****HOMEBIRTH UPDATE****Service user information**** We would like to reassure all expectant mothers and their partners, friends and families that our Homebirth Services at Whipps Cross University Hospital will continue to run without any interruption. Protecting and promoting informed women’s choices is central to our services. This includes place of birth. All women receiving maternity care at Whipps Cross can choose to give birth where it feels more appropriate to them, wh...ether this is at home, at our Alongside Midwifery Unit (Lilac Birth Centre) or our Obstetric Unit (Delivery Suite). The homebirth team is undergoing a transition with two members relocating to our Lilac Birth Centre in December. We are actively recruiting in order to maintain a dedicated homebirth team. During this transitional period our Community Midwives together with their Team Leaders will coordinate homebirth services for women booked under their care. Women wishing for a homebirth will continue to have, in addition to routine pregnancy and postnatal care:  -a homebirth meeting every month  -homebirth set up visits at 36 weeks  -labour and birth on-call system 24 hrs a day for homebirth If you have any concerns regarding your birth plan or place of birth please do contact a Supervisor of Midwives 24 hrs a day by calling Whipps Cross Main Switchboard on 02085395522 and asking the operator to put you with the Supervisor of Midwives on-call. Alternatively you may contact us on: Jacqueline.GabrielKing@bartshealth.n hs.uk Senior Midwifery Manager Felipe.CastroCardona@bartshealth.nhs .uk Consultant Midwife

One year ago I had my baby, daughter in maternity. I had my birth inducted due to high blood pressure. I was very well cared for and all midwives were very understanding and patient. All went very well and I gave birth naturally. I will always recommend this hospital to a new Mum.

User

User

I had my little girl there a week ago. Want to say BIG thank you for all midwifes and doctors. Really professional service and fantastic care. Can’t remember the name but Slovakian midwife was fantastic!

I had my baby at the Lilac Birthing Centre on Sunday the 13th August. Triage initially sent me to the labour ward but when I was ready to deliver, I was sent to Lilac to deliver.

The final stage of delivery was long and hard but I felt completely at ease with my midwives Sara, Taru (unsure of name, very experienced lady from Finland) and the student midwife.

I was so impressed by their professional approach, empathy and dedication. THANK YOU for making my birth story a positive experience. I will look back it with positive feelings, despite the hurdles and pain.

Had my little boy there- was the best experience staff were amazing! My labour was good and the whole pregnancy was monitored efficiently.

User

Fantastic care at each stage, particularly from my midwife Shamaine. Our son Jack similarly received excellent, thorough, care during his short stay at SCBU.

User

Although Whipps Building is run down and first impressions are that its not nice it's actually a really good hospital with amazing staff. I had my twins there Dec 2015 and it was beyond perfect! Albeit a bit too hot! Don't be put off by scaremongers and their negativity.

User

Absolutely amazing.. the staff have been first class and I don't have enough words to express my gratitude for all thier hard work in safely bringing my beautiful daughter into the world.. from the staff in triage, the delivery suite with special mentions to Joanna, Caitlin, Leza and Este who were all absolutely amazing, kind and couldn't do enough to the staff in SBCU weren't daughter is still currently receiving unbelievable care and attention.. the hard work u do is amazing and I cannot speak highly enough.. very proud of u all, amazing service and dedication to duty 👍🏼

We have a baby boy using normal delivery. Our special thanks to midwife and the staff members of Whipps Cross Maternity Service. We are very much satisfied with the service provided by the maternity unit. I would strongly recommend any to be mother to opt for the maternal care service in Whipps Cross.

User

Not bad but not the best either, depends on the midwife really and how long your there for aswell. Labour ward is much better than the actual maternity ward, treated like you don't know what you're doing whether it's first baby or you've had babies.

User

Very disappointed this time with whipps cross hospital, my first child my daughter was born there in 2016 and the staff both in labour ward and maternity were great they were very professional and helpful but 2nd time round with my Son born on 21st April 2018 they staff in labour ward/ triage were great very promising and the room i was kept in was very clean, however once i was transfered up to maternity unit it was terrible the bed I received had blood stains, and the staff said the sheets had been changed, the bed i was kept in (bed 25) the area was not clean, what made matters even worse was the fact in the night when i required assistance & help with breast feeding the midwives ignored me i rang the buzzer they would come and switch it off but no help was provided, one midwife spoke to me very rudely when i asked her if someone could change my bedsheets as they were very dirty, and what topped off the matter even more when one morning 2 midwives came to administer antibiotics to my son when he didnt need them. When i asked why he needed antibiotics they looked confused only to tell my they got the wrong baby and they didnt even check his tag. If i never asked them they would have given them to him. anyway the list of complaints continues. Deffinately wont be going their again!!!!

User

worst hospital ever even animals get treated better. no care or consideration. left in pain in labour for 5 days cause no bed available in the labour suite. no cares or listened to the distress i was in. still traumatised by the experience. avoid avoid avoid. in fact shut the ward down

User

Not so much maternity ward, more ante natal clinic - unorganised and useless! I should have gone with my gut and changed hospitals in the beginning. Now over 39 weeks, with breech baby and being stuffed around! Not impressed...
