Merry Christmas to everyone, here at Wolds Glamping we wish a prosperous New Year and hope to see you in 2018. During early 2018 our new Shepherds Hut shall be available for hire. We have been building this during the Winter, weather permitting! There is a bathroom, kitchen, double or twin beds and sitting space in side the building. It will have its own little garden to sit in. We are hoping that this new facility will be popular. Looking forward to seeing you in 2018.

There has been a lot happening on the East Coast this Summer. The puffins may have waved a fond farewell, but there's still plenty of action with our largest seabird, the gannet, at RSPB Bempton Cliffs. An RSPB and Natural England study has revealed a record-breaking 410,000 seabirds now make the coast from Flamborough to Filey home each year. It's no surprise then that gannets remain one of the stars of these seabird cities, and to meet the demand for those keen to capture ...the unrivalled photo opportunities at RSPB Bempton Cliffs, Yorkshire Coast Nature released extra dates for their popular sessions during August. Our biggest wildlife visitors the minke whales are back, keep an eye out from the clifftops of the Flamborough Headland or head to Whitby or Staithes for a dedicated whale-watching trip. During August I watched the seals feeding at Flamborough, David and our granddaughter climbed the 119 steps to the top of the lighthouse – but I climbed more steps from the beach! The Pocklington Gliding Club has been holding the annual national two seater competition. It is quite spectacular to see so many gliders soaring, they come from all over England to take part. Pocklington’s own “It’s a Knockout” is to be held on Monday 28th August at the Football Club, Keith Chegwin is hosting the event. It is excellent entertainment for the family. On the 30th August Burnby Hall Gardens is holding a “Teddy Bears Picnic” – I am sure you all still have your favourite bear to accompany you! September, at the Arts Centre in Pocklington, two popular acts, Barbara Dickson and Mark Radcliffe and a good line of films are to be shown. Our Pods have heating and are well lagged to keep the warmth in, so guests will not feel the cold when the weather starts to change this Autumn. It will be great to see you.

Walking the Wolds Way
Hot on the heels of Yorkshire - a year in the wild and a trip from BBC Countryfile to Spurn Point, the region will be hitting TV screens once again this month as award-winning explorer Paul Rose treads the Yorkshire Wolds Way National Trail. Amongst other adventures, Paul spends a day with local wildlife artist Robert Fuller in the heart of the Wolds, exploring the area's wild side. Woldsglamping is not far away from Robert Fullers studio and the Wolds a...re a great place to explore. Now is the time to walk the rolling hills and see all the new vegetation and livestock. Here at Woldsglamping we have been busy with visitors coming to see the Tour de Yorkshire which went through Pocklington. The town was decorated by local ladies who knitted blue and yellow bunting. There was an array of colourful cycles, which are still there for all to see along the race route. All the shops took part in the celebration of having the tour in our area and the atmosphere was great. Even the Church had a massive yellow T-Shirt hanging from the tower. This last week Pocklington had is "Flying Man Festival" which again local residents took part organising. Burnby Hall Gardens had their Tulip Festival and the flowers looked superb. The gardens are beautiful and relaxing to walk round. Everything is happening in this area, it is a great place to visit. Come and stay at woldsglamping there is so much to see and do.

Is everyone ready for Spring, all the birds and animals are getting ready. Now is the time to visit the Wolds and seek out all what is happening. We are open for business at Wolds Glamping, our rabbits have been scampering about the field and the kestrel has been hovering over the pods. The owls have never stopped visiting the site - leaving their visiting cards on the pod door steps! Unfortunately, the owls around here are not that bright, we have had an owl box up for ye...ars with "Owls House" written on it - not once have they taken a look in! We have concluded they can't read.

We have had the fastest shed on the road stay in September. The shed was being tested at Elvington airfield. It was very interesting to meet the owner, Kevin Nicks. He has appeared on T.V. with his shed and was hoping to reach 100 mph at the airfield. We are meeting all sorts at woldsglamping.

The third shower room is now complete, which will make life easier for our visitors to the pods. I have been to a seminar on Hull's "City of Culture 2017" and there seems to be something different going on each day of 2017. The East Riding Council is hoping to have some of the visitors looking around our County whilst they stay in or nearby Hull. Woldsglamping is only about 35 minutes drive away from Hull and about the same to York, so we are well situated for use as a b...ase camp to visit both places. Pocklington is about 40 minutes from the North Yorkshire Moors and the coast. There is a lot to do around this area. Over the summer we have had several people staying to do triathlon's at nearby Allerthorpe Leisure Park, swimming, running and cycling seemed to be the popular activity. Some have stayed a few days to enjoy the area as well, one place is Burnby Hall Gardens which is the best water lily garden in Europe. The garden is in the centre of Pocklington and is well worth a visit. There is a lovely play park for young children who also like to feed the massive fish in the lakes and there are plenty of places for them to run around. Superb café selling super cakes and drinks. If you want to do something different, try walking with Alpaca's in Allerthorpe woods with Rachel who runs the Purple Pig Company. Rachel has all sorts of petting animals from sheep to an owl. Hope to see you soon.

We are busy with the pods now the weather has changed for the better. Today is Yorkshire Day and this has been celebrated all over Yorkshire, so I celebrated my own way, by having my nails painted at The Pink Lady, a lot more relaxing. I have tried counting the rabbits near the pods....I have given up, they keep moving, so if you would like a peaceful sleep, stay and count rabbits! We are now doing a special rate for August, stay for two mid week nights and the third is half price. There are a few dates left.

We have now the final pod built which is full this weekend. The weather is cooler, but the pods are cosy inside. Below is the view of all the pods and two pictures of the view from the pods. It shows how much space there is in front of the pods. I have someone enquiring about putting a marquee up for a "do". The wild violets are still flowering in the hedge row, they do look nice. The swallows are swooping down catching flies, I love to see them, they remind me that Summer is here at last.

Georgie Shore can now been seen on line. They stayed in the pods last year and it has just been on TV. The last pod will be finished soon and we are having the last bathroom plastered, ready for the shower, toilet and sink to be fitted. All the pods are full tonight and we are taking bookings for most weekends. The wild violets can be seen in the hedgerow - Spring is here at last! The rabbits are busy munching the grass - as least we don't need to mow the grass. We have had the trees chopped and now getting more sunshine into the garden - WHEN it shines! It has been raining most days but it is getting warmer.

User

The last of the pods is just been started, the wood arrived to day. We will have six pods, we have not decided whether to make another family pod or build one more which holds three persons. We are waiting for the shower unit to arrive for the last bathroom. We have vacancies for the next couple of weeks, but we have had quite a few occupied through January and February. I don't think anyone has been cold at night - some have said they have been too hot! We are having some trees cut down by a young man who stayed with us last month, he gave us a card and said he would chop them down. He has done a good job, well pleased, we will be able to see the sun this summer - if it doesn't rain!

User

We are now into February, has anyone watched Georgie Shore? We do not have sky tv - or is it best I don't find out what happened in the programme! We have had our first snow shower for the year but it was only a sprinkling. The other shower room is now been constructed which will make it easier for guests. We are busy at weekends with people staying and they seem to enjoy staying even though it is freezing outside. The rabbits are not so keen to pop out of their burrows in the cold weather, but today in the sunshine they were hopping about - eating my plants rather than all the grass. We have had daffodils flowering since Christmas day and they are now dying, the other daffs are coming out, which is miles too early, there will be none left to flower in Spring.

User

We have got over Christmas, several pods were booked over Christmas week and most weekends in January the pods have people staying. In February, if you have sky tv you will be able to watch "Georgie Shore" who stayed in the Pods at Wolds Glamping. They were a great bunch, I hope they enjoyed their stay. It will be interesting to see the pods on the TV. We had lights everywhere when they were filming. The cast came in a stretch limo which got stuck in the field! We did w...arn them that would happen, but I think they thought it would be a good laugh. We had to get a neighbours tractor pull them out. These cars weigh 7.5 tons and are back wheel drive - not the sort of vehicle to drive onto soft land. If you go and see "Dad's Army" at the cinema you will see a lot of East Yorkshire. The church hall is really a small theatre in Beverley near County Hall. The coastal scenes were taken at Flamborough and the High Street in Bridlington. We have had daffodils flowering since before Christmas because of the mild weather - there will be nothing left to flower in Spring!

At last! The family pod is up and running. It holds four single beds or one kingsize bed and two singles. We have had several visitors staying who seem to have enjoyed their stay. The other week we enjoyed a walk down the canal with an expert on bats.... and slugs! Slugs are quite interesting. They can all breed and when they are needing a "little bit of attention" they leave a slimy trail behind them. If another slug fancies a "little bit of attention" it eats the slim...e to see if the other slug is in "the mood". If it finds the other slug is needing a bit of attention, the slug follows the trail, until it comes to the other slug. When the slug catches up with the first slug it nibbles at the others tail to say "oy, mate, I'm 'ere". Then both of them climb a tree, creep along a branch, secrete some slime which they both dangle from and cork screw around each other.... and enjoy it others company. Apparently, whilst the slugs are having a good time they glow blue! Afterwards they drop to the ground and go their separate ways...what a good idea! IIt seems a simple life. As you can see we are full of useless info! I could not stay for the whole tour as we had someone arriving at the pods. Walking back, I was followed, a bit scary when you are on your own, until I realised the noise in the field next to the canal had deer in and they were walking along side me at the other side of the hedge.

The family pod is quickly been constructed, it will have room for a double bed at one end and two single beds either side of the entrance. Harry Postill has made the beds for us and everyone who has slept in them say they are very comfortable - best rest for a long time! Pete Langstaff put the double glazed door and window into the pod today and now it is weather proof we can get on with the inside. We are looking at the middle of August before it is ready. The Fox has been in the field again - left its usual marks. The little owl has given us a visit and again left its calling card on number one pod and the step to the showers. We have just come in from removing weeds, it seems to be never ending job. All the pods are full tonight (3rd August). Now it looks like rain, our usual British summer weather is back again.

Great nights stay. Pods are immaculate condition and super clean. All bedding, towels, camp chairs etc were provided. Kitchen and washblock was very clean and modern, almost un-used. Nice field for the kids to play in. Only 15 min walk into Pocklington to bars and restaurants. Very helpful owners. Definitely recommended!

User

Enjoyed our stay at Wolds glamping. Booked the night in a pod as part of a weekend away for my girlfriends birthday. On arrival, we found that the pod had been decorated with 'happy birthday' banners, which was a really nice and thoughtful gesture. The pods, kitchen and bathroom were all super clean. We had a BBQ once we discovered the pods were equipped with camping chairs and table. Through the night the pod was really warm and pitch black which made it really easy to get a good nights sleep.

Would 100% recommend and will 110% return in the future.

User

Brilliant hosts, very welcoming, let us leave our car so that we could complete the wolds way cycle trail loop over three days. Accommodation very quaint just the right size for two people with everything you need, fold up table and chairs which fits just a inside the pod so you can have a cosy dinner , or sit out on the porch and have a BBQ. Loved sleeping in these pods with the wonderful smell of wood!
