About Trafalgar Tavern

A local landmark & favourite of Charles Dickens situated on the banks of the Thames. Built in 1837, this Grade 1 listed venue serves local food & drinks.

Trafalgar Tavern Description

In Victorian London there was one pub that represented the best of Britain’s naval might and cultural standing. A place where William Gladstone and Charles Dickens could be seen dining side-by-side. An oasis away from the industrial sprawl, but yet at the centre of an Empire. Exactly 170 years later the Trafalgar Tavern still stands in the Greenwich Maritime World Heritage Site, and it remains one of London’s most essential public houses

We had our wedding day on 29/03 and I would like to thanks Trafalgar Tavern stuff for the great service ! Food and drinks were amazing and all our guests enjoyed a lot. If you looking for a special place for your special day, Trafalgat Tavern is that place ! MR & MRS PETROV

User

Thank you guys for having us. My hubby 51st birthday meal was delish. All 8 of us enjoyed x

User

Such lovely day to be by the river in the sun. The Trafalgar such a great place for a drink and Lush location. Thanks!

User

Great place to eat and chill on a warm Saturday afternoon

User

Great place great food and drink fantastic views of the river!

User

Considering how busy they were, (and it was pretty relentless), it was also a sunny, warm Sunday afternoon and there were 5 of us without a reservation we were really pleased. The food was good, a fair price for London and our 5 different meals came out together and were hot and very nice. The staff were very good, again considering how manic it was, they kept their composure and were quite pleasant and efficient. Ordering from the bar was no problem and the three ales they had on were great. It is also a lovely building and our American guests loved it.

User

We spent most of our late teens/early twenties here back in the late 90’s. Always a great time, great location, great staff. Went back for a visit for nostalgias sake. It’s pretty different, but not in a bad way. Same awesome location, and a patio expansion that is great. Fresh paint and new bathrooms brings it up to date. Much brighter and lighter than the old days. Really nice spot. Was fun to go back. Food was not bad, never was the greatest but ok for pub grub. Good selection of beers. Good atmosphere. A good Greenwich staple.

User

Loved the setting , right on the Thames with the most fabulous views

Service was good and the menu was varied with very good choices

We had Fish and chips, Corn fed grilled chicken , home made beef burgers and Sirloin steak ; the desserts were delicious too

Prices were not the cheapest and reflected the Trafalgar Tavern's good food and setting

User

I always enjoy my time at the Trafalgar Tavern. Yesterday was great sitting outside in the sun enjoying the veggie sharing platter with a friend. Pity the skin on chips were very thin and completely overcooked. Probably should have said something at the time. Not put off, though. I will be back.

User

Had reservations for 7 which was no problem, waitress’s were nice and smiled. Guy who took our order was not well versed with the menu (possible the manager) and he never smiled. But food was hot and very tasty we enjoyed ourselves. Nice ambiance

User

Only had drinks so can’t comment on the food, but what we saw coming out looked nice enough, lovely sitting in the sun by the river, would go back

User

Nice to sit outside and enjoy the sunshine & the view, not so impressed with the food....

User

Lovely place and nice staff but only one vegetarian meal. Shame.

User

Have been there twice food always good lovely roaring fire staff friendly but bit expensive

User

Because is situated at the strategic position on the Greenwich river path ( walk ) this pub has Prime position . The views on river Thames of the Greenwich pier and Canary Wharf and O2 are breathtaking from the outside area of this pub and this is the only think I will recommend it for - the river views . Using the potential of this prime position they have utilised every inch on the walking pat by putting a lot of wooden benches and tables outside . That’s is what attracts the most about this place . The landmark location and the bronze statue of Sir Nelson give the epic British pub character of this place . Also the Georgian architecture of the actual building and the sarowndings of the old Naval College next to it make it seems even more authentic. They’ve done recent update on inside and looks great with the new decor also picture perfect with the appropriate periodic style and character . Unfortunately the service is always slow it seem they are running this business very understaffed and the few people working there are just not as professional as it should be in a landmark place like this .

Food is ok but the usual pup menu without many options and kind of poorly presented when served and very overpriced. Drinks are basic like a small pub menu and not a great wine selection or cocktails.

So just for a drink to admire the sunset and the river views this place is great but kind of pricey.

We can not recommend it for any food because is too pricey and not a good value for money. Other than that rather splash the cash on beer and enjoy the views :)

User

Ordered a burger and chips waiting for more than an hour. Bar staff trying hard but way to few people serving. Relies on location and views but food and level of service really poor

User

Celebrated my nans 80th birthday here today, there was a party of 10 of us and It wasn't particularly busy. Service was so slow, took forever to receive our drinks and even longer to get our food, food was luke warm by the time we received it. Staff were pretty rude and not a smile in sight, not good in an industry that requires good customer service skills. Concidering it's not the cheapest place to eat, Over all we left feeling disappointed by the whole experience and won't waste our time or money making a 2nd visit. Wouldn't

recommend to anyone.

User

Stood there waiting to be seated for over 5 minutes. Many waiters/waitresses making eye contact and walking past us but ignoring us. We spoke to two members of staff who barely acknowledged us and we still didn't get seated. The guy I asked even said 'oh are you waiting yo be seated?' no mate, I love standing by a podium in the middle of a pub with a sign on it that says 'please wait to be seated'.

Ordered a burger and chips waiting for more than an hour. Bar staff trying hard but way to few people serving. Relies on location and views but food and level of service really poor
