The busy season here at the Hospital has certainly begun, last Wednesday we rescued and/or admitted a total of 89 animals!
Wow! Within this number were 9 hedgehogs (4 babies), a grass snake, two pipistrelle bats, a red kite, a green woodpecker, a housemartin, a swift and a swallow.
Here’s what to do if you are worried about an animal or bird: https://www.sttiggywinkles.org.uk/bot…/ animal-emergency.html
... Ps. the little bead on the hedgehogs' spine is a temporary ID marker so we know who is who in the litter of babies.

After a roasting hot Sunday working hard on their Keeper Experience at Tiggywinkles, what better way to help these little hedgehogs cool down than give them some swimming lesson / physiotherapy. One of the little ones was a pretty champion swimmer and did a lot of laps, so it is really helping him build up the strength in his legs before he goes for release. A huge thank you to all of our lovely keepers, who worked with a smile, despite the heat!

User

During this hot weather you can help wildlife by putting out a dish of water during the day and evening - it can be a life-saver. Thank you!

User

A huge thank you to everyone at 1a Churchill Avenue Children's Home! We have just received this amazing hamper from them, full to the brim of essentials from our wanted list. Thank you all for your kind support from all the animals and staff at Tiggywinkles, you are stars! 🤗

User

This is brilliant! Thank you so much Chris, we look forward to seeing a giant hedgehog run a 5k inflatable obstacle run!

User

We’ve got lots of gorgeous little fox cubs in at the moment, however they do have quite the appetite! We are running low on tins of cat food (lots of the cubs prefer cat to dog food as it’s smaller and easier for them to eat!). If anyone has any tinned cat food they could drop over to us it would be hugely appreciated! Any flavour or type is fine; all cat food will have small enough chunks for even the youngest cubs to tuck in to. Thank you so much for the help!
Ps. If you aren’t local to us in Haddenham, HP17 8AF, we do have some on our Amazon Wishlist 😊 http://amzn.eu/9ree05R

User

We had a brilliant volunteer group in from Elsevier Oxford yesterday! Thanks so much for all the hard work getting our cub pens ready - they look great!

Look at this amazing grass snake we took in earlier this week; she is so beautiful and very feisty too!
She was collected by one of our lovely volunteer rescuers after she had got caught in netting over a pond. It appears she had gone into the pond to catch frogs, then got tangled when she tried to get back out – as you can see from the photo, she had clearly had a good meal, hence not being able to get back through the net!
She is a good size for a grass snake and in lovely... condition, so had obviously been thriving in the area before this accident. Luckily, after a thorough veterinary examination she seemed to have escaped any injuries – with not even a single damaged scale.
This meant our volunteer was able to take her straight back home (the homeowner was very sad to see what had happened and the netting has been removed to make sure it is safe for snakes & other wildlife).
What a privilege for us to get to help such an amazing animal, let’s hope she settles in well back home in the wild.

Our recent Keeper Experience went well, with the team helping out with the hedgehogs and owls, making up food for various patients; as well as getting to see the badgers, deer and birds - plus a behind the scenes tour round the hospital, all ably hosted by our very own Jo.

User

It looks like we are in for a warm bank holiday weekend. Please help the wildlife in your garden by keeping a dish of fresh water topped up for them. Thank you!

These two gorgeous badger cubs were very sadly found alongside their dead mum. The little sisters were fortunately discovered by a concerned member of the public who knew they needed help, so brought them in for us to care for. They are both very bright, lively and into everything - within minutes of their enclosure being cleaned they will have turned it upside down again, playing and investigating the new smells! We are very hopeful for their future as they go from strength to strength.

User

We don’t see many of these special little birds, this is a male blackcap – a member of the warbler family. This poor boy was caught by a cat. Fortunately, he did not receive any serious injuries. However, even a small puncture wound from a cats’ claw or tooth can cause a serious infection, so he had to have antibiotics to prevent any problems. Now he’s finished his treatment, he is very bright, lively and off for release! Good luck back in the wild little one.

Volunteers needed!
We are looking for volunteer foster carers to look after orphaned baby wild mammals in your own home.
Full training and support is given and all equipment provided; however you will need to be available most of the time.
... All volunteer fosterers need to be over the age of 21 and must live within 30 minutes drive of the hospital (and have your own transport). We want to minimise the travelling time for these vulnerable wild babies. You will need to be able to collect the baby mammals and equipment.
For more information and an application form please see: https://www.sttiggywinkles.org.uk/top-nav …/…/volunteers.html

Wonderful place. My daughters were so inspired by the kindness and dedication of the staff. A great education for us all.

User

We really enjoyed our visit to your charming establishment! The staff showed their dedication to the care and welfare of vulnerable poorly animals. My 7 year old Grandson Harrison really enjoyed the talk on Hedgehogs, and the Keeper really displayed his knowledge and affection towards these delightful little creatures, and showed us Bob the Hedgehog much to Harrison's delight! The animals are looked after beautifully and it was lovely walking through the attractively set-out gardens. Your staff are very friendly, informative and helpful! We will definitely recommend our family and friends to visit Tiggywinkles and we would love to see you again very soon!

User

We have just brought in a baby wild rat (pup). He couldn’t of been no older then 2weeks. Absolutely lovely assistant on the late shift till 8pm. Our hearts now can be at ease knowing he’s in good hands. Thank you xx

User

We did the Keeper Experience with the formidableJo. She was so interesting and gave us an amazing morning, including taking a hedgehog for a swim! Everyone was delightful and we got a real sense of how the organisation works. Such a great time was had by all 5 of us!

User

Was a great morning out. My grandchildren loved it. They loved the talks on the animals we listened to the polecats and the hedgehogs. Even I learnt things I didn’t know about hedgehogs. Staff are extremely friendly and welcoming and even when they were busy still find time to have a small chat with everyone. Craft activities basic but the grandchildren loved them and for free couldn’t complain. Loved it would go again. Would suggest if they could find a way of getting a cafe on site they would make a killing there just something to think about not sure where you would put it but I think it would make a difference xxxxxxx

User

Visit regularly with my grandchildren.....the youngest one, two and a bit loves it ....as does her brother now five. We always get a warm welcome , all the staff are extremely friendly and helpful.

It really helps them even at their young age to appreciate the wildlife around them and to look after what we have.

The play and picnic area is great also !!

User

Today I rescued an injured deer and phone the hospital. They were so helpful and has a driver coming around to pick it up. I raise funds for shelter dogs and in our auction, this month what we raise a donation will certainly be given to Tiggywinkles.

User

Thank you so much for taking the badly injured magpie that we found last Thursday a friend dropped the bird off. I don't know if there was any chance of saving the poor bird

but comforting to know they were in safe caring hands after their ordeal.

User

Thank you so much Tiggywinkles to the lovely lady that travelled for an hour to my house to collect a baby injured Robin. I am truly thankful that this beautiful bird will receive the best care and hope he is strong enough to survive x

User

Such a lovely place to visit. An easy walk over a field and through a village from Haddenham and Thame Parkway. So happy that a hospital like this exists to care for the long term needs of disabled animals who can’t return to the wild.

User

Just dropped all of our ‘out of date’ bandages & stock to George from Tiggywinkles Wildlife Hospital for them to make good use of. Hope it is of help, & assist you to continue to provide such a great service.

I had just the most amazing 'wildlife keeper' experience there yesterday. I was one of 5 people and Jo was the staff member who led it. She was just so knowledgable and passionate about her job. We got to see all areas of the hospital, hadn't realised how vast it was. We saw hedgehogs, owls, deer, fox cubs, badger cubs, every type of bird and even took a hedgehog for a swim. We cleaned out the tawny owl cage, we prepared sandwiches and meat balls for the badgers and just learnt so much. Please support this incredible place and if you ever get a chance to go on keeper experience day- please do. You will not be disappointed. I'm in awe of everyone there. 😃

User

Had a wonderful day here with my almost 2 year old, we learnt so much and loved seeing the baby birds being fed and the hedgehogs You do a fantastic job.

User

Fantastic wildlife experience with the incredibly knowledgeable Jo and 4 other people. Great morning spent looking after and learning about all the patients they had in the hospital wing. Lots of beautiful hedgehogs some just a few days old Fox cubs and Badgers along with every bird I can think of including Ravens Buzzards and Owls that are being rehabilitated ready to go back to the wild. Amazing day highly recommend. The work these people do behind the scenes is second to none. Just wonderful.

User

Every time we visit Tiggywinkles it restores our faith in people! The team at Tiggywinkles do amazing work with vulnerable animals all of whom look very happy to be there. It is such a wholesome experience and a wonderfully peaceful place, long may it continue its good work!

User

A lovely place to visit. My little boy is 15 months and he loved it. The pool was his favourite - he was mesmerised by all the birds and ducks. Would definitely visit again
