About True Traveller

True Traveller - Travel Insurance designed by Travellers.

The True Traveller is a specialist travel insurance company who provide cover for adventure travellers and backpackers.

True Traveller Description

The True Traveller was set up in 2010 by three travellers who first met each other when they all worked for a very well-known travel company in Earls Court, London in the late 1980’s. All three eventually went their separate ways but came back together to set up The True Traveller which was again a travel company specialising in adventure holidays.

At the time of setting up the holiday company, they knew the importance of having really good insurance, as if you’re travelling to Mera Peak in Nepal or travelling overland through Africa, your average high street insurance may not be sufficient. So, as well as doing the adventure holidays, they also set up their own insurance scheme.

Time went on, and the demand for the travel insurance by far exceeded the demand for the holidays, so in 2012 the insurance side was split from the original website to sit on its own dedicated website. The insurance side grew and grew so the decision was made to close down the holiday side of The True Traveller in 2014.

So, essentially we’re travel people who just happen now to be insurance people, but we think of ourselves as travellers. That’s why we called the company The True Traveller, and that’s why our strapline is "Travel Insurance designed by travellers for travellers".

It really only takes two minutes to listen to the safety briefing! Good on Air New Zealand (and how do you get the exit row anyway?)

If you think having kids is going to stop you travelling, think again! As this mum found, maternity leave on the road with your new travel companion and family is an excellent way to bond and continue globetrotting!

For our student backpackers and their parents, True Traveller featured an article in the National Association of Student Money Matters magazine 2019, where we talk about the importance of taking travel insurance when you're on your gap year or semester abroad. . . . flick to page 85 ;)

We insure thousands of travellers every year who set off to explore the world, and it's great when we hear about their adventures and travel-versary celebrations! Congrats Whereto360 🎉

We all like to think we know everything there is about flying commercial aircraft (well one person here does anyway), but here's a nice little snippet from those fine fellows at Virgin Atlantic. No one here knew anything about Macassar oil though!

We've never been huge fans of people doing their own thing when it comes to trekking to Everest Base Camp, and we'd usually recommending using established international operators like G Adventures or Exodus Travels.
However, if you really want to do it on your own, the bloggers at Nomada How Far - Travel Blog have put together a really very good guide to doing it on your own, warning of the risks of Acute Mountain Sickness, and recommending TT for your insurance. So, what's not to like?

We think we get some strange requests sometimes, but they're nothing on what the ForeignOffice Embassies, High Commissions and Consulates get across the world every day. I thought you could find out about Strictly faster on the BBC website anyway!

Your luggage is delayed, or the airline’s lost it? What can you do! Well, you can in some cases claim on your travel insurance, but the airline themselves are responsible! It's happened to us all (well me a few times), but Michael from Bemused Backpacker has put together an outstanding piece on what you should do.
It's well worth a read!

You’ve probably heard anyway, but Iceland, the frozen foods store and not the country, had their Christmas TV advert banned because it breaches political advertising rules, as it was produced by Greenpeace.
We have a link for the advert below, and it’s very thought provoking and worth a look. It also reminds us of what we should do when we’re away exploring other countries; only take photo’s and only leave footprints.
