Ucl Film & Tv Society Description

The UCL Film & TV Society has been a forum for both cinema lovers and emerging filmmakers at University College London since 1948. FilmSoc offers an exciting range of film-related activities open to all levels of experience, as well as opportunities for members to meet others who share a passion for film and TV.

Turning 70 in 2018, FilmSoc is not only one of UCL’s longest running societies, but also one of the oldest in the country. The society has produced a number of notable alumni throughout its history, including director Christopher Nolan (President 1992-94) and producer Emma Thomas.

Alongside regular film screenings, outings and socials, we run a yearly slate of productions for different levels of experience - ranging from termly shorts to webseries - as well as training workshops and talks from industry professionals. Production members gain access to our stock of equipment and the use of our dedicated studio located in the Bloomsbury Building on UCL campus. We also run our own blog and podcast, as well as a film festival - the Festival of the Moving Image (FOMI).

Whichever aspect of film you’re interested in, from watching, making or discussing films, you will be able to develop your interest and skills as well as meet other like-minded people at the UCL Film & TV Society!

Are you more of a creative person? Is writing more your thing? Then the Writer Application for our 2018/19 Term 3 Film should be right up your street.
Send your treatments (a one page treatment, see guidelines at http://uclfilmsociety.co.uk/studio) and 5 pages of a draft of a script before 10PM TUESDAY 23RD ARPIL, and a panel of committee members as well the producer will invite a few writers for a face-to-face discussion of their idea. We will judge the treatment mainly on t...he idea and its originality, but also on its feasibility for a student production. The writer may also want to direct the film, in which case they can also apply to be the director (see below). The panel discussion for writers will take place on the afternoon of WEDNESDAY 24TH APRIL.
All bids are to be emailed to filmsoc@ucl.ac.uk before 6pm on Tuesday, April 23rd. Please also CC your applications to kelly.frost.17@ucl.ac.uk
SHOOTING DATES:
3RD - 7TH JUNE
Please make sure you can make these dates before you submit an application! For our Term 3 film, we have more flexibility with shooting dates and times. If your script is a bit longer, more adventurous, or includes a location outside London, then it is definitely suited for this project!
Treatment guidelines and more info on the Term 3 Film is available at http://uclfilmsociety.co.uk/studio
