Charcoal toothpaste a ‘Gimmick’
According to a new review by the British Dental Journal, consumers should be warned that ‘gimmicky’ over the counter charcoal based toothpaste or powder, do not whiten teeth, and may have the potential to cause abrasion damage. Only 8% of charcoal toothpastes or powders contained Fluoride. In addition, there are possible health risks related to the possible inclusion of human carcinogenic poly aromatic hydrocarbons, sometimes found in charcoal

Emergency appointments Tuesday 7th
We have a limited number of emergency appointments on Tuesday. To book one- available to new and existing patients- telephone the surgery at 8.30 on Tuesday- first come, first served. DO NOT send an email, or Facebook request as these are the last to be dealt with. Our order of priority, when the surgery opens, is 1 Deal with patients in the waiting room... 2 Deal with telephone calls 3 Deal with any other forms of communication
Believe it or not, we have patients moaning that their appointment request, made at 2am, was not given priority!

BRING YOU CHILD FOR A CHECK UP!
Nearly 60% of children under 4 did not see a dentist last year, and overall 41% of children under 17 did not attend an NHS dental appointment in 2018. Sadly if their first appointment is when they have a problem, the experience can cause fear and lead to poor dental attendance throughout their lives. We strongly advise that children have their first check up, before they are one

STAFF PRIORITIES AT 8.30am
Our Reception staff have the following priorities when they start work at 8.30 1. Deal with the patients in the Waiting room 2. Deal with incoming telephone calls... and finally 3. Deal with emails
On that basis please don’t expect priority just because you mailed the Practice at 2am - don’t laugh, we had a complaint on that basis, today!

SNEAKY RASCALS!
Whilst you may have been watching the Brexit vote last night, the Government sneaked out the new Patients Charges ‘Tooth Tax’ from 1st April- 5% increase! Does that mean we’ll be getting a 5% pay rise? NOPE! - we are just Tooth Tax collectors! New Charges will apply for all examinations etc from 1st April. Book your check up before 1st April!

YOU‘RE BEING RIPPED OFF!
I’m totally stunned to find the difference in Dental Charges - a Government ‘tooth tax’ between England and Wales. Band 1 treatment England £21.60 Wales £14, Band 2 England £59.10 Wales £45, Band 3 England £256.50 Wales £195. Unbelievable! How much money, from English tax payers is wasted on this anomaly?

COULD FRUIT EXTRACTS PROVIDE THE KEY TO FIGHTING TOOTH DECAY? Scientists have found that nutrients found in cranberries and blueberries, can be highly effective in protecting teeth, against a strand of bacteria responsible for accelerating tooth decay. Known as polyphenols, these natural compounds are able to fend off harmful bacteria in the mouth, which can lead to decay. Dr Nigel Carter, Chief Exec of the Oral Health Foundation, believes polyphenols could eventually lead to new oral care products- ‘Cranberries seem especially good for Oral health, as their polyphenols stick around in our saliva, even after swallowing them’
