We're locals and have been in a few times since the new management. The children love the toy basket and sand pit. The food is lovely and the staff are lovely and friendly. Roll on summer for the garden

User

This is a lovely village pub great food and drinks with staff always friendly this is our favourite pub in cheam village

User

Thank you Erin and all the staff. We had a great night last night, the service and food were excellent. Loving the new management xx

User

Reserved a table as my cousin was over from Ireland and had arranged for Champagne on arrival... which it was. As always great service, friendly staff and lovely atmosphere. It’s why we keep coming back. Thank you x

User

Popped into this pub before going to dinner. Have to say that the staff stood out as having such a fantastic level of customer service. They made us feel immediately welcome. Knew their wines. Offered to wipe down seats outside (due to our Great British summer it had rained!) Service was prompt even though the bar was busy and full of regulars. Maybe they are small things-but it works for me! (Oh -and dog friendly-always a bonus!)

User

Lovely local pub, friendly staff, well kept ales, nice food, lots of history (400+ years old, back to Henry VIII), roaring fire in winter, dog friendly...what's not to like?! BUT DON'T TELL EVERYONE!

User

Lifelong friends from Cheam have had a wonderful Reunion meal here- superb food in a relaxing atmosphere & lovely, welcoming staff :-D Well done & we look forward to returning soon!

User

Had a good roast dinner (and one burger and chips!) for Father’s Day today. The pub was extremely busy with all tables inside occupied and most of outside too. Were told there was a 30 min or so wait for food which we expected due to how busy it was which was fine and we enjoyed a drink as we waited. Staff very friendly and hard working clearing tables and serving speedily. Look forward to a return visit soon.

Gorgeous lunch and the apple crumble pudding is to die for

User

Food was amazing, bar staff are amazing. Really enjoy spending our evening here

User

First visit yesterday for a family lunch and will definitely be coming back again. We received fantastic service, the food was excellent all in all this place is a fabulous local pub

User

Booked a table for dinner on a Saturday evening when the pub was really packed so didn't expect too much from the food. Well I was wrong as it was absolutely great and a big step up from your regular pub grub. Very generous portion sizes too and unfortunately I had to leave some. Will definitely be going back!

User

Went yesterday with my family. Haven’t been for a while as wasn’t happy with the food and service. The new manager is great, very friendly and helpful, lovely lady served us at the bar. The food was lovely, glad to hear the original chef is back. Lovely afternoon.

User

Been regulars for a few years but management in last while hadn't seemed to care.... new management erin and her team have really improved the service and everything about the pub.....some of it small touches like new unsticky and clean menus, but plans to refurb.....all good! Well done erin xxx

User

Very lively pub serving a good pint, the food is standard pub ware which is reasonably priced and good value.

Good atmosphere and welcoming

User

I love the Ole fashion style & welcoming staff BUT We Popped in for some Sunday grub with the family only to be told by the wonderful & friendly staff the chef was refusing to cook & they couldn't take our order until they knew if he was going to go back to the kitchen or not! Was advised to have a drink & come back in an hour to ask if he's taking orders.. Kids was hungry so we left & went somewhere else.

I've been coming to The Red Lion on and off for the best part of 20 years. It's had highs and lows. Sadly it's in one of its deepest lows at the moment.

Came in for a beer in Christmas week. Two of the ale pumps were off when I came in. They told me they were "show pumps". Rubbish. Either rubbish or some nonsensical change of policy.

The ales they had left on we're Doombar, GK IPA, London Pride and some horrible Christmas ale with a handmade pump clip. So nothing that's any good even at the best of times. All tasted terrible and the first two soon went off. Six pumps and four of them off. In Christmas week. Unforgivable. To be fair to the staff they put on Adnams Ghost Ship when we asked them if they had anything good coming on but the damage was already done.

This place needs to be sorted out once for all. Someone who knows how to run pubs and how to pick and keep decent ale please buy the Lion off the terrible Stonegate pubco ASAP and turn this place into the great pub that the building and the location has always afforded it the potential to be.

Merry Christmas? Here it's mostly humbug.

Had a table booked for 11 people for birthday celebrations most people ordered roast yuck was terrible no cauliflower cheese available a side of pigs in blankets £2.45 2 arrived on a saucer one guest had to go and ask for his dinner as it didn't arrive from kitchen. We sat down at our table at 2 and at 4.15 we was told we have to be gone by 5 as the table was booked for other people service was diabolical nobody cleared our plates we had to put them on a near by table to make some room. And not until 4.45 when they wanted us to leave did they come over to take glasses away. We all left very upset by the rude staff. Never again will I eat in this pub again food was horrid frozen potatoes meat was good, 1 burnt parsnip! The veg was cubed carrots cubed beetroot and onion nothing green not even a pea. Such a shame this pub used to be the best in the village, seems I'm not the only one to think like this it was so empty wilst we was in there. Manger needs a massisve kick up the butt before he losses all he's regulars

Came for lunch today, ordered at 1:15, at 1:55 our food was no where to be seen. When the waitress was asked how long it was going to be as we had been waiting 40 minutes she stated it had only been half an hour and that it was being plated up. At 2:15 food was still no where to be seen, asked the waitress once again where it was and she stated that it was going to be 5 minutes, she was overly defensive and gave no apology. At 2:20 the food eventually arrived, the waitress stated that there were no potatoes left for the tart and it had chips instead, when questioned about this and the hour wait the waitress stated it was a temp chef, asked why we weren't told this when we ordered she said that she didn't know, once again no apology. The crab loaf was only filled half way with filling and the rest was uncut and dry. The lettuce was dead. The "superfood side salad" was a few bit of measly lettuce with cucumber and peppers, not sure what part is super. Have left hungry and annoyed.
