We reserved a large table for New year's day a few months ago, unfortunately they lost our reservation!...however, we were accommodated and the staff were extremely apologetic, we had a fantastic table and the meal was Devine!..we attend this venue for our family get together and will be doing so for a good few years to come...Thanks to all the staff, who during a very busy period, made our New Year xx Happy New year to you all and may it be a prosperous one for you xx

Every time we come we have the feeling of a great country pub. My wife and i usually go adhock as we are nt pub goers. The bar staff are always pleasant and cheerful. We hadnt reserved a table but just had a drink at first. Was told kitchen was on last orders. We had the Farmhouse pate meal before so asked the waiter would it be possible to have one

He was so good and asked. They really made our night by doing it for us. We are fairly regular and always had good service from the staff. Highly recommend for a wuiet peaceful drink in pleasant surroundings.

User

5 star service all round thank you for a lovely lunch and great service

User

Was not very busy. Sat outside and had great meal. Friendly staff.

User

Sat in garden but tables and chairs very tired . Had the roast dinner which was very nice but not perfect. I had 3 meat roast. Beef and pork were fairly tastless and tough Turkey was nice but could have been warmer. And although I like my veg not over cooked the veg was almost raw. So to sum up I have been a regular at Chef and brewer both here and in Ash Vale Hampshire and this is the 1st time I have been disappointed the food was still of good quality just needed a little more care. I didn't complain as, as a nurse I was due on night shift so I needed to get home to rest

User

Lovely atmosphere and staff very friendly . Food nice and great value .

User

Enjoyed the food, beer was good, good service

User

Was very busy Sunday afternoon. We had booked for 2.30 and they didn't have room in the restaurant so we had our meal in bar area . That wasn't a problem . The roast was nice , only 2 roast potatoes though & a soggy Yorkshire 😩 Thought it was expensive for what we had !

User

Waitress was lovely, great service but the batter on my fish was so over cooked I was unable to eat it, disappointed as usually the food is pretty good

User

Had better service and food here. Waga burger Greece salmon dry. Chips cold . I know it’s Monday but come on

User

Big family do last Wednesday. Under another new manager, they have certainly upped their game, with more efficient staff and far better organisation. Thank you, great to see it, as it’s always been a great setting for pub grub. Let’s hope it continues to improve, as over the last couple of years, the prices have risen considerably and the whole attitude, service and quality of the place has been in decline.

User

A lunch time visit for a catch up with old friends. Not enough staff. Waited too long to order food, too long for it to be cleared, had to go and find someone so we could pay the bill. One of the 'new' items on the menu, fish goujon sandwich could have been nice but the bread was so massively thick actually couldn't get it in my mouth. Ridiculous! Also the hand battered goujons inside were watery and tasteless. Big disappointment. Food used to be lovely here now I'd say it was mediocre.

User

The miserable Scottish women behind the bar ruined it. Asked for a medium dry sherry she poured a sweet one. “It’s the only sherry we have.”

Sorry, but Mum doesn’t like sweet sherry. A G&T please. “Which gin?” Gordon’s please. “Just a Gordon’s?” Er, yes please. “Nobody has Gordon’s”.

And not having acknowledged my request for a packet of S&V crisps, she bit my head off for me reminding her as she started to tot up on the till.

So rude. I’m off to the Crown next time!

User

Sadly we didn’t have a very good experience here at lunchtime today. Our waiter was friendly enough but they seemed understaffed. Table of 5 & our food didn’t all come out together with no acknowledgement of this or apology. Food was very average & not very hot. The soup my friend had was watery. I was looking forward to the crumble for dessert but it wasn’t available. The Waiter asked for any comments after but I don’t think they were taken on board. He also asked if we would be returning next week; definitely not. Such a shame.

User

Table of 15 of us went on Saturday. Food was lovely, service was terrible!

One waiter was nice & helpful.

The other was blatantly rude. Woman behind the bar was also rude.

If it wasn’t for the staff we would go back. But because of their terrible attitudes, we won’t be.
