We stumbled upon this place by accident, looking for somewhere to grab a drink. This pub was amazing! Great bar food and the hot spiced apple cider and gin was out of this world. The staff were so friendly helpful and welcoming. We were a group of 6 people and every single one of us would return, 5* treatment. The restaurant was fully booked so we assume the main food is as amazing as the bar snacks. The fish fingers butty is something to be seen �

Visited the Ship Tavern on my own while working in London. It is a typical ‘after office’ drinking if pub downstairs. Tucked out of the way behind Holborn underground.

I called on spec for the restaurant, and although it was very busy, they managed to fit me in to a nice corner table. Very atmospheric, with oil lamp on the table. The waiter was, best guess, German, and very friendly.

A very nice pint of Old Peculiar, and a starter of fried Brie wedge, was excellent. Then the special of the day, chicken and leak pie, with mash and veg, was to die for.

Highly recommended, if you can find it

The upstairs restaurant is fabulous, fantastic food and great service. Nice and cosy interior with candlelight and a fireplace, warmed us up on a snowy winter evening.

Superb little hidden gem near Holborn. The food in the upstairs dining room was top quality - and I really mean that. Proper great classic British food done extremely well. I had the trio of welsh lamb which was amazingly good. Service was excellent too. I will definitely be back - and often.

Really nice, fresh, well presented food, with no wait despite being in a party of a dozen walk ins. Excellent range of ales and gin. Girl seemingly running the shift was absolutely fantastic.

Only found this great old pub as part of a tour organised by Liquid History Tours. Great choice of ales and the food is to die for. Had the steak and ale pie. Superb. Worth a visit

One of my favourite London pubs when I worked at the SFO in the ITN Building then Elm House up to seven years ago. Call in still when I'm in the Holborn area. Under the same excellence management for nine years. A large group of us 'took over' the upper room a couple of years ago for a superb lunch. Always beautifully kept cask ales so it's a drinker's pub with excellent food. Rate it very highly.

Loved this pub, tucked away and found by accident! Fabulous array of Gin and Real Ale. The atmosphere was great, so glad we found it. On our next visit to London it will definitely be on our list to return

A real traditional pub selling traditional beers and a fabulous Gin cabinet. During this visit we ate upstairs in the restaurant which was a really treat with a wide range of traditional English favourites cooked and presented very well indeed. A must for all!!!

A beautiful, little gem hidden behind Holborn underground station. Blink and you miss it. 500 year old pub with heaps of character and very reasonably priced drinks. The oak room upstairs offers an amazing dining experience in an atmosphere created by wooden panels, oil lamps and candles. The food is truly amazing - cooked to order - and the value for money is great because the portions are very generous. You are guaranteed to leave something behind! I visited with a large party of 9 last night and only gave fairly short notice to book online. (Booking is recommended). All the food came out at the same time, hot, nicely presented and beautifully cooked. A party for the tastebuds! Staff were friendly and helpful, taking photos of us and having a chat. No review can do The Ship Tavern justice - you just have to try it. Highly recommended. And prepare to be enchanted!

Found this pub yesterday by chance, we really enjoyed the gin selection (several times) but didn't try any of the food but it did look very nice. We will almost certainly go back for dinner and to sample more of wonderful selection of gin. This really is a good old fashioned London tavern so if you're in Holborn you need to pop in.
