The Michaelmas term starts a month today - congratulations to everyone joining Durham!
During Freshers Week, Castle Chapel will be auditioning singers for the 2018/19 choir. The choir sings at Evensong every Thursday and Eucharist every Sunday morning with additional services as appropriate. There are also termly services in Durham Cathedral, two concerts and a tour to Europe each summer.
In addition, eight choral scholarships are available - these come with extra duties and ...a stipend of £250.
This is a superb opportunity to sing regularly at a very high level. Anyone can audition; you do not have to be in Castle to sing in the choir.
If you have any questions please get in touch with this year’s Director of Music, Will Sims at william.sims@durham.ac.uk or the Chaplain, Richard (Ric) Whaite at richard.p.whaite@durham.ac.uk. We will also be at the Freshers Fair on Tuesday 2nd and Wednesday 3rd October.
Details about signup for auditions will be released shortly.

It's that time of year again where every night there is a plethora of choices concerning which Christmassy event you should go to, but on Thursday evening (15th) there shall be no choice as it is Castle's carol service and it's going to be fantastic, you don't want to miss it...!! In the delightful setting of Tunstall Chapel the choir will be singing 7 pieces (including works by Britten, Lauridsen and Warlock) amidst everyone's favourite congregational carols and readings as well, of course. It's going to be an atmospheric and thoroughly enjoyable evening, plus, it's free (with a retiring collection)!! You really have no excuse not to come (Tunstall Chapel, 18:30, Thursday 15th, see you there).

This is Josh our new director! Josh meet everyone, everyone meet Josh 😊
"Josh is a second year student studying music and, having rediscovered the joys of choral music last year, is very much looking forward to conducting Castle Choir in the upcoming year. His preferred repertoire is slushy late 19th and 20th century compositions by the likes of Parry and Harris, extending as late as Whitacre. His other joys in life include tennis, board games and Pentatonix - their live version of Bruckner's "Christus Factus Est" is one of the best choral performances he's ever heard".
And yes this picture was taken in his bathroom as it was the only place in the house with the 'best lighting'....
