When I heard from my girlfriend that its a bit scary I was surprised. During the whole performance she was sticking to me like glue. The performances by the actors were superb, had the audience at the edge of the seat till the very end, might I add there is a lot of humor too, a must watch!

User

What a brilliant show and would highly recommend it. Went today for my 40th Birthday treat and thoroughly enjoyed it. The acting was amazing, very simple set up on stage but that's all it needs.

User

Well where do I begin? Well you see a film or read a book and you wonder how will they adapt it for the stage. Well In this case with Woman in Black I haven`t seen the film so I am viewing this with first eyes like I have done with previous productions at the Palace Theatre.

Two actors lead this play and put in sublime performances. The stage set was basic with rooms and stairwell hidden behind a curtain for when they was needed.

The story begins with the junior solictor Arthur Kipps attending the funeral of a client Alice Drablow in Crythin Gifford a market town but at the funeral all is not as it seems as Arthur sees a figure in the graveyard that opens his curiosity with the villagers reluctance to talk about the mysterious Woman in Black he stays at the abode which links the Woman in Black.

This show has you gripped and on the edge of your seat. A must-see play. Not for the faint-hearted.

User

Watched in Fortune theatre. Absolutely amazing. Seen as a A-level drama group and was blown away. Simplistic set and small theatre really increase the creep factor. Fully entertained, and amazing acting. Would love to see again

User

Two brilliant actors , one mysterious woman ;) , few pieces of furniture and pure imagination of the audience. Two hours of an outstanding performance. I think, the appreciation of such a show is proportional to your imaginary. Brilliant 👏

User

The show last night in Nottingham was amazing. Although i saw the show 6/7 years ago, it still had me on the edge of my seat. It was scarier and more emotional than the last time i saw it, partly due to the great actors involved (my partner and I were pleasently surprised to see Matthew Spencer again, who we saw at the Playhouse in 2015 performing in '1984'). I was also in the second row this time as opposed to the back of the theatre. A brilliant show and one that i have recommended to all my friends. Keep putting on a great show guys!

User

The beginning drags a little bit but it picks up and it's one of the most amazing shows I've ever seen, funny, emotional and has frights! You use your imagination a lot during the play, it's completely different to what I expected but it's incredible! The cast of two give a brilliant performance, just overall brilliant.

User

Me and my friends had such a fantastic time at the show tonight! First of all, the actors had a real stage presence, which can be difficult with a minimal set and only two speaking actors in the entire show! They delivered their lines effortlessly and had me hooked (both laughing and screaming) from the very beginning. Despite what some other people have said in their reviews, I loved the fact that the story was both a play within a play as well as a ghost story. It gave me moments to catch my breath, and forced me to question what was the 'reality' and what wasn't? Overall we had a really great time! The show was scary, the acting was great, and for the price it was really worth it. I also love the intimate and small stage. It only added to the period setting. :) Wonderful job cast and crew! -Allie

I wasn’t sure what to expect when I sat down and saw the sparsely furnished stage, with little more than a basket, a couple of chairs and a coat rack, but the skill with which the tiny cast bring to life this story is incredible.

You can’t help but compare it to the movie version, with it’s massive sets and open scenery but this tiny stage show really surpasses the experience of watching the film.

Great acting and clever techniques make this a brilliant experience.

The only minor issue was the legroom in the dress circle but this is to be expected in such a small theatre.

This didn’t even come close to ruining the experience of watching this amazing show though.

User

Have just returned from watching this with my 15 year old daughter. We both loved it. It's a proper old fashioned play - you have to listen and use your imagination and then you are hooked. It's creepy more than scary and because the theatre is so small it's like you are there in the house with other guests. The acting was superb. Don't go expecting it to be like the film it's the stage version using minimal props and two actors plus the mysterious lady in black. Enjoyable evening.

User

Didn't know what to expect with this show as I had heard that it was a horror and I normally don't do horrors, though I have to say this was an excellent show the two actors managed to keep the audiences attention through out the entire show, I have to admit I was frightened at a few parts though good frightened, I would definitely recommend this show to others x

User

Can not understand the odd bad review. Absolutely brilliant in its simplicity. No need for flashy props, the incredible acting makes the imagination come alive. One of the best shows I've seen. Just brilliant.

User

Absolutely brilliant. Wasn't sure what to expect when we realised there were only TWO main people in the cast BUT we were definitely NOT disappointed. i would quite happily go again, if only because I would now be more aware of what to expect. Great acting and superb special effects. Add the welcome response from the door, ticket and bar staff and you have the perfect venue.

User

Very well played. The story was not so exciting though. Never seen The Woman in black before, so I can't compare. I was more disappointed by the theatre, it's so that you can hear the audience sometimes better than the actors, and lots of people were eating and drinking during the play and much too often laughing, which is healthy but disrupts the atmosphere.

User

I went with very high expectations as my husband saw The Woman in London a few years ago and raved about it. However the first half hour or so left him wondering if we were in the right play! Kipps seemed more of a buffoon than a man at the edge of his sanity and the humour was really overcooked (not helped by a lot of the audience laughing heartily along). Post-intermission things improved but the atmosphere was never created for us because of the skipping between actually telling young Kipps' tale and the oddly hammy scenes between older Kipps and The Actor. The transition in the attitude and affect of The Actor from sceptical and light to emotionally invested was too abrupt and couldn't rescue the damage to the sense of fear that should have been built. If you've see a darker version, you may be disappointed!

User

Worst theatre show ever, thought I'd like it as I love the film but it's truly a disgrace to the film. There's only two actors and overall it's a low budget show. Tickets are overpriced and really wasn't worth it. Such a waste of time seeing this.

User

Went and just watched this show at Covent Garden, we left at the interval it was embarrassing to watch, the actors was good but the story line was just wrong, and hardly any props and the old bloke was being a narrator though the show. Honestly worst sound effects and show ever.

User

Waste of time.. and money the worst thing I've ever seen. left half way through totally disappointed

User

I booked this , for me and my lovely partner, and I’ve seen the film , but this was utter shit , good actors but the price of tickets, well fuck me im a cunt for spending the money, biggest load of shit I’ve ever seen, needs a bigger stage more actors and money invested
