It's October and that means we have a new Cheeseboard of the month! Introducing Spooky Cheese; a selection of four weird and wonderful cheeses inspired by Halloween 🎃🎃.
Valençay is one of the most interesting cheeses on this cheese board as it is the cheese that is said to have unleashed Napoleon's anger. Originally shaped as a perfect pyramid, legend has it that when Napoleon returned to Valency castle after his unsuccessful expedition in Egypt, in a fit of rage he drew his sword and cut off the top; since then the cheese has always been made with a flattened top.

Brun de Noix (brown nut) is an unusual cheese made from raw cow’s milk cheese, aged 1-2 months, during which it is washed regularly with walnut liqueur. The aroma is nutty, the flavours are complex with a sweet walnut flavour and a pleasantly slightly sour finish. Taste this flavourful cheese together with 4 other autumn cheeses all matched with 5 tasty reds at our cheese tasting on Monday 24th September at London Bridge.

Wine and cheese just happen to be two of my absolute favourite things and Vivat Bacchus did not disappoint. My husband and I had the best time visiting the Cheese Room to choose our own cheese board, the friendly, attentive staff were incredible and the wine? Amazing! Thank you for a fantastic evening.

We had a lovely experience. The food were scrumptious and well presented. The service excellent and impeccable. We were well looked after. Lovely jazz music in the background. Soft and nor over powering. The menu and wine list both are impressive.

We had a lovely lunch! The home made burgers were delicious and the staff were extremely but subtly attentive! All in all a very pleasant experience!! We would definitely revisit!

Vivat Bacchus is well worth a visit! Great wine, yummy food and lovely staff. Have enjoyed great cheese here but last night we had the cheese room experience, really knowledgable lady (sorry forgot name!) and great to taste and learn! Our cheese board was delicious and unique!

The service was phenomenally attentive but without being in your face. We had the ribeye steaks which were beautifully cooked accompanied with a delicious red and white South African wine. The restaurant had a wonderful ambience about it with a touch of Jazz music playing live. Perfect evening to a perfect day!

Lovely lunch there while celebrating our wedding anniversary. I had sea trout, hubby had ostrich. We wanted to save room for cheese and boy was that a good idea. Cheese room is fantastic if you're lucky enough to go in. The wine cellar is pretty cool too. A really nice experience with friendly, warm staff, good food, great wine and amazing cheese!!

In one word Amazing.....as a South African this bought back memories from home. love love loved it. Amazing food and service....cheese board board beyond words.

If you're looking for the perfect place for a cheese lover you can do no better. I've taken my brother and my best friend here for their birthdays and they both loved it. The expert cheese advisor and the ability to taste and choose your own special cheeses makes this place feel that little extra special for a treat. The staff are friendly and helpful. The lady who advises in cheeses even remembered me, though it had been over six months between visits. Quality menu with a personal touch.

I won a competition on Facebook to have a pie and a glass of wine for two earlier this week. I had never eaten here before but it exceeded my expectations the service was amazing and the staff were friendly. The pie itself was exceptional and presented decently. My partner and I were so impressed that we will definitely return here in the near future. Thank you Vivat Bacchus. Can't have asked for more.

A really enjoyable evening for my daughters birthday. The staff were very friendly and we had a great table next to the cheese room! The food was very good, especially the biltong and the olives. Everyone enjoyed their steaks, the pasta special and the swordfish! For some, the cheese experience was the pinnacle of the evening!
