COOL TIPPY HEADS SEAL 3-1 WIN OVER COLO
Tippy Athletic 3 Colo Juniors 1
For the second week running, Tippy defeated a team from the 1st Division to end the Cup Group with 9 points from four games.
... There had been some concerns before the game that Colo Juniors could have been a reformed version of Boca Seniors, who forced our game against them to be abandoned last season. The teams were different but the tactics the same; fouls, contesting every decision and trying to wind up Tippy players.
Unlike previous games this season Tippy started well and Rob G sliced over the bar from a corner on 5 minutes. On 8 minutes Joe J played Henry in, who rounded the keeper only for a defender to get back to clear off the line. On 10 minutes we saw Colo's secret weapon: an awesome long throw from least 30 yards out pinged straight into the 6 yard box. Older readers would have been reminded of Ian Hutchinson.
On 18 minutes Ashley set up Samir who shot just wide. On 25 minutes Ashely again crossed this time for Chris to head just wide. On 29 minutes Colo got their first yellow card for another bad foul. On 37 minutes a miss hit (or inspired pass?) from Joe J played in Samir who finished calmly to put Tippy up 1-0 at half time.
Colo came out strongly in the second half and forced a string of fine saves from Charlie. Joe J was given a yellow card for a foot up tackle but even this didn't calm Colo and a minute later the ref's patience finally ran out with the number 14 and he saw a second yellow after another ugly foul. Joe R came on for Chris and within 2 minutes his free kick left Henry with a tap in to make it 2-0 on 58 minutes. On 64 minutes Henry forced a great save from the keeper following a cross from Freddy. Colo got two quick yellows and were very fortunate to find a ref reluctant to show more red.
On 78 minutes Colo's long throw finally produced a goal, with a disputed tap in at the far post. Henry' header made in 3-1 on 85 minutes.
Alex, Kieran and Eddie kept calm at the back as their forward was intent on winding them up in a desperate attempt to even up the numbers.
On 88 minutes Ashley went just wide and that was the last chance in a tempestuous match where every Tippy player showed great maturity in the face of unwarranted provocation.

TIPPY WARM-UP FOR NEW SEASON WITH WIN OVER SWANS
Tippy Athletic 4 Escaped Swans 2
The pitch was hard and bumpy, we had not played together as a team for three months, and it still feels like the middle of summer, but Tippy hit that hard ground running on Wednesday evening with a well-worked 4-2 win over Escaped Swans, our first and last pre-season friendly before the real thing kicks off on Saturday.
... Although it was only an hour-long match, and both sides looked a little rusty at first, we produced enough good football over the two 30-minute periods to give us real hope that we can have an even more successful season than last year and achieve our goals of, at the very least promotion, but ideally the title.
Escaped Swans were the first top division team we beat when we scored a 3-2 cup victory over them last October, and we proved successful against them again tonight with two goals from Henry, one from Joey Ridgeway and one from Ashley. We play them again in our Cup group at Tooting on September 15 and there is no doubt they will be more than eager to avenge these two defeats against us.
But they know they are in for an uphill climb. Some of our play tonight was excellent with some very good passing moves starting from the back where Rik Fijten introduced himself with a great debut performance which included a stunning trap on his chest and a blistering cross-field pass that split the Swans open and almost led to our opening goal in a move which ended with Joe J firing just over the bar.
But our superiority told after 22 minutes when another fine passing move ended with Joey Ridgeway firing in with a deflected shot before Henry opened his account for the season with a typically unstoppable shot three minutes later. We let them back in to the game just before halftime when Mr Kieran Allen, as he did last year, conceded a penalty against the Swans, this time for a bizarre sky high handball which allowed the Swans to go in 2-1 down.
They pulled level early in the second half to make it 2-2 but we fought back well with Ashley cracking in the third with a trademark angled drive, before Henry broke through and gave the goalie no chance to wrap up the scoring.
It was great to see Samir back in our colours — even if it was our red, second kit — and great to be back playing again. We kickoff the new season against Tawheed in the Group Cup on Saturday and as our trainer Josh said afterwards: “I was very very impressed with that performance given the circumstances. Its obvious you have a very good team and some very good players and if you believe in yourselves you can go all the way.’ Lets prove him right starting on Saturday.
Goals: Joey Ridgeway 22nd, Henry 25th, Ashley 46th, Henry 50th
Team (with rolling subs): Charlie, Rik, Kieran, Webbo, Rob, Ashley, Ryan, Joey R, Freddie, Henry, Joe J; , Samir, Tumen

HENRY VOTED TIPPY’s PLAYER OF THE SEASON
Henry Foster was voted Tippy Athletic’s Player of the Season in a close-run battle with Joe Jackson and Alex Wells, chairman Roger Tiplady announced at the Tippy Athletic Fundraiser at The Bedford pub in Balham on Saturday.
Henry, who has scored 45 goals this season, finished ahead of the poll conducted among the players, with Joe Jackson, on 33 goals, second and Alex Wells, who has been outstanding in defence all season, finishing i...n third place.
With one match to play, Henry is also the winner of the Tippy Golden Boot, as Joe is unavailable to play in our last match of the season in a month’s time.
Henry has scored six hat-tricks or better this season, including six against Tawheed, two five-goal hauls and one four, but Joe J established a new individual club scoring record by cracking seven against AC Matalan in our 9-2 win in February.
Alex has been outstanding at the back and as Chairman Roger said on Saturday, “Anyone who can give away a penalty and an own goal in the same game and still be named as the Man of the Match by the referee is a pretty special player.” We think they were about the only two mistakes he made all season by the way
Freddy Vanson, who has made 27 appearance this season, more than any other player, was voted Most Improved Player of the Season.
Although Henry and Alex were not able to collect their awards in person last night, the Fundraiser was a fantastic success, raising enough money to keep us in half-time oranges next season, as well as covering most of the rest of our running costs. We can now also afford some Extra Large shirts next season and we might buy some new shorts too !
On a fantastic night, former Chelsea captain Paul Elliott, now on the FA’s managing committeee, made a superb speech about his own involvement with grass roots football and how important clubs like ours are. He also presented the awards and absolutely loved his evening, and wants to keep a continued close eye on our development.
Well done everyone for a great season and a great night !
Onwards and Upwards
Mike
