couple of slices of pork p!onked on top of what looked like the original plate of veg and how meal was like warm! The rest of us with the beef were also very disappointed, no way was that sirloin of beef, it was as tough as old boots and the carrots weren't peeled. We were also given a very small portion of greens, I know it was busy, being a Bank holiday weekend, but they must've been running out of the greens as they stuck a couple of frozen brussels sprouts in the middle to make it look more, the whole meal tasted awful, was luke warm and meat tough. The meal and drinks and we only had one drink each, pint of Carling, gin and tonic, medium glass white house wine and a diet pepsi, came to £90.00 including a top as we actually felt sorry for our young waitress, none of this was her fault. After the worst meal we've had in ages and the most expensive for what it was, NO, I AM ALMOST CERTAIN WE WILL NOT BE RETURNING!!!!

It is what it is micro pub food for a good part of the menu .

Very unorganised, far to few staff ,waiting time for drinks at bar unexceptionable.

I’m not sure why this place is not up to standards,as on paper it should be .

There needs to be two bar staff at all times on bar ,and at least four waiters / waitresses on at all shifts .

A manager is hard to find if you have a complaint ,and they try very hard to put you off of speaking to one if you should want to .

The meals under normal circumstances are reasonably priced ,should they come out as described, but not quite the case in some of them ,so I would actually say over priced .

The staff need a lot more training as although, this is a pub grub sort of place ,there is very littl pub ,so food and service ,should be more on the level of half a decent restaurant.

It’s not the worse in the world ,but I would not put myself out to eat hear ,witch is a shame as it’s close and I would eat there at least twice a week if the standards were better .

Come on Robinhood pull your socks up ,you have had your face lift ! Now lift your standards and your staff .

User

What a shambles....!! Sunshine calls a crazy crumble! Over an hour and half for fillet steak and burger, both served soooooo cremated they were inedible, bar staff no interest or customer service either, such a shame!

Clearly can only cope in Winter quiet seasons

User

I ordered from the vegan menu a tiny tiny vegan pie came with no trimmings, cost £10:50 ish, I had to order chips separately - never ever again.

Had to put up with waiting staff standing behind us loudly talking of going for a wee, then tables next to us being liberally sprayed with cleaner whilst we ate.

They then had the gall to ask if everything was ok

That behaviour shouldn’t be evident in a roadside cafe let alone somewhere charging these prices!

Have been going to this pub for years however when visiting today with my dog was challenged for I.D for a pint ( I'm in my 30's with a full beard) by a jobsworth barmaid, as I live just around the corner returned with my I.d to grab a drink on a nice afternoon. I asked the same barmaid if I may speak to her manager when they had a minute to try and adress this issue, as I felt being asked for I.d a complete insult and victimization by someone clearly younger then myself. I was in the pub a couple of hours and the manager didn't even bother to see me, Disgraceful. To a regular customer as well.
