YONDER CREW INTRODUCTION:
Today we're getting to know Paul Vooght, half the brain behind Yonder. Growing up in Devon, Paul was surrounded by great sport climbing crags, and having climbers in his family, he started climbing at age 14. With the luxury of having a climbing wall at his school, and being one of the only people climbing, they just handed him the keys. Looking back now he was already collecting valuable climbing centre owner experience.
... A few years later, with an industrial design degree under his belt he moved to Chamonix to climb, ski and live the life he loved. It was during this time in the mountains that his first business venture, Panyan, came to life. Making some of the most conscious and creative chalk bags on the market.
After moving to London six years ago to work as a designer for JamesUK, he swiftly converted James into a climber. In James he found the perfect partner for his climbing dreams, so ventured into the world of bouldering centre business. Their mission is clear: create an amazing climbing facility in London and maintain a healthy work-life balance.
When Paul isn't climbing he’s surfing or dreaming of climbing in Fontainebleau. He hopes to be climbing as much as possible at Yonder, but you might just find him enjoying a cold IPA and a pizza in the cafe, and who could blame him?

Four years ago the owner a furniture company, James, outgrew his studio space, while his colleague and avid climber, Paul, was dreaming of building his own climbing centre. Around the same time hectic work days caused many missed climbing sessions. Their work-life relationship slowly fell out of balance. The solution seems obvious now: bring climbing to work and your studio space to the bar. Thus, the idea for Yonder was born. Almost by accident they came across an empty bu...ilding in Walthamstow, which was the first and only building they ever looked at. There was one issue: the space was too big. The solution of true doers: add layers of climbing, include a yoga studio and cafe/bar! Out of necessity they covered every step of their daily life, not out of laziness but out of the confidence in the rich and varied community this would create! They would only have to sleep at home. After a long and slightly painful wade through the change of use process, they were able to start planning for construction. To help pay the rent they rented half the space out to photographers, local freelancers and a even gave space to a charity. Then another setback followed shortly. Due to ambitious designing, tests showed that the structure columns would need reinforcement. Giving up was never an option, so that challenge was mastered as well, and soon after the first climbing walls started going up.
The dream became reality.

Sneaky pint or two and a game of pool can't be a terrible thing after a hearty climb!!! Can't wait to get our locals brewed selection of IPA and Lager running again from sept 10th. Starting with @wildcardbrewery & @beavertownbeer on the taps. We also have wine, cider and a few more beers by the can. Non-alcohol beverages also available of course, @jarrkombucha being one of the more interesting choices! Still buzzing from having our dedicated Kickstarter supporters in for a few tester events last weekend. Was so great to see the space working for the first time for these guys, and get some of our staff working together for the first time as well. The feedback was great and we have found a few things to get running that little bit smoother for when we let you all through the doors. Literally can't wait! Pretty heavy day on site lifting more soft matting than you could ever dream of! Soon their won't be a single spot in our Boulder field that won't catch your falls like a dream! Great work from the guys lugging these huge things around. Can't beat the creative use of the Top Out Boulder as the most elaborate steps in town (second picture)! Was great to have one of our new staff members, Nico, helping out on site for the first time, and a huge shout out to Yonder's human crane, Vlad, for leading the team today. So great to see the huge curving seat / balustrade go in. Our giant competition prow (seen in the second picture) provided us with the perfect opportunity for a relaxed spot to sit and chill, hovering over the rest of the centre. We have tried our best to make all our climbing areas interact with each other and seeing the upper Tier Boulder area fenced in by the competition wall below is super exciting. #gettingthere #simplebuteffective #interconnected #priderock #elaboratedetails @ Yonder

**CONSTRUCTION UPDATE**
Moving ever closer to open... the tell tale signs are popping up all over site.
Our workshop hero's Joe and Alex have been turning out all manor of custom cabinetry from our reception desk shoe storage to volumes and the cafe bar.
... And yes, that is indeed a pool table, in the cafe, for your tea, coffee and beer drinking pleasure!
We've got a selection of gorgeous plants settling nicely into the yoga studio courtesy of Succulence E17.
And last but by no means least... the matting has arrived and the setting is complete...the walls are ready!! We even managed to push a few mats together for an inhouse test climb with the Yonder crew and studio family last week, reports are...it's good!
There are still plenty of finishing touches to keep us busy until open, not to mention a healthy dose of building site dust and debris removal to do, but we are nearly there and we cannot wait to invite you all in!

She's about to embark on a mega bike ride to fund-raise for Khora, an amazing project in Athens. Khora is a grassroots, proactive association running a community centre in Athens. Their centre provides basic and human needs for people without freedom of movement. This inc...ludes free nutritious food, clothing, education, legal aid, access to information and a safe space to build relationships and relax. It makes a huge difference to many people's quality of life and provides essential services for refugees from all over the world.

Had an amazing night with some of the Yonder Studio Family. Our first opportunity to throw some of the matts down and test some routes, our beautiful sound system and get some all important feedback! 👏👌😀These guys have been with us for almost a year now and have certainly become part of the fabric! The final panels have gone on and it is something else to finally stand under the COMP WALL in its entirety. We now have every single piece of the puzzle complete when it comes to the climbing walls! Incredibly exciting day seeing the final panels go on the ANGLE CHANGING CIRCUIT BOARD! This thing is an absolute monster and its allmost a trickery on the eye seeing something this big move so smoothly. Our master chippie @wood_ferrett has worked his butt off to bring this thing to life!!! 👏👏👏 We have used a massive roller shutter mechanism to allow the board to move which means you lot have a pretty casual ⬆️⬇️ button to press and all is taken care of! Going to be super interesting to see all the different ways people will put it to use. #community #engineeringdesign @ Yonder

Here is Tommy working his magic once again on our Evaporative Cooling System. This is one of the most eco friendly and powerful cooling / filtration systems you can use. So lucky to have him work his magic for us. It uses sensors all around the building to check Temperature / humidity / CO2 and oxygen levels and will adjust the amount of fresh, cooled air it brings into the room accordingly. Had the privilege to get a little preview of the work in progress. The wall shapes are incredible and inspiring. A class route setting from some of the biggest names out there. Training area looks amazing with the huge angle changing circuit board... Needless to say I'm looking forward to the big opening!
