Thanks to everyone who joined us last night for the opening of our new shows, including our two painters Andrew Marr (left) and Adrian Hemming (right) whose work is now on display as part of our exhibition ‘Adrian Hemming & Andrew Marr: Fragments & Drawings’ (1st - 23rd February).
First introduced through their love of painting and leading to a friendship that Andrew has described as 'both wonderful luck and a lifeline', Adrian and Andrew first started working together as mentor and mentee before beginning to exhibit together in their first joint show two years ago. This exhibition marks their third joint show and showcases new developments in the work of both artists.
Don’t miss the opportunity to see these harmonious new collections, also coming to our website very soon.

You are warmly invited to join us for the opening of a highly anticipated new collection of abstract, textured ceramics by Elly Wall.
Through intuitive manipulation of the clay and mark making, Elly exploits its material qualities while maintaining a simple, considered form. Wanting to maintain the freshness and rawness of the material, Elly works quickly, incorporating the unexpected or making spontaneous decisions along the way.
The evening will also mark the opening of a joint exhibition of paintings by Adrian Hemming and Andrew Marr titled 'Drawings and Fragments'.

Thrown is proud to present 'Fragments & Drawings', a joint exhibition of drawings and paintings by Adrian Hemming and Andrew Marr.
First introduced through their love of painting and leading to a friendship that Marr has described as 'both wonderful luck and a lifeline', Hemming and Marr first started working together as mentor and mentee before beginning to exhibit together in their first joint show two years ago.
This exhibition marks their third joint show and will showc...ase new developments in the work of both artists.

Adrian Hemming on 'Fragments': 'These Fragments have been rescued from larger watercolours and then reworked. I love the idea that a whole mountain or seascape can be reduced to a tiny three-inch square. One set is influenced by the landscape of the Maiella National Park, Italy. The other set, Cote de Nord, Jersey. Watercolour is at the same time, fluid brilliant and intractable and for me these fragments illustrate these virtues.'
Andrew Marr on 'Drawings': "All art constantly aspires to the condition of music." That was what Walter Pater thought and you can see what you meant, although it's a little deflating for those of us who draw and paint. My art and in particular my drawing aspires more to an apparent oxymoron - serious play. I think there should be something unrehearsed, joyous and unexpected about good drawing - lolloping along after the line, wherever it leads, letting the wrist and fingers follow the unconscious. In my most recent drawings I am taking a very traditional subject, acrobats and magicians, for pictures which reflect moods and mental atmospheres.'

We hope you can join us for our first private view of 2019 which will also celebrate the launch of a new collection of ceramics by Elly Wall.

It’s somehow already the final day of the London Art Fair. Thanks to the fair team for using an image of our stand to flag up the brand new ‘Platform’ section of the fair that we’re proud to be part of, highlighting the under represented art form of ceramics.

We’ll be back in the gallery this Friday and Saturday, 11am-6pm, giving you the opportunity to come and see our Winter Collection without the time stress of the Christmas rush.
The show runs until Saturday 26th January and welcomes several new artists to the gallery - some glimpses into what’s to come this year - including the exquisite, minimal bowls and beakers of Becky Mackenzie (in image).
After this weekend, the gallery will be closed for one more week (from Tuesday 15th-Sunday 20th January) due to our involvement in the London Art Fair 2019 and then we will be back again as usual (Tues-Sat, 11am-6pm). All of our opening hours have been updated online to reflect this but, if you are planning a trip don’t hesitate to get in touch beforehand to confirm.

I feel like a big part of the joy in what we do is due to people - supporting and encouraging our artists' practices and introducing people to their work is what we love to do.
We wanted to put together a slideshow of some of the many, many highlights of this year to share with you all before we sign off for a few days to spend some quality time with family and friends. Facebook would only let us do so with 10 photographs so, to help us decide, we decided to focus these image...s on the people that have so incredibly supported us this year - whether artists, visitors, the fabulous (obviously) Fabulous698B and friends who have stepped in to help.
These 10 images made us smile a lot and we hope it does the same to you.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all!

We were established in March of this year in response to the current uprising of ceramics within contemporary art. Fascinated by this age of alternative mediums, the gallery seeks out distinctive contemporary art in its many forms with a particular focus on the creativity currently turning to clay.
It’s extremely exciting to have been asked to take part in a talk at London Art Fair this January about this very subject - ceramics place within contemporary art. It’s a subject t...hat I find endlessly fascinating and I am looking forward to the opportunity to sit and really put together my thoughts.
Join myself, gallery artist Tom Kemp and director of Maak Contemporary Ceramics Marijke Varrall-Jones at the London Art Fair on Saturday 19th January, 5.15pm, as we discuss the topic ‘A new canon in fine art? Redefining and collecting ceramics’, chaired by Isobelle Bolt from Artsy.
You can register your interest for this talk via this link: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/a-new-cano n-in-fine-art-rede…

Due to popular demand, we have added a small collection of new pieces to our Winter Collection including three more London Slip Spotted Yunomis by Joseph Ludkin.
There has, deservedly, been such a strong response to Joseph's first collection in the gallery, with almost every piece selling in the first two weeks.
View his new pieces as well as new work by Tom Crew, Tim Lake, The Leach Pottery and Emma Mackenzie on our website now:

PLESAE NOTE, tonight at midnight is the deadline for orders for guaranteed delivery to any mainland UK address before Christmas (which is also free for any orders over £100).

It’s been a real pleasure to see the reaction to our current Winter Collection both in the gallery and through our website.
In the gallery, we have filled our shelves, plinths and walls with affordable, original works by over 30 different artists and makers. It’s wonderful to see people taking the time to really look at everything, inspecting every group of work and delighting in the individuality.
You can plan a show thinking about how you would respond and how you would l...ike people to respond but I swear every time, with how individually everyone reacts, the response and the stories that come with this are always better.
We are open every day except Mondays on the run up to Christmas: 11am-6pm Tuesday-Saturday, 11am-5pm Sunday.
Or view our winter collection in our special new online shop: https://www.throwncontemporary.co.uk/wint er2018

The natural light that usually floods into our gallery drops so early at the moment. Taking photographs with this beautiful diffused light has only been possible at very particular times of day and things have been so busy that we keep seeming to blink and miss it.
This photograph of Alma Berliner's new collection of vessels (including those exquisite new miniature vessels that we could post about forever) was taken just as our gallery lights were starting to take over, giving a wonderful mix of shadows that both show off the strong lines in Alma’s altered forms and their soft, chalky finish.
See Alma's full collection (featuring those wonderful miniature vessels that we might just have mentioned before) on our website: https://www.throwncontemporary.co.uk/alma berliner

A true artist, John Pollex's use of colour demonstrates a creative eye that I swear you just have to be born with. The abstract nature of his work mixed with their 3D forms results in dynamic paintings that are unique from every single angle.
View John’s available work in our current Winter Collection (30th Nov 18 - 27th Jan 19) and on our website via: https://www.throwncontemporary.co.uk/john -pollex
