Went for Afternoon Tea on the 19th of Feb for a belated birthday present. Arrived 20 minutes early, which wasn't a problem for Harry our server. Was sat down and picked what kind of high tea we wanted and was served quickly. The food was amazing, and Harry was lovely as ever, offering to take our photo and everything. One of my friends arrived late and this was accommodated easily. Ordered more cocktails when she arrived, which to our disappointment they had run out of, but our server was lovely and helped us choose another one. Slight mix up with drinks but this was solved easily and efficiently. Will deffo recommend and come back again for my 25th Birthday.

User

We came for a girly Sunday lunch here yesterday (10.6.2018) Timely friendly service from our waiter Valentin, lovely champagne and beautiful beef Sunday lunch followed by apple and gooseberry crumble with ice cream for afters. Will definitely be returning 😊

User

I was a bit concerned after reading the reviews but our visit was lovely. 7 of us had lunch today a Friday afternoon. food was nice, half price cocktails delicious and the waiter Valintin was very attentive.

User

I left my wallet on the bar last night as my wife and I had a few drinks and ended up in Fat Buddha. Halfway through the meal I realised I lost my wallet. We went back up Brown's and the bar staff had spotted it and handed it in. All my cards and money was still in (£70). Thank you for your honest and hard working staff. All the best.

User

Brilliant service, gorgeous food, and cocktails are out of this world, will definitely be back

User

Always great food. Favourite place for a quick bite in town. Relaxed bar type atmosphere

User

I visited Brown's last night for early dinner with friends. Food was lovely with the exception of the side vegetables, the red cabbage was hard and they had done something with the spouts that didn't work. They were awful. Cocktails were Fab! Our bill was wrong and took ages to sort out, which wad annoying as they should get it right first time and not over charge by £25. However we will return.

User

Had the eggs benedict and it was the best I’ve had in this country ! Well done browns !

User

Waiter very nice but the cream tea was a let down. Scones hard and very dry. Wouldn't go again. Shame

User

Shown to seats and left for nearly half an hour. Need to take drinks order when your getting seated. Food ok but pricey for what it is. Wont be in a hurry to go back.

User

Went there yesterday lunch time and the quality of the food served did not match the prices and we had an issue with the service charge. I have emailed them with my remarks but not had a reply yet. Won't be going back..

User

We ate before the theatre and the food wasn’t great for me but the waiter gave me a free drink whic was nice, it’s the 2nd time I’ve ate here and the 1st was amazing so hopefully just a bad day? Staff were great and the drinks really good but when the bills £170 for 4 people id like nice food every time x x

User

So I booked this for 4 of us girls as a treat and a good excuse to catch up! When we arrived it was empty and eventually after standing about for 5 were met by guy, I explained I had booked afternoon tea, he replied saying he was a bar tender not a waiter so could we wait a bit longer, 10 mins later we were seated - we placed our order stating about allergies and waited 35 mins for drinks to appear before the afternoon tea which was very average but also the sandwiches were all together so the fact we had made a point about an allergy was overlooked. Just to add to the disappointment there was no further waiter service for unknown reason and had to go to the bar for every drink!! Safe to say the service charge was removed and overall very very poor service for afternoon tea especially - so disappointed

User

Lovely surroundings, pleasant, friendly staff but food pretty mediocre. We went for breakfast yesterday morning and for £25 for two people the food was just hot enough and the portion sizes pretty small. It was ok but I’ve deginitely had better elsewhere.

User

Five of us visited today for Sunday lunch. We sat down at 2.30 and didn't get our drinks until 3.10. We waited an hour and twenty minutes for our main meal and the Beef Sunday lunches had definitely been sitting under heat for a while as the gravy had a skin on it. The rest of the food was nice but the service totally let it down. First time here and will not be returning... disappointing.

User

What an awful afternoon tea! We had pre booked here for a leaving do for work and the place was fairly empty so we assumed we would have good service considering they knew we were coming and there weren't many customers on site. It took 50 minutes for the afternoon tea to be served to us, when it was - we asked for the scones to come out straight away in takeaway boxes as we had to leave. Waited a further 15 minutes for the scones to be delivered to the table for those of us who were staying and another 5-10 minutes for the scones in the take away boxes to be delivered! (even though the staff were aware half of us had to leave.) When we repeatedly asked for the takeaway scones the waiter was rude and said we needed to have come and found him earlier to tell him (we had asked him to bring the scones when he served the sandwiches) and when we tried to find him he was nowhere to be seen. We had asked 4 times for jugs of water to be delivered to the table from the same waiter and only had luck after we asked a server from a different table. Shocking service. I hope the rest of my party didn't pay the service charge after I left. £20 for the worst afternoon tea I have ever had - rip off

User

We went this afternoon as a party of around 10 (having already booked and payed a deposit ahead of time). We sat down at 3pm and didn’t receive any food until 3.55 - despite having booked in for 8 people for afternoon tea in advance, and with the restaurant being very quiet.

By this point everybody had therefore finished their tea and coffee so had no drinks, and we had to ask 5 times for water for the table.

We were then absolutely shocked at the amount of food that came out - charging £18.95 for the tiny amount of food was an absolute disgrace.

When we received the food a number of us had asked if we could have our scones in a box to go immediately as service had taken so long we needed to leave - I ended up having to leave without my scone and a friend who left at 20 minutes after me said she still hadn’t received her scone so just had to leave without it too.

We were hugely disappointed by the quality of service, amount of food and price - absolute daylight robbery!

User

Most disappointing dining experience. We took our Mum's for afternoon tea. Poor customer service, appalling food quality and when we complained the Manager on duty didn't even bother to find out what we were complaining about. What we thought was going ti be a well planned xmas celebration with our elderly Parents turned out to be a huge disappointment

User

I don't know where to start, it was awful from start to finish. We visited there today for a family birthday, and it quite Frankly ruined my birthday. First of all, on arrival it took a while to be greeted. When we sat down we were just left there, no-one to take drink orders. Our time was limited because my sister had a train to catch. The slow service did not help. We asked 3 times for a jug of water, Stefan, our server rolled his eyes when my sister asked him again for water. I understand this I should a busy time of year but I work in hospitality myself and that is no way to treat a customer. Having eventually got the water, we then had to ask someone to take our order. Someone asked if everything was alright when we were all almost finished! We got the bill and we where aghast, a £5 optional service charge had been added. We had all agreed the service (or absolute lack of did not) deserve a tip. Our server had entered the amount for the bill along with the £5 tip, into the PDQ machine, not giving my brother (who was paying for it) the chance to refuse the service charge. My sister pressed cancel and removed his card, voiding the transaction. We called our server over and his response was disgusting. He said something along the lines of "you've voided it now, I have to start again". Having worked in hospitality, in bars in Newcastle, I am fully aware of the procedures involved when someone does not want to pay the service charge. He grabbed the receipt and threw it on the table, and walked off. We honestly could not wait to get out of there. The only polite, friendly service we received was from the young girl, with darkish hair. Our visit was 17:00 today.

I really couldn't stress enough how bad the service was, and it ruined my birthday meal. For a family get together that only happens once a year, I would not be choosing Browns ever again. They have really let themselves down.
