Just a little warning regarding the Xmas treat many stores are now starting to stock for dogs at xmas.
Many of these so called treats end up with the dog "enjoying" some time in a veterinary surgery over Christmas.
The vast majority of these rawhide products and treats come from China.
... The chews are made from cattle or horse hides and their journey starts with the hides being soaked in a toxic sodium sulphide to remove the hair and fat. More chemicals are used in order to split the hide into layers which is then washed with hydrogen peroxide to give the white "pure" look and remove the rancid smell. Now comes the pretty festive colours and the glue to form cute shapes. On testing, these chews have shown traces of arsenic, mercury, chromium and formaldehyde.
If that wasn't bad enough, they regularly cause intestinal blockages, poisoning from chemical residue and choking. The chews go slippery when wet and are near impossible to get hold of to save a choking dog.
Leave them in the shop where they belong or if some well meaning person buys them for your dog put them safely away for later, then dispatch in the bin!
Please be safe with your dogs!

We had our session with Vicki today. I have never seen my dog behave in that way with someone she doesn’t know. It was incredible. Vicki literally had Esta eating out the palm of her hand within minutes. We have begun to use Vicki’s training methods and, even though it has only been half a day, we have seen a huge difference and we’re feeling very optimistic about the future.

We had a visit from Vicki this afternoon to help us to deal with some problem behaviours with our two labradors. As soon as she arrived she made an instant impact and I could see a change in the dogs in the first 10 minutes. She listened to our issues and suggested and modelled appropriate techniques to help us overcome them. She supported us outside with lead work and I honestly can not believe the change we saw in our dogs in the first hour. She left leaving us feeling confident to continue the training and we can’t wait to see them progress. Day 1 and we have seen a positive change already. Thanks Vicki!

We had Vicki round yesterday to assess and help with our lovely but very excitable dog Daisy. Wow she is just brilliant, we have seen other dog trainers but unfortunately saw no real improvement. After just one visit from Vicki we are already seeing a big difference in Daisy, Vicki spent time talking with us about the problems we have and the way forward, such as getting overly excited when visitors come and pulling so bad on walks that it is no pleasure to take her out. We have tried haltis/harnesses and found no difference, after 5 minutes Vicki had her walking to heel! We know we've got a long way to go and a lot of hard work but we are already feeling much more positive. Thanks so much Vicki!

We had Vicki over after enough was enough with our dog Roxie. She was getting a little to big for her boots refusing to come back if we let her off the lead - I spent 45 minutes trying to catch her one day! She pulled so much on the lead we bought a halti - before long she was pulling me through that. Within 5 mins Roxie was walking to heel with Vicki's help. Don't get me wrong she is still testing us a little but is much much better on the lead after one day and with some time and effort I'm confident she will be perfect! Thanks Vicki - looking forwards to walking her now instead of being filled with dread!

Vicki came to visit yesterday & we are already seeing big improvements......early days but confidence is on a high. Vicki visually showed us how well behaved Milo could be while out walking and within the home. The knowledge Vicki had given us is already working & changes she asked us to make were been put in place as soon as she left. Walks have been easier & less daunting having been shown the skills to manage......hoping these get even more easier. Our mission is to be able to take him camping without been kicked off a site I currently have a very relaxed Milo laid on the floor in front of me....and not smothering me. I put off getting in touch with Vicki & so wish I hadn’t.....I can only thank the rude lady that give me the push to message her. A huge thankyou to you Vicki for telling us exactly what we needed to hear can’t wait for your next visit xx

Vicki came to see Buddy on Sunday and after explaining our problems with Buddy, she told us where we were going wrong and explained what we must do to correct it, after a short demonstration with buddy who jumps up at everybody, within 10 mins we had a positive result, although it hasn't stopped him jumping yet, we are confident that by following Vicki's instructions it will soon stop, Vicki also showed how to control him on the lead by demonstration, it is now a pleasure to take him for a walk and walk to heel, and it has taken just two days to achieve this, we would highly recommend BARKERS DOG TRAINING at home and if we ever had any other problems with Buddy we wouldn't hesitate to go back for assistance, we would just like to thank Vicki for all her help.

Vicki came round yesterday afternoon to work her magic on our boxer milo. When we have visitors he turns into a lunatic jumping up, grabbing tea towls and generally causing mayhem. Within 5 minutes he was laid on the floor as if nothing had happened. She also helped us to reduce his excitment when getting ready to go for walks which has worked wonders. We've now got a dog which is much calmer and walking to heel and this is only day one.

We've taken him to other classes for over 18 months which has taught him other behaviours such as tracking and retreiving but never managed to sort his issues in the house.

Thumbs up to vicki

Vicki came to help with my new puppy Luna, turns out our problems are mostly with our older dog and ourselves. Vicki has advised us on new ways to interact with our dogs and while some of this seemed quite basic I couldn't believe how much we have done wrong. I do think that with patience and endurance we will end up with the result we want .

Highly recommend to anyone no matter how big or small your problems are , lovely lady

So after Vicki came to my house on Sunday myself and my husband thought it was our younger dog who was the issue however turns out it’s the behavior of our older dog. We were so shocked to hear this as we thought our Youngest dog was the one who was aggressive. But after been given a program to help first full day and I can honestly say wow. Our younger dog seems more confident on walks our older dog now doesn’t come on the sofa both now sleep on beds in the living leaving myself to spend quality time with my husband, it’s only 1st day and still very early but the results are showing was very surprised as thought it would never happen but going well I would love to have a dog walk weekly to help with my collie being more confident with other dogs but I would definitely recommend as I am gob smacked with results I’m seeing so quickly. It’s nice to see our younger dog coming out her shell and gaining the confidence I’ve always wanted her to have.

So Vicki called today for some at home training as i contacted her about my 14 month old who had been attacked and i was struggling to walk him amongst other dogs. i also have an 11 year old spaniel and it turned out he was my major problem in the house. In walks Vicki and teaches me where i'm going wrong and the changes started immediately .....to put it bluntly she is bloody amazing !!!! We then went out and walked both of them...at heel...calmly down the road....just amazing!!1

i am so excited about moving forward and walking out with my boys and i wont hesitate to contact her if i ever have issues in the future.

If you are struggling and want you and your dog to be safe and happy she is well worth every penny !!!

User

Really enjoyed the advice and training we have received from Vicki. I used to dread taking my dogs out for a walk as as soon as we saw another dog, my oldest, Ollie would bark, whine and walk along on his back legs until the other dog was out of sight. 2 weeks in and we have already socialised with other dogs and walked along side Dexter for over an hour ! He really is a different dog. I will continue the training now that I know what I'm doing and I know he will only get better.

Thank you Vicki, and thank you Nic for meeting up with us xx

Looking forward to more organised meet and greets with other doggies

Our 18 month old Springer had a few issues to say the least! We thought we would have to live with it but a chance encounter upon meeting Vicki Barker and our issues are resolved (they were actually two weeks in!)

*goading at dogs on the lead to the point we hated taking him out.

*couldn't stand and talk to a dog and owner on lead at all

*like a tornado in the house jumping across the sofas, and licking people and jumping up all the time

*didnt follow our commands

*steam train on lead

*demanding with us and wanted to play with us and have our attention ALL the time

Vicki was so lovely in saying it was US that needed to change.... gave us a plan, was with us 100% of the way!

Well I can honestly say all the above are sorted - totally nailed! Yes it was hard work - yes A couple of times he has barked at dogs but nothing like before at all!

Totally chilled pooch, owners and house! She's a miracle worker!

Just got a new puppy and didnt know how to stop him from nipping/mouthing. Vikki came and gave me some great advice to put in place so far so good alot of hard work to go time to put it all in practice. :) couldnt be happier xx

I have just had a visit from Vicki this afternoon to help with our puppy Rudy, a jack russell, as I was struggling to know exactly the right way to train him. Vicki was able to show me where I was going wrong and also give me simple ways to change certain behaviour such as jumping up/ biting furniture. I can honestly say that after her visit he is like a completely different dog- much calmer and so far no biting. Training him to go outside to the toilet will take time but I now feel confident he will learn this. I could not recommend Vicki more- brilliant!

I called Vicki as we were having issues with one of my dogs being unable to associate with my daughter's dog. My dog, Sally is an anxious dog and scared of Lexi (daughter's). When Vicki arrived we spent time in the garden chatting about the issues whilst, as it turned out, educating us on what we needed to do in the best interest of all the dogs. We then went in to the house and started the process of getting all the dogs settled. It was amazing to see Sally physically relax to the point that she was happy lying down in near vicinity to Lexi, something she had never done before. We then took the dogs outside, where Vicki had them walking to heel within minutes and had my husband beaming at being able to walk the dogs without them pulling. She advised us on collars and leads we should be using, rather than the extendable leads which, to be frank, are a waste of time if you want to control your dog. We have continued our training (and I mean us, not the dogs) and things are improving all the time. There's still a way to go before Sally and Lexi become friends but I can see light at the end of the tunnel, whereas before Vicki intervened there was none. Also, on a personal level, Vicki is a warm hearted girl who explained all the steps and why we needed to do things to get it right for the dogs. I really appreciate this. I would recommend Vicki to anyone who has an issue with their dog(s).

Highly recommend Barkers Dog Training. We had a puggle puppy and were at the end of our tether with her behaviour. She had numerous issues including nipping which had progressed to biting, stealing food and a long list of other bad behaviour. Nicola was great organising the visit and putting up with my random messages. Vicki came out to see us and carried out an assessment. After a long discussion about her behaviour Vicki identified she had various aggression issues & in view of the biting recommended we rehome her to safeguard the children (even though this meant she would be doing herself out of work). Vicki helped, guided & supported me through getting her rehomed as none of the big /national dog shelters would take her. Can't thank you enough for your help & support xxx

User

Had Vikki around today, for our two pugs Frankie and benny. As soon as she walked in and started with my eldest you could see the improvement straight away and she’d only been here half an hour. Will keep on top of the work she’s started today! Can’t wait for the final results! Thank you, outstanding! Puts everything very clear so you’re able to understand what is needed to be done.

Had Vicki round a few weeks ago to help us with Paddy our short haired Collie. Paddy can be aggressive with other dogs and we felt that we needed some help to try and sort. Vicki pointed out the errors we were making which included the use of an extendable lead. We now have Paddy on a short lead and collar, we found that even after a couple of days, Paddy behavior had improved in the house (he now doesn't attack the hoover) and when we are out. Paddy now walks to heel and doesn't react half as much with other dogs. Vicki is coming for her second visit tonight and i am hoping that Paddy shows his improvements. Extremely pleased with the service and would definitely recommend

User

Had Vicki out today and the behaviour of Cody already is noticeable. She has taught us a lot about what we are doing wrong as a family and it’s not all Cody. Would really recommend and looking forward to starting our training!
