It's a great place. I try and visit it whenever I'm in London.
Had a great lunch of Spitfire Sausages and a mash of butternut squash and sweet potatoes last week - Thanks to Steve for a great job taking care of us!
Great watering hole close to some of London's top tourist spots like the Churchill war rooms. You might also spot a politician or two!
Coming from the states we have been hitting up a lot of the pubs and this one was by far our favorite. So authentic with tasty drafts and flavorful food. Everyone at home who have been to the U.K. kept going on about how we wouldn't like the food. They must not have gone here because we quite enjoyed it.
We went yesterday and it was busy and bustling.
The staff were refreshingly efficient and no nonsense.
There was no fake "have a nice day" which many people like. They were mature, get-the-job-done types. We were taken to the corner booth which was the old confessional box. It was a bit warm but comfortable.
The menu is no nonsense pub food. We had the pie and mash, and the burger and chips.
They were perfectly adequate and tasty.
We also had a pint of beer and a lemonade. Total cost £27. For London, that is a bargain.
I think some people expect gastronomic marvels here. If you turn up here expecting that, you'll be disapponted. If you want a reasonable honest lunch for a tenner, it's great.
We'll go back anytime.
By the way, we entered, ordered and were eating within 20 minutes.
Nice little bar with a friendly welcome...would visit again....nice beer too...x
The bar prices are a bit funny. £4-75 for 1 pint £4-85 for another bar man said £10-00. Must of been a 40 pence tip for him. Or he is fiddling.
Central location, friendly and helpful staff. Food was good, although I did expect veggies with my steak and ale pie and mash,(Personal choice).
A very good selection of ales unfortunately a bit on the expensive side. Also a severe lack of seating, only a few bar stalls set against the wall and windows.
