I feel so lucky to have found Croft Gothal. Unless my friend had tipped me off, we would never have known it was there. The house is welcoming, spacious, relaxed and 'home from home'. The kids love the swings in the garden and there is ample space to kick a football around and let the kids explore. The hosts, Jen and Des, are more than happy for the kids to help them feed the chickens and the eggs are the best in the world! We've had many bbq's whilst soaking up the fabulous panoramic views, heaven! It has all the mod cons but you won't need these as you have nature on your doorstep that you will want to drink up…

I love arriving and stocking up with fresh veg from the honesty box (known by our family as the 'rabbit hutch'!)at the start of the bumpy track that leads to the house. Delightful. This is just the beginning of the special feeling. The twisty, turny, rural drive leads us to Croft Gothal and already I feel myself relaxing into the most beautiful surroundings that Cornwall has to offer.

My children have in effect spent their summers here since they were little and have delighted in the wildlife, searching for badgers (or at least evidence of them!), seeing buzzards in action, dolphins, seals (good place to spot them is Godrevy – our record so far is 54 at the haul-out). There is a local train that takes you into St Ives and kids love the small train ride there from St Erth.

I love the fact we have long rural country walks on our doorstep but can nip to my most favourite beach (and I have been to many in my 35 years of visiting Cornwall!) at Prussia Cove.

A visit to the Sand Bar at Praa Sands is a must for it's relaxed atmosphere and spectacular sea views and the Sunday Lunch carvery is great. Be sure to book a table though as it is so popular with the locals and tourists and can get busy….

I have visited many other places in Cornwall but always find we return to Croft Gothal purely because we adore the location and the welcome we get from Jen and Des (who are also brilliant at advising on places to visit). Just don't tell everyone….
