About 3Rd Regiment Royal Horse Artillery

This is the official Facebook presence for 3rd Regiment Royal Horse Artillery, a Joint Fires co-ordination regiment of the British Army.

3Rd Regiment Royal Horse Artillery Description

3rd Regiment Royal Horse Artillery is a Close Support Artillery Regiment, which has been based in Germany for 17 years but is now moving to Albemarle Barracks just outside Newcastle-upon-Tyne. The Regiment is equipped with the L118 Light Gun and is a part of 1st Artillery Brigade and the Adaptive Force of the British Army, meaning there is a huge variety of training exercises and exciting opportunities across the world.

The Regiment consists of 5 Batteries, C, D, J (Sidi Rezegh), M (Headquarters) Battery and N Battery (The Eagle Troop). The batteries are supported by the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME) and small detachments from the Adjutant General Corps (SPS), Royal Army Medical Corps (RAMC) and the Royal Logistics Corps (RLC).

The Batteries of the Regiment have existed since 1st November 1793. The modern Regiment, as we see it today, was formed at Abbassia Barracks, Cairo, on the 27th August 1938 and since that day has played a key role in every operation that Great Britain has been involved in all across the world. More recently The Regiment has served in Northern Ireland Bosnia and Cyprus as well as multiple tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan.

3rd Regiment Royal Horse Artillery enjoys a rich history based upon historical lineage but drawing from our touchstone of the Desert Rats from 1941 and includes twice winning the Wilkinson Sword of Peace (in 1970 and 2003). The Regiment moves to Newcastle this summer having recently converted from a tracked AS90 Regiment to a wheeled Light Gun Regiment.

The Gun Gp from D Bty RHA are back-in from the training area in Kenya and have been raising smiles by donating toys to a local orphanage. Top work Shiny D (and all looking very sharp, as usual!).

Today Bdr Claven and LBdr Baker ran a 'look at life in C Troop' day for those in C Bty RHA to identify the next crop of soldiers with a desire to join the Tac Group. A great effort that has already yielded results - well done. πŸ’₯

This morning it is a huge congratulations to the Regimental Sergeant Major, who has been selected for a Late Entry Commission.
The Board was very tight this year: our commiserations to those quality candidates who did not quite make it this time.
Well done RSM, fresh challenges await in 2019! πŸ‘πŸ’ͺ

Today BC L (NΓ©ry) had the delight of promoting LCoH Bool of the LGs. LCoH Bool plays a vital role with the TACP, permanently established as part of the Battery from the Household Cavalry Regiment. Well done and well deserved.

Team 3rd - The Robin Hood Inn never fail to support the Regiment with vouchers or prizes for charity, family or welfare events.
If you can get down there tomorrow to support their MacMillan Coffee Morning then it would be much appreciated.
Out of camp and turn right for 1.5 miles.

The CO and RSM had the honour of attending Fiji Day celebrations today in Catterick with soldiers and families of 3 RHA.
Outstanding hospitality! A huge thank you to all of our 3 RHA Fijian brethren, celebrating at events up and down the country today, for the professionalism, culture and comradeship your unique community brings to the Regiment.
Good to bump into Lieutenant General Nugee, a former BC D Bty, and CO & RSM 4 Regt RA, who definitely had us on the shirts. And ...some members of the crowd wanted to send their best wishes to Sgt Keni Raqila, working hard out on exercise, and unable to join the party today πŸ‡«πŸ‡― πŸ‡«πŸ‡―

Many thanks to the members of Team 3rd who helped run the leadership day today for the Police Inspectors from Northumbria Police Northern Command. Very well received, and some really good reciprocal activity with them on the horizon next month.
Very well done to the presenters, and to SSgt Sargent, SSgt Lincoln, SSgt Eskirett, SSgt Thomson, SSgt Ellis, Sgt Shaw, Bdr Ho and LBdr Geer for the military activities, and to Cpl Graham for lunch πŸ‘πŸ’ͺ

Today the Regiment has soldiers training in Kenya and travelling to exercises in Lincolnshire and Norway.
We have also delivered some great support to Active Northumberland by providing marshallers, car park assistants, competitors and a Lt Gun detachment to the Kielder Marathon weekend.
Well done Sgt Shaw for coordinating and for starting the race, and well done Bdr Ho, Bdr Tutudua and team for achieving what no other agency could do - recovering an ambulance from a down...ward slope using kit borrowed from the Fire Brigade. Strong! πŸ’ͺ
Oh, and we met legendary olympian decathlete Daley Thompson and his McClaren car!

Soldiers from the Regiment have just returned from a visit to our twinned German artillery regiment, 325 Panzer Artillerie Battalion, on exercise in Northern Germany.
The troops trained on a variety of weapon systems, and also had chance to visit the U-Boat museum in Kiel.
Great times! πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ πŸ‡©πŸ‡ͺ πŸ‘

Yesterday the CO and SSI were invited to toast the opening of the new Physio&Therapy branch in Hexham. As well as offering specialist treatment, training advice and classes such as yoga and Pilates, they are showing their support for the Armed Forces with a generous discount. So, if you’re getting a bit older or stiffer or simply want to loosen up, you’ll find them on the Tesco roundabout!
Those of you who are competing or volunteering at the Kielder running events next wee...kend will see them there. You’ll also spot international athlete and running legend Steve Cram, pictured below, who is organising the races - he too is a huge supporter for the Armed Forces so be sure to say hello πŸ‘πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈπŸƒπŸΌβ€β™€οΈ

Such fond memories of the Regiment. So many amazing people and great that I still see so many of them. Love wearing my rose tinted spectacles to the reunion dinners!

SSgt Mack McLenahan, I served with the Regiments LIght Aid Detachment in Caen Barracks, 2005-2008. It was my final tour of my 22 years service and looking back, one of the best. Excellent memories from a excellent Regiment, great to see that you're still pursuing excellence.

My first regiment on leaving JLRRA in 1984, C Bty clerk with Bdr Alan Guilfoyle taking me under his wing. A lifetime seems to have passed as I near the end of my second career as a police officer. Proud to have been part of your history and grateful for some wonderful memories. Best regards, an old (but not too old and would still be a member of the C Bty drinking team!) Gunner.

User

Liked it so much the first time round, i decieded to go back. ;)
