Reiki is the name given to a system of natural healing which evolved from the experience and dedication of Dr Mikao Usui, who lived in Japan in the last century. Reiki (pronounced Ray-key) is a Japanese word meaning Universal Life Energy. Dr Usui developed this healing system from ancient Buddhist teachings after many years of study, research and meditation. He spent the rest of his life practising and teaching Reiki. Today Reiki continues to be taught by teachers (called Reiki Masters to honour the tradition) who have been trained in a method passed down from teacher to student.

Receiving a Reiki treatment is a very simple process. The recipient lies on a couch, or sits on a chair, and relaxes. There is no need to remove any clothing. The practitioner gently places their hands non-intrusively in a sequence of positions which covers most of the body. The whole person is treated, rather than specific symptoms. A full treatment last approximately one hour, with each hand position held for several minutes.

Reiki flows to the areas of need, balancing, energising, soothing pain and discomfort and supporting the body's natural ability to heal itself. It is thus possible to heal at any level of being: physical, emotional, mental or spiritual. Some problems can be helped quickly, long standing or chronic illnesses will take longer. At whatever stage of disease, physical or other, Reiki healing can bring enhancement of the quality of life, and nearly always, a deep relaxation and sense of well-being. Reiki complements all other forms of treatment, both orthodox and alternative.
Reiki practitioners do not interfere with any other treatments you might receive. We aim to complement conventional medicine and natural therapies. Reiki healers do not diagnose, prescribe, nor give medical advice.
