We visited this evening and I had the most amazing Chicken Jalfrezi Pie (from the meals from £5 menu) and my other half enjoyed his Classic Beef Burger (also from the same menu). It's the only place where our two young boys will clear their plate and get a pudding too!! (Never stop selling mini waffles with the kids meals!!!)

User

Just had our first Christmas dinner out at the RockRose, the food was fantastic, the serving staff were also brilliant, nothing was too much trouble, would definitely like to come again, merry Christmas and thank you for making ours special x

User

I went to the Rock Rose on Saturday with a group of 6 other people. All enjoyed the meal. The service given by James at the bar together with the waiting staff was very good. We did not have to wait long for the seven meals to arrive. All different meals arrived together, the food was hot, plated nicely and very tasty. It seems that since the refurbishment they have upped their game. All in all a very nice evening for a very reasonable price. Well done.

User

Delicious food, great drinks menu, wonderful service and most of all great value for money, would highly recommend to all. X

User

Ohhhh my really had a delicious meal here, service was a little slow, but it was crazy busy. The only real problem I had was lack of drinks menu. I know it's proberbly daft but it would be nice to know what they do while one of you sit at a table while the other puts in the order. I do really advise the Calvery wrap.... I think I may have to share it next time, but ohhhhh my! It was delicious and so succulent and ohhhhhhh my! We will. See you again !

User

We have been to this restaurant a few times but recently when we went there was one table of guests swearing really loudly and the conversation they were having was quite obscene and it was around the children’s area. Not something I have experienced before and I don’t blame the young waiters and waitresses for not intervening but maybe the manager could have got involved. However the food is good and is easy with kids.

User

Very disappointed today when we went here for my nephews 21st to find no cucumber available for children’s carrot and cucumber option, then no banana to go with great grandsons pudding , then ! No vanilla ice cream left , as it was only 5ish when we were there and very quiet we couldn’t believe it, the young man serving and trying to sort it out was doing his very best (well done) but no one explained these problems when we were ordering, and the fact it was very quiet the service time was dreadful , come on marstons surely you can do better !!

User

Food was ok, can’t go to wrong with a fish finger sandwich. The staff were friendly and the service was quick enough!

User

AWFUL CUSTOMER SERVICE!

We used to go a lot when it was the Kittiwake and was our 1st time back, carvarey was nice but not that hot, my complaint is that we waited 50 minutes (from the time on the ticket the second time I asked) for two puddings, a slice of cheese cake and apple pie, after asking 2 people I then asked for a refund as had to get home with my son for bed, my gripe is I spoke to 4 people and not one of them said sorry, even more so the manager who refunded me, after he refunded me I said not one person said sorry for the wait, he just looked at me like I was in the wrong! When they did bring it out it was wrong and we left it Everyone in there looked like they couldn't be arsed

User

Not impressed and not for the 1st time either. Slow service at the bar and food, cold food from kitchen and carvery, over priced drinks, waitress didn't return to me when I asked about my children's meals meaning I had to ask again, then they were brought out last even though requested asap. We had a table to 12 so can see the kids meal compared to adults. They said they were understaffed due to illness but this is a regular occurrence when we've visited. Name change and new interior but same service. Shame. Will travel a bit down the motorway next time.

User

Would rate it lower than 1 if I could. Service was bad, lady manager was rude, they was so busy gave us a table but had to be out by half 3. So ordered ours and kids dinner at 2.09 kids dinner had come and been eaten, finally got our caverys at 3.20 and rushed it to be finished by half 3. While our kids got bored sitting and waiting... food was cold, they need more staff on the cavery side. Glad we didn’t book a table would still been same result. Advice if you do go their, take a pack lunch for starters while your waiting. A lot of people was complaining of bad services and time waiting. Maybe put more family tables by the play bit, definitely gone down hill from when it was kitty wake.

User

Went there yesterday waited an hour and a half for our meal when it arrived it was nothing like the menu showed I had a lump of pork so over cooked I couldn’t cut it a few dried up parsnips and carrots some kid of mashed up potato with a bit of cabbage in and they hadn’t even bothered to put the apple sauce on the plate and they had charged me 13 25 for the meal I took one look at it and complained and was given a full refund didn’t bother with anything else as we had waited so long anyway so won’t be eating there ever again I am shocked a meal as bad as mine was even served in the first place my partner also didn’t enjoy her meal was just a frozen tasteless veggie burger..... rock rose.....more like the wilted rose!!!!!

User

Second time I have eaten at the rock rose and both times the food has been terrible. Today only one person serving behind the bar (apparently loads of staff members had gone sick) although this one barman was very friendly.

There was 11 of us for dinner and when we arrived the restaurant was not very busy, once we eventually placed our food order we waited one hour before there was any sign of our meals.

We made an request that the children’s meals (chicken nuggets & chips) be brought out first as the children were getting restless having to wait.....this request seemed to fall on deaf ears as the kids meals arrived last.

After the one hour wait the food arrived cold/overcooked.

Already annoyed with the service we decided to make the most of our cold dinners as we could not face another hour wait should we of sent our food back.

You may of given the place a facelift and name change but it’s still the same sub standard food.

You may say “you get what you pay for” which is true but the only requirement I have is that my food arrives at the table hot.

User

Not even worth 1 star! Service and food both appalling. Steak might as well have been charcoal and couldn't even chew it! Kids mash potato was lumpy and tasted disgusting. Vegetables from the carvery were cold, dry and chewy. Messed up our pudding order and staff didn't even apologise or offer to rectify it. Told us one order wasn't on the ticket and gave us a look of disgust for asking them to still bring one out. Not once did anyone ask how our food was. Will definitely not be returning and wouldn't recommend to anybody. Here's a tip - hire some staff that actually give a dam about their customers and start communicating and apologising to people.

User

Most disgusting food I ever had on a plate roast was vile the spuds was cold veg was not cook stuffing was like rubber gravy was tasteless chef was in a bade mood due to manger telling him people was returning food cos it was cold ie veg see the chef poring hot water over cold veg to heat it back up the food was vile desgusting to poor hot water over old food is totally unexpected in moats pubs as your breaching health a safety glass was dirty even a staff member said it look desgusting she was going to 8 bells that said it all to me chef was banging the pots of veg down so hard cos he had a telling off from the manger over cold food spent all that money on a refit and the food is vile desgusting would of bean better going to Tesco cafe who do lovely dinners that you can eat that are hot or the archer pub at the top got outside was sick in the car park was vile desguting

User

Had to wait 45 mins for a dessert, while other tables that ordered after us got theres before us. No one came over to the table after mains and had to flag down a manager who then said they did not have the ticket for the dessert. Yet he remembers taking the order. Well if he remembers the order why not make sure it's sent not leave customers sitting there for nearly an hour wondering wtf is going on.. then he went out the back and what seemed like seconds later there was the dessert.. wtf.. if it took two seconds why the 45 min wait...

User

Disappointed. We are regulars at the pheasant in Ashford and the mayfly in hawkinge but realised we are very spoilt there when we went to the rock rose. We both had steak supposedly medium rare but mine was extremely well done. Chips were totally inedible, tasted like they'd sat around for a long time and the tomato raw and peas so cold they could have been fresh from the fridge. Waitress asked how our meals were but no offer to rectify at all so for the first time we left a restaurant hungry and £24 poorer. Oh and they didn't have any carvery, apparently they run out?? At 12pm in a restaurant which has carvery as the main point on the signage...there was plenty of the previous day's coleslaw and gravy on the menus too. They were Absolutely filthy. Wont be back.

User

Disappointed. Have eaten here many times when it was the kittiwake previously with no problems. Service was very poor. Drinks machine had ran out of flavours. Ice cream machine wasn't working. They got our order wrong, then had to wait watching others eat for mine to arrive. Ran out of cream for dessert, after ordering cream. I'm not usually one to complain but was really not happy at all today. Will not recommended this to others. Avoid.

User

Booked a table, turned up to find a queue at the carvery at least 25 people long. I don't mind waiting, it was busy........but the poor Carvery chef was run ragged ON HIS OWN!! Coping with taking tickets carving meat constantly having to return to the kitchen to refill vegetables, gravy and other sauces. All the time the queue is getting longer!

Terrible organisation by the management.......get the poor bloke some help!! I asked bar staff if there was anyone to help him, only to be told 'its like this every Sunday'!

Won't be returning, and I hope the Carvery chef has the sense to go and work for people that appreciate him.
