About Doddington Dairy Milk Bar

The Milk Bar in Wooler, on the A697 roughly 1 /2way between Edinburgh & Newcastle, open for icecreams, great coffee, hot drinks, cakes & food. Takeaway too! NE71 6QE

Doddington Dairy Milk Bar Description

Doddington Dairy is a family-run farm that has been based in the Glendale valley in north Northumberland for three generations. Our aim is to produce quality products from only the best of ingredients and we now have the pleasure of extending this to the food and drink offerings here at the Milk Bar.

The Milk Bar at Wooler is itself a long-standing feature having been built by a local dairy farmer sometime in the 1930s. Many Wooler residents have fond memories of the Milk Bar and over the years it has become a favourite stop-off point, standing as it does on the A697 mid-way between Newcastle and Edinburgh.

We care deeply about the production and provenance of food and with this in mind, every effort has been made to source only the very best products, either handmade by ourselves or produced locally by people who share our passion.

As the weather changes people start to look for those comforting warmer foods. With this in mind our unique 'Cheesey Lentil and Butternut Squash' Pasties are a great lunch choice. These are all #milkbarmade by Emma and feature our own Doddington cheese for extra flavour, if you haven't had one yet then we recommend you try one! Served with optional salad and #milkbarmade coleslaw for £4.75.

It was great to see the Silver Fox Motorcyclists from Berwick on their circular route home - thanks for calling in! The #milkbar loves to see those bikes outside 🏍 🏍 🏍

User

On #internationalcoffeeday we’re giving a shout out to Pumphreys Coffee Newcastle who roast the Crema Espresso beans (in Blaydon) we use at the #milkbar. We tried an alternative for a while but customer feedback & preference brought us back to the original! #britishfoodfortnight

User

Thank you all for coming to our Macmillan Coffee Morning on Friday, for donating and for calling in for coffee, cakes and chat! We're pleased to let you know that thanks to your generosity the grand total of £519.26 was raised for Macmillan Cancer Support. 😁

User

Thank you - we really can’t ask for a better review than this... Anyone else like quiche?! 😜 #milkbarmade

What a lovely day, the end of September and the sun is shining! Sadly though we've said good bye to Jack who's heading back to university. The Milk Bar's loss is astrophysics gain! 🌠

User

Thanks Patrick, we had a great morning! Very lucky that the sun shone ☀️☀️ and generous customers and friends helped us raise money for such a worthwhile charity @macmillan 👍

User

Thank you for everyone who has donated prizes for tomorrow's Macmillan Coffee Morning (10-11.30am). A family ticket for the The Alnwick Garden, bags of hotmax from local Bedmax, a voucher from Florin of Wooler, wine from Milan Restaurant, along with several donations from individuals, who've very kindly popped them in to the Milk Bar. are all waiting to be won, so we can raise funds for this charity. Please come along for a chat, coffee and cake!

User

Busy sticking raffle tickets on tombola prizes tonight!
Thank you to Milan Restaurant for donating wine for our #macmillancoffeemorning on Friday 😃

During #britishfoodfortnight, we’re highlighting some of our local suppliers to the #milkbar.
We use a lot of eggs each week, both in our baking, as well as our breakfasts and lunches. These are all free range and delivered in weekly from Ord’s eggs, produced just up the road at Chatton Park Farm (approx 5 miles away).
We return the trays the eggs arrive on to be reused, so there is no packaging waste either 👍 We hope you agree they taste egg-straordinarily good!

We're taking part in the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning on Friday 28th September from 10-11.30am This is Macmillan’s biggest fundraising event for people facing cancer. We'll provide cakes and coffee/tea and all donations made in return, will be given to Macmillan to support those affected by cancer. We hope you'll also come along and have a chat! There will be a raffle and tombola, so any donations for this would be appreciated (just hand into the #Milkbar!)

Autumn is happening - seems like Maple & Banana waffles hit the spot!

I'm just going through some of the ideas that have been put in our 'Suggestion Box'. It generally makes me smile, as there are usually some interesting ideas and we appreciate that people take the time to fill in our slips. We take them all very seriously, although can't always do everything that everyone wants, but here are a few replies...
Why not play the Alnwicky CD?
We have been selling Alnwicky CD's over the summer and we could play it in the Milk Bar, but feel that o...n a loop it may become a little repetitive - so only occasionally!
Please use biodegradeable packing & drinks cups?
Happy to report that we are doing this - I will try and do a facebook post on this soon!
A great plan relating to benches at the front of the Milk Bar was submitted and is shown below. We love the idea, but as much as we might want to put benches out in this area, we feel that it may cause problems with cars and motorcycles that use this area regularly, as well as disabled access to the #milkbar. We would love to provide a bike rack, but space is limited, and so far haven't come to a good conclusion relating to a safe area to site this. If you can help us on this, like we say, we welcome all ideas?

Pick up & drop off points at the #milkbar 👍

Wonderful place - small, but perfectly formed. We had ice cream the day before, then returned yesterday for an excellent breakfast. My son and I had the full Northumberland breakfast, while others settled for eggs and coffee. Everything was delicious and brought promptly, despite only two ladies working there and several other guests to attend to. We also bought some Doddington cheese to take home with us. Highly recommended!

User

We had lovely milkshakes here today and my hubby enjoyed his pistachio and raspberry roulade. Friendly staff.

User

Top notch ice cream! Best I’ve ever tasted in the whole of the UK!

User

My second time visiting today and I was not disappointed! Drove all the way from Gateshead to have a milkshake and a cake. Shame I went down the pot hole not far from the Milk Bar and ruined my wheel on the way home my milkshake definitely cheered me up! 100% visiting again, hopefully the council fix the pot holes by then

User

Milkshakes are the mutts, staff very friendly and a nice atmosphere

User

Meet my friends here a couple a times a week. Amazing Coffees and delicious fruit scone with all the trimmings is my favourite. Lovely helpful staff. Nice relaxed atmosphere. Highly recommended

User

Lovely ice cream, good coffee, friendly staff. The cakes looked tempting too. It's quite small inside (seating for about 20) but there are a few tables in a little garden to the side and out front too. Great place to stop and "refuel" the family or in our case, get a reward for completing the excellent Wooler Wheel cycle sportive.

User

Love this place!!! ...went to meet a friend but couldn't find where I thought I should be going, and thought to myself 'I'll go and ask the lovely people in the cafe on South Road'...turned out that the Milkbar was where I was looking for in the first place!!! Amazing icecream (honey! Mmmm!!!), milkshakes, smoothies (mixed berry a personal favourite), and a great food menu too! An absolute gem!!!

User

Been here twice now for what can only be described as "THE BEST MILK SHAKE EVER"

i recommend trying the home made vanilla, but I'm sure every flavour is unreal!

User

Absolutely delicious, we ordered kinder bueno, oreo, and caramac milkshakes, a fruit smoothie and a strawberry ice cream they were all amazing and very reasonably priced... we will definitely be coming back... highly recommended x

User

A lovely wee place.

Indoor and outdoor seating .

No shade though unfortunately outside.

I recommend the ginger tingler

User

Went here today for lunch for the first time. The food was delicious, the place was spotlessly clean and well decorated, the staff were friendly and approachable. The only criticism I have is that the front of house staff seemed a bit unclear on the difference between cheese made with pasteurised milk and cheese made with unpasteurised milk. This is quite important to me as I’m pregnant and cannot eat dairy products made from unpasteurised milk. It was soon sorted out though and it didn’t spoil our visit at all. We will be returning!
