This week, we have been making rainforest dioramas (3D models) of the Amazon Rainforest. We have been learning about the environment, animals and plants that might be found there. Using paint, tissue paper and pipe cleaners we have tried to create a realistic looking diorama of the rainforest. We have had lots of fun!

In Year 4, we have been learning about The Great War. A soldier called John came to visit us and brought loads of interesting World War One artefacts and replicas.
It was a great day and we learnt so much! We explored the WW1 soldiers equipment, which taught us what life was like for soldiers in The Great War.
Soldier John showed us how to use the binoculars, kit pack, telephone, first aid kit, helmet and so much more.

In Year 2, we had a hoot of a time when some real life Owls came to visit us! We met a Barn owl called Albert, an Indian Eagle Owl and Harry the Hawk. We also stroked a Baby Spectacled Owl and helped to name her! This gave us a gliding start to our class novel, The Owl Who Was Afraid Of The Dark.

60 children from Years 4, 5 and 6 were specially chosen to go on a very special trip on Friday – to see a show performed by Diary of a Wimpy Kid author, Jeff Kinney. The children had a fantastic time and even got to go on stage to take part in a trivia quiz – which they won! In the words of Hassan from Year 4, it was the best day ever!

As some of you may know, we have been working very hard to get our campaign, 'Keep Benwell Clean', up and running.
Canning Street Primary School are currently trying to educate people about why we shouldn't litter and the importance of disposing rubbish correctly.
Today our local MP, Chi Onwurah, visited Canning Street and listened to our campaign. She was very impressed with how much work the children have put in and said it was one of the best campaign speeches she has eve...r heard! She also said she would support us with our efforts to keep the streets clean!
Well done to the children of Canning Street for all of your hard work and thanks for coming in to see us, Chi!

Year 6 started learning all about fractions this week. To begin the unit, the children created different fractions using lots of different representations. Here are a few pictures of them in action!
