#GoodNewsDay - SNT Edition
This week we thought we would bring you a couple of updates from your local teams showing their work in your street.
šŸ‘
... Thamesfield SNT This 10 inch knife was handed in to us by a member of the public after being found on Lacy Road, just off Putney High Street. It goes without saying how dangerous a weapon like this can be. Thank you to the member of the public.
Roads and Transport Tactical Pursuit and Containment (TPAC) cars working with Met Taskforce, stopped a moped on Lavender Hill. Working together to further reduce the incidences of moped enabled crime.
Tooting Town Police PC Knellar, Starzyk and Special Sergeant Gallagher joined our sister team, Furzedown, to help them combat drug dealing on their ward, great team work and great result! One male arrested for drug dealing on their ward!
šŸ‘
Our #BurglarsBounty continues tomorrow with a charming addition!

#MIssing from ? Appeal to identify man found near Putney Embankment
We are appealing for your help to identify a man who was found in the river near Putney Embankment.
... On Thursday, 26 July police were called at 19:20 hours by the London Ambulance Service (LAS) following reports that they had seen a man in the River Thames. Officers attended along with the LAS, London's Air Ambulance and RNLI.
The man was removed from the water by RNLI with help from members of the public and airlifted to hospital where he remains in a critical but stable condition.
He was not carrying any identification and due to his poor state of health police are keen to trace his family as soon as possible.
We have released a photograph of the man in the hope that a family member or friend may recognise him and come forward.
He is a white male, dark in complexion, believed to be in his 30s, of medium build with short dark hair. He has two distinctive tattoos on his left hand and one on his lower right leg, that are faded black in colour. He had been wearing a camouflage t-shirt with white writing on it with "Now or never, no regrets, past/present/future" on it, grey tracksuit bottoms with black rims around the pockets, blue plimsolls with white soles and a white and green Dunlop shoulder bag.
After speaking to witnesses officers are not treating the incident as suspicious and they believe he injured himself after entering a part of the river he thought was shallow.
Detective Sergeant Samantha Batchelor, South West Command Unit Missing Persons Unit, said: "We have exhausted all our lines of enquiry to identify this man and we are hoping with the release of his image a friend or family member will be able to come forward tell us who he is."
Anyone who can assist in identifying this man should call the South West Command's Missing Persons Unit by calling 101 quoting CAD 6675/26 Jul

Three men convicted of setting a car alight used in the murder of Malachi Brooks
Three men have been convicted of setting a car alight that was used in the murder of 21-year-old Malachi Brooks.
Abdul Popatpotra, 27 (20.03.91) of SW11 was found guilty of arson and not guilty of perverting the course of justice on Thursday, 2 August at the Old Bailey and Ashrafur Rahman, 23 (23.08.94) of no fixed address pleaded guilty to arson along with perverting the course of justice at the... first day of the trial.
Another man Joel Preddie, 20 (29.08.97) of Mitcham was found guilty of perverting the course of justice.
All three men will be sentenced at the same court on Thursday, 9 August
The court heard that police were called at approximately 01:10hrs on Tuesday, 28 March, to reports of a man stabbed in Surrey Lane, SW11.
Officers and London Ambulance Service attended and Malachi Brooks from Battersea suffering from stab injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 01:55hrs.
A post mortem examination took pace at St George's Hospital, Tooting on Tuesday, 28 March and gave the cause of death as a stab wound to the heart.
Enquiries established that Malachi's attackers had been driven to Surrey Lane to commit the murder and driven from the scene.
CCTV footage obtained by detectives showed that the car used in the attack, a Nissan Micra was abandoned on Weir Road industrial estate at 01:20 hours on 28 March 2017. It was set alight 24 hours later at 04:10 on 29 March.
The burning of this car destroyed any possible evidential fingerprint and DNA connection being established between the vehicle and the murderers.
Detectives from the Homicide and Major Crime Command then began extensive enquiries to establish who was responsible for burning the car.
The Micra had been stolen from an address in Mitcham during the evening of 23 March. CCTV showed that in the days leading up to the murder Preddie was using the Micra over a period of days.
Between 02:43 and 03:25 on 29 March, Popatpotra made a series of calls to the mobile phone of a cab driver.
The cab driver informed officers that he then picked up two men who came out of Keppel Court. He said that the men got into his car and asked to be taken to a petrol station on Balham High Road. One of the men filled a petrol container with petrol.
Those men were later identified as Rahman and Preddie.
They left the petrol station and asked the cab driver to be driven to Durnsford Road, which leads to the industrial estate at Weir Road, where the Micra had been left the night before. It was then set alight at around 04:10 hours.
Police are continuing to seek those responsible for Malachi's murder anyone with any information is asked to call the incident room on 020 8721 4868 or contact police on 101. To give information anonymously contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or visit crimestoppers-uk.org.

#BurglarsBounty - A Necklace fit for a Queen
The SouthWestBCU Media team have recently begun working with officers from the serious organised crime unit to help identify the owners of over 600 items of property. Items range from Jewellery, watches, designer bags and designer clothes that they believe were stolen in a series of burglaries before the 8th February 2018.
So far, victims of these burglaries have been found in north London through to Surrey. However, there are st...ill several hundreds of items that need reuniting with their owners, and we need your helpā€¦.
In a new initiative we are launching this week, we will release a photograph of a unique or valuable item that needs reuniting with their owner. The more owners we find, the more victims we identify, the more charges we can bring to the suspects.
To kick things off, we are looking for the owner of the necklace pictured below.
Hereā€™s its story.
When we first came across this intriguing necklace, we were at a loss as to what the symbols meant or indeed, what language it is written in. Out came the deerstalker hat and magnifying glass and after some investigation, a colleague suggested that it looked like it was written in Hebrew, possibly someoneā€™s nameā€¦
Low and behold they were only right!
Thanks to Rabbi Schindler at the Richmond Synagogue, we now know that this necklace is likely to belong to a female as it reads "Malka", meaning ā€œQueenā€. Although this may be the Hebrew name of the owner, they could go by a different name in daily life. So please get liking / sharing / commenting and help us reunite this necklace with its Queen.
To see the full range of items we are trying to find owners for, please view the photographs on the Metropolitan Police Flickr Page at https://www.flickr.com/photos/metropolita npolice/albums
If you think that this necklace or any of the items on the flickr page belong to you, then please send us a message on here or email DC Louise Holman at louise.holman2@met.pnn.police.uk and quote the exhibit number. The exhibit number for this necklace is JP/24AT.

#GoodNewsDay!
The rain's back and is making it terribly difficult to choose what to wear in the changing climate. Your travel's up the Swanee and the Barista spells you name with four times too many vowels. With the anger building you realise it's Tuesday so it's (insert drumroll)... ....#GoodNewsDay!
There's lots of posts on social media and here in our little corner of the Met, we are aiming to bring you the "above and beyond" of what your teams are achieving to help ever...yone get home safe.
Make sure you read through to the end as well as there's a special teaser for another new initiative starting tomorrow. So without further ado, here's this weeks tailored story for your borough.
šŸ‘
On Tuesday when the sun was still shinning, officers from various divisions attended the Winstanley Estate in Wandsworth. The teams were dispatched to the area after residents raised concerns of youth anti social behaviour. The role of officers was to engage with the public and provide reassurance.
However, as officers were prepping plans and checking equipment and only having been on the estate for five minutes, a foot chase burst forth for two youths, one of which tried making off on a stolen moped. With the amount of officers present, they didnā€™t get far and both were arrested and later referred for a charge; one for allowing themselves to be carried on a stolen moped and possession of cannabis and the other for stealing it in the first place.
šŸ‘
Tomorrow marks the start of another new (Could be weekly but there's a lot of leg work, people to sign everything off, photography and creativity) feature entitled #BurglarsBounty where you can see over 600 pictures of recovered items, each with a story of its' own....

Man jailed for raping girl in 1978
A man found guilty of raping a female under 13 years old in 1978 has been sentenced to eight years in jail.
A jury returned a unanimous guilty verdict against Colin Hudson, 64 (10.07.54) of Wandsworth on 19 April at Croydon Crown Court.
... He was sentenced on Friday, 27 July, at the same court.
The court heard that in March 2015, the victim, who is now in her 50s, reported to Dorset Police that as a 12-year-old child she had been groomed and raped by Hudson at his home in Croydon.
She described how he had ingratiated himself into the victim's family and convinced her that he was her boyfriend in a secret relationship.
Before the day of the attack, Hudson pressured the victim to visit his address in Croydon, which she agreed to do. The suspect then instructed the victim to get into his bed and undress, before he raped her.The victim described feeling overwhelmed and in a state of shock following the attack and unable to tell anyone at the time what had happened. She felt unable to report the allegation to the authorities until after her father died in 2012 where she described having a greater confidence that her allegation would be believed by the authorities.
Officers charged Hudson with rape on 22 June 2016.
During the trial, the suspect continued to deny any responsibility, however a jury found him guilty following a nine-day trial.
Detective Constable Gregg Nicol from the Metā€™s Child Abuse and Sexual Offences Unit (CASO) said: ā€œThis was a complex investigation into a 40-year historical allegation of rape in which Hudson probably thought he would escape justice after so many years. I praise the victim's bravery in reporting her allegation and her determination in seeking a conviction.ā€
Detective Inspector Simon Dowling from the Metā€™s Child Abuse and Sexual Offences Unit (CASO) said ā€œThe victim has waited a long time to get the justice she deserves. I hope this result will mean other victims will have the confidence to come forward to report rape no matter when it happened in their lives.
ā€œThe victim has had to live her life after suffering at the hands of Hudson 40 years ago and although this result will never give her back that time, I hope it will provide some closure and she can now put this behind her.ā€

#GoodNewsDay
Police updates can sometimes seem a bit doom and gloomy due to the nature of what we do, but we are aiming to change that, starting now. From today, our #SouthWestBCU media team will attempt to bring you a real "fist pump the air" news story every Tuesday.
Our #GoodNewsDay update will differ from each of our boroughs (we merged but you haven't!) so make sure you follow each of our areas - Kingston Police, Wandsworth Police, Merton Police and Richmond Upon Thames... Police.
Grumpy trolls will be banned from the feel good post, so sit back, feet up and chill with this weeks "wow moment".
šŸ‘
On July 1st, our very own plucky PC Brennan was flagged down by frantic members of the public on Priory Lane, worried for a male who had been found collapsed in the middle of the street.
Initially conscious and breathing, the man went into cardiac arrest shortly after PC Brennan got to his side. Training immediately took over with the PC commencing chest compressions, shouting for a nearby "defib" machine from his police car.
"Apply shock now" came the recorded voice...
The compressions continued and the same instruction was repeated as the ambulance arrived. Pulse located, the male stabilised. Rushing him to St Georgeā€™s hospital, the staff there said that the actions of PC Brennan saved the maleā€™s life.

#MopedMondays All your moped related news for the #SouthWestBCU area
In our cluster of boroughs we take moped crime very seriously and are using every tactic we can muster to curb the criminals.
... To this end, we will be bringing you a weekly update (unless we get something in really pressing) with all the arrests, initiatives and news to keep you as informed as possible. We'll be using the hashtag #MopedMondays for you to search updates. News will be released when we can in accordance to our reporting guidelines as we wouldn't want to hinder any live operations / cases.
So here we go.
šŸšØ Arrests 17/07/2018 ā€“ Male stopped + arrested for breaching his criminal behaviour order (CBO) by our #ProactiveTeam. While officers were dealing with the male for the breach of CBO, they noticed a moped with two riders acting suspiciously. Officers stopped them and turned out the moped had just been stolen. Two teenage males arrested and taken to custody.
šŸšØ Seizures 20/07/2018 - Working with local residents who noticed an increase in dodgy looking characters and their mopeds, the safer neighbourhood team sprung into action and seized them all.
šŸšØ Initiatives We have spoken to various "proper" biking groups and although this has a mixed response, we are beginning the roll out of a new initiative for us. We have been working with our licensing officers and local businesses to enforce a "Helmet off for fuel" approach. We understand that having to remove your helmet is an inconvenience for some but if the criminals refuse to do so, they will not get fuel. We hope that this at least begins to hinder their onward progress.
We will continue to work with the real biking community, local focus groups and you, our residents, to #CurbTheCrimals.

Man convicted of voyeurism offences
A man has been convicted of voyeurism offences which he committed over a period of 12 years.
Darren Johnson, 51, of Putney, pleaded guilty on Wednesday, 18 July at Kingston Crown Court to five counts of voyeurism including counts against two 14-year-old girls.
... He will be sentenced at the same court on Tuesday, 28 August.
The court heard that between 1 January 2005 and 5 June 2017, Johnson watched and captured images of females in leisure centre changing rooms and toilets in Putney and Earlsfield.
Johnson founded the company which ran the leisure centres where several of the offences took place.
The first allegation of Johnson was reported by two 14-year-old girls on 5 June 2017 after they saw Johnson attempting to take pictures of them on his mobile phone in a changing rooms in Putney.
An investigation was immediately launched by officers from the Metā€™s South West Command and Johnson was identified on CCTV footage which linked him to the crime.
A number of Johnsonā€™s personal items were seized following a search warrant, including his personal computer, iPad and mobile phone, some of which contained voyeuristic images. He was arrested on 12 June 2017 and charged on 5 May.
Detective Constable Nayeff Al-Wareeth, from the Metā€™s South West Command, said: "This conviction would not have been possible without the courage and bravery of the young girls who first came forward with the initial allegation.
"We will continue to work around the clock to ensure that criminals like Johnson are off our streets and behind bars."

A Rubbish post.
Here's the thing. There's rubbish you need to get rid of. Can you be bothered to schlep all the way (5 whole minutes) to the tip to chuck it out at the recycling centre? You always seem to bump into Trevor who obsessively drones on about his prize nasturtiums.
Fear not! Sweaty Brian to the rescue!
... All you need to do is wait for Brian and his low hanging trousers to pop along, chuck him a score, then it's job done. Time to sit on the sofa, watch a different type of trash on the telly and flick through Facebook.
And look what's just happened in you neighbours road!!! Some upstanding member of society has dumped a load of rubbish all over the shop! It's blocking the road!
The cheek of it. (Better insert a strongly worded comment.... Angry emoji... that'll tell 'em...) Oh well, Brian promised he'd "sort it aahhht!" so you can engage "smug mode".
As you watch the dislikes ping ever upwards, you realise that the sink in the post looks like the one you just chucked out. Is that your old toilet too?
Couldn't be?
Could it?
šŸ’©šŸ’©šŸ’©
Paying someone on your doorstep to take away your rubbish could very well end up with your trash scattered in adjacent roads and not disposed of properly or safely.
šŸŒŗ Make sure you choose a reputable company or do it yourself. šŸŒŗ Do not use someone you found on the street to do it - research a reputable company šŸŒŗ If your stuff gets dumped, you get the fine.
http://www.wandsworth.gov.uk/recycling
Trevor's nasturtiums are a smaller price to pay.

Welcome to the Family.
Commissioner, Mayor of London and our own South West BCU Commander welcomed new officers at passing out parade which was the first to include direct entry detective constables took place yesterday.
The Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Service Cressida Dick and special guest London Mayor Sadiq Khan congratulated the 172 new recruits in front of friends and family at the Metā€™s historic training academy in Hendon. A passing out parade is a traditio...nal ceremony which marks the transition from trainee police officer to probationer.
During the parade, officers marched onto the parade square accompanied by music performed by The Band of The Royal Logistic Corps and performed drills as instructed by their drill Sergeant.
They were then inspected by the reviewing officers; in this case, the Commissioner and the Mayor who later offered words of encouragement, support and recognition of their chosen career path.
In addition, there was an award ceremony for the top performing students. The probationary detective constables joined the service through an innovative method of recruitment. They undertook and passed a rigorous selection process, with specialised training in the field of investigative work in the first pathway of its kind for the Met.
At yesterdayā€™s parade there were 37 detective constables and 135 other officers, with 24% of them from a Black and Minority Ethnic background. They will now join their respective units to keep the Capital safe.
Passing-out parades have taken place in Hendon since 1934.
We were also so proud of our ex head cadet passing out at Hendon! We are looking forward to working with him and happily welcome him and the other 23 new officers to our family.
