A number of core trainees in Scotland are organising a 'Women in Surgery Network: Scotland' event on the 3rd June this year at the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh.
The event will be a whole day event and will include talks but trainees and consultants looking at several important issues which face female surgical trainees such as maternity leave, less than full time training and return to work.It will also look into the history of the surgical speciality where historian D...r Elaine Thompson will talk us through the history of women's entry to the profession.

Kilimanjaro Team Leader Needed!
Gain international leadership experience
Provide taps and toilets to thousands of people
... Receive discounted international travel and have the challenge of a lifetime

Kilimanjaro is one of the most impressive sights in Africa and climbing it is one of the all-time great achievements. It’s the largest freestanding mountain in the world and reaching the summit and watching the sun rise over the vast African plains truly is the experience of a lifetime.

The challenge will take place in August-September 2020 and so we are now recruiting for a Volunteer Team Leader for UCL to help us recruit and support a team of intrepid fundraisers for this adventure.

Deadline for applications is 17th May 2019 so to find out more and apply for the role click here - https://www.climbforcleanwater.org/leadat eam….
Dig Deep is a charity founded by student volunteers which works to help schools and communities get access to water and sanitation in rural Kenya. The sponsorship raised by you and your team completing one of these epic challenges will transform lives by enabling Dig Deep to provide taps and toilets to thousands of people. You can read more about our charity work and objectives by going to www.digdeep.org.uk. In return for the vital work you, as team leader, will be doing to help fund these projects throughout the year, your travel costs will be reduced based on the number of people recruited and you will also have the opportunity to visit the projects you have made possible before your climb.

We know this is an amazing opportunity but don't just take our word for it, here is what a couple of our 2019 Team Leaders have to say:

"Being a Team Leader for Dig Deep has been an incredible experience for me. I signed up to challenge myself, to do something positive for the world and to connect with a group of like-minded people. I have achieved these things, but I didn’t realise how much I’d enjoy every second of it; I’ve gained valuable skills of team management and organising events... It is so rewarding to be a part of this team, and to see each member striving to meet their fundraising target. The Dig Deep team have been fantastic and so supportive; I hope to work with them again in the future. Thanks so much for giving me this opportunity!" Megan, 3rd Year Illustration student at Falmouth University

"A random email was sent to me by a friend detailing the challenge. With one click I have been thrust into a challenge that is defining and shaping my personal outlook on life. Best decision I have made to date." Jamie McLaren, 3rd Year International Business student at University of Strathclyde

The Horizons Fellowship is a fully-funded technology immersion fellowship for top university students from around the world. As technology continues to play a larger role on the world stage, whether it be in business, politics, art, etc., we have been reaching out to various University College London clubs to encourage students to gain a solid technical foundation.
Past Horizonites have come from schools like Harvard, Princeton, UPenn/Wharton, Columbia, and more. We've had e...ngineers, business students, liberal arts majors and designers take our program - they've gone on to receive product management, engineering, and venture capital offers from firms such as Google, Zappos.com, Yelp, Optimizely, Redfin, Insight Venture Partners, and Slack. Others are winning global hackathons and building their own startup ideas.
Our programs are open to students of any year and any major – we encourage candidates with diverse backgrounds and interests to apply!

As previously advised, RCSI is delighted to announce the launch of a unique and innovative Masters programme at the College’s Dublin campus: the Masters (MCh) in Surgical Science & Practice.
Those interested in understanding how this MCh may assist in their surgical training journey can register to join Professor Oscar Traynor at a live Q&A workshop (April 11th or 16th) by clicking here - https://rcsi.eventsair.com/masters-mch-in -surgic…/…/Register. We would be most grateful ...if you could share the details of these upcoming events with your members.
The aim of this programme is to prepare medical graduates for entry onto a surgical residency programme with advanced knowledge and documented skills and behaviors, allowing them to accelerate their training in the clinical setting. The MCh is now open for applications and a programme brochure/ video overview can be accessed by clicking here.
Queries can be forwarded to the programme team by email at mssp@rcsi.ie.

** A Message from Brighton and Sussex Medical School **
Medical students' perceptions of Trauma and Orthopaedics
The objective of this study is to assess medical students’ perceptions of surgery, in particular Trauma and Orthopaedics as a career choice. A particular focus will be to determine whether the medical student population perceive orthopaedics to be suitable for women and what has led to the student perception of an orthopaedic surgeon. We would be very grateful if ...you could complete this short survey (max 15min!). Thank you.
The link to the survey is here: https://bit.ly/2H1Gzk0

** citizenAID Student Conference 4.5.19 Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham **
The charity citizenAID was founded in January 2017 by military and civilian clinicians in Birmingham, drawing heavily from lessons learnt from the military. Its aims are to educate, and thereby empower, the public through simple skills and knowledge in order to prevent avoidable deaths. While the clinical concepts are not new, the combination of safety messaging with life-saving skills as "Run-Hid...e-Tell-Treat" and “Control then ACT” are certainly novel approaches for the public. This prepares the public to react consistently and effectively in a terrorist attack using a simple approach that is accessible via a booklet or a free app.
Here is your opportunity: learn about the charity from the founders, get involved with practical training sessions and learn life saving skills, be inspired to help educate the public!
For details of the day and to register: https://www.citizenaid.org/studentconf201 9
For further information and explainer films and cartoon videos visit our website www.citizenaid.org.
our twitter feeds: @ThecitizenAID @citizenAIDscot
The free app can be downloaded for both Android and iPhones.
We look forward to welcoming you on the day!
