User

My sister and I had an eggs-ceedingly good Easter breakfast today...I don't actually eat eggs but the staff are super lovely and don't mind if you're a bit finicky when it comes to choosing what to have with your brekkie :)

User

My favourite place for catch up with friends or family. Lovely food & staff are polite & very helpful.

User

Love Blake's, especially love the fact you can get breakfast until 2pm, sometimes all you want is Salsa Eggs in your life!!! my only complaint would be they need extra chilli!!! - especially if you're feeling a little worse for wear from the night before! ;)

User

Had a fantastic breakfast yesterday! Sat at the window and people watched for a while, very chilled.

User

Great place, lovely food and excellent service. Set us up for the Sunday shopping in Newcastle. We will go back next time we visit now we have discovered the place.

User

Eggs benedict and a latte on a sunny Sunday morning. Served by really nice staff, what else do you need in life.

User

Eggs Benedict Blakes style great food, great location, great service #topnotch

User

Called in and had a full English breakfast. It was our first visit and will definitely be going back. Absolutely lovely.

User

Been coming to this crackin little eatery for a number of years now, in fact all my family frequent Blakes... never disappointed. Friendly helpful staff and brill food.

User

Ar got the most amazing stottie

User

Always pop in for coffee or breakfast before I go to work staff very friendly and lovely atmosphere food good too

User

Very pretty staff... Eggs Benedict really shouldn't come on toast though... Thankfully the pretty staff took my attention off it...

User

Very handy - on the corner of Grey Street & High Bridge. Really close to Theatre Royal. Nice food and reasonable prices. Definitely use again instead of hotel breakfast.

User

Nice place for a quick lunch. Comfortable and cozy. Tables were cleared quickly. This is a very positive factor for me because if i go into a café and the tables are not cleared I walk out again. No way am I sittling down to someone else dirty dishes.

User

Lovely staff and the food is always good. We often go to Blakes when we're in Newcastle upon Tyne

User

Lovely place - excellent sandwiches, helpful and friendly staff and good value. We always come back here 😊👍

User

Loved the community closeness in the restaurant. Place was a buzz of conversation. Food was good although too many beans. We weren't given a choice of brown or white toast which would have been offered. Tea wasn't to my liking either, quite strong and bitter tasting but that's a personal choice. All in all good value.

User

It is what it is, a quirky little diner on one of the most popular streets in Newcastle, surrounded by trendy bars and restaurants as well as shops and the theatre Royal, I was in Newcastle yesterday to have my motorcycle serviced on Scotswood Road, it was a two hour job so I walked to Blakes around a mile or more? I passed many, and I mean many eateries along the way but I still preferred the quiet ambiance of Blakes. Staff, food and price, all good and a good varied selection of food and drinks, including Peroni and a small selection of other alcoholic tipples. :-)

User

Great breakfast and tea, Earl Grey of course. Bacon stottie was fresh and delicious although the full breakfast looked really good. Cosy and comfortable and in a great location in the city centre. Service was efficient and friendly. I'd visit again.

User

Good place to have a quick lunch. Good coffee and paninis. Good friendly service. A little on the pricey side.

User

Friendly and laid back atmosphere. Reasonably priced for food and drink so I would definitely come back!

User

Breakfast was outstanding, quiche perfect, nice feeling about the place, shame no baby changing facilities.

User

No gluten free opportunities asks staff and was looked at strangely but still enjoyed my breakfast

User

Nice enough but it is the only coffee shop in the world that has never heard of a cafetiere!!!

User

I am coeliac, and had heard Blakes had a GF menu, as well as a quick search online informing me there were 'gluten free options'. When I approached the counter to ask for the GF menu, the waitress told me with a blank look that they didn't have one. So I then asked, rather than being offered any alternative or apology, whether they could adapt anything on the menu or tell me what is gluten-free. She said no they couldn't. This is whilst I can clearly see options on their menu I know are gluten-free without adaptation, and yet weren't being suggested to me. So instead I had to enquire further as to why I couldn't have the jacket potatoes, with a basic filling of cheese or beans, or why scrambled egg on a bed of spinach with ham, wasn't gluten-free. Two trips to the kitchen later, and without production of the legally required allergen specifications which I requested to see, the waitress still seemed none the wiser and all she had offered me was olives or feta in a jacket potato! After keeping my parents waiting for too long already, I settled for scrambled egg with chili and smoked salmon. On the very vague assurance that there was no risk of contamination. When all our meals came, they were barely hot, and served with no care or decoration on the plate. Albeit a sizable portion, £6.50 for some sliced salmon on one half of the plate and a pan of scrambled eggs tipped out on the other was more than overpriced. Overall three very average meals, in an environment where the staff didn't have a clue about dietary requirements! Certainly wouldn't recommend or return for food. Atmosphere and restaurant furniture is attractive, but not reaching its potential as an eatery. Staff also ought to have some uniformity rather than hoodies and casual clothes which make them unidentifiable.

User

Eggs Benedict...muffin barely toasted and hollandaise sauce not much taste.

Pancakes with bacon and maple....swimming in syrup almost to sweet to eat.

Always had great good food here left a little let down

User

Such a shame to be greatly honest. Been many times before and it’s been amazing, but today came in for a full English and had a hair on my plate, I then took it back over to the counter to watch the man remove the hair from the plate and bring the same breakfast over to me. The girls were so understanding and got the plate switched to a fresh one but to actually watch the man remove his hair and bring the same plate over to me was disgraceful. Unfortunately won’t be returning after this unsavoury gesture by that gentleman.

User

I was very disappointed with the attitude of your staff following a visit to your Newcastle store today. I felt violently ill and vomitted immediately after having one of the Marie Rose Prawn sandwiches. I made no fuss and, following a visit to the toilet, quietly spoke to one of the waitresses at the kitchen entrance, away from the front counter so as to avoid making an issue.

Stating that I thought the prawns may have been off, I was met by a tirade of abuse from a woman calling herself the chef. 'I am a fully trained chef and would NEVER put out prawns that are off, I can assure you there is nothing wrong with them!'. No apologies, no compassion towards the customer and not a nice experience when feeling decidedly ill. I was made to feel like the one in the wrong and that I had personally caused a major insult.

Needless to say I will not be visiting one of your stores again, very dissatisfied with how your staff treat the customers.

User

Extremely disappointed with that absolute rip off so called "full monty" breakfast,it's went right down hill, bacon underdone, sausage underdone, black pudding underdone, eggs over done and a tiny glass of cheap fresh orange in a little plastic cup tho,,£10 it's definitely not worth that, very small ,,,such a shame
