Good afternoon.
Apologies for the late notice but a lazy morning here at Drake Towers. This you can infer that we are not open to day but back bright eyed and bushy tailed at 9:30 tomorrow.
Happy Monday folks.

Do you need something g to do this lovely Sunday morning? Friends of Ropner Park spring event is on now. Come and see the new status and check out the stalls (and books) and find out more about Totally Locally Stockton

Good afternoon local independent businesses of Stockton and surrounds. I have sent a message to quite a few independent shops in Stockton about a project/campaign called Totally Locally which several of us think is a great thing to get involved in. Can you check your Facebook in boxes (I couldn't find everyone's email addresses) and let me know if you are interested in finding out more at a meeting at the bookshop next Tuesday.. Basically, it works around the premise that if ...every adult in the borough of Stockton spent £5 a week in an independent shop it would generate nearly £38m in the local economy. There is a national initiative happening in June which we think would be a good time to get started. more info here: https://totallylocally.org/stuff/what-is- totally-locally/ Thank you for indulging me and if you are interested please answer below or email the shop.

WOW! Who would have thought we would get on the national finals list for the FSB awards. 29 days to find a posh from for Richard!! (but seeing as we are representing the north the stereotype of not needing a coat ought to exist still)

User

Due to Chris Callaghan realising he had an excuse not to Skype with us on May 11th but not being able to find a similar excuse for May 4th (Star Wars Day and Super Car Saturday) YOUNG BOOKWORMS will now be on May 4th at 2pm.

You've still got time to rush down for this future classic. Failing that you might need to camp out on Friday night to ensure you're first in line on Saturday morning. What a book! Though I feel #SaturdayBoy may not agree with the tag line ;)

User

Your still have a little while to get stocked up for your Easter weekend. You could check out the half price shelf or the other awesome shelves too. However.... We are closed FRIDAY 19th and MONDAY 22nd. Normal service will be resumed on Saturday 20th and Tuesday 23rd.

What is Feminist Book Fortnight all about? Feminist Book Fortnight
Last year over 50 independent bookshops around the UK and Ireland launched Feminist Book Fortnight, a celebration of feminist books. Independent bookshops around the country highlighted the diversity of women's writing over the two weeks. It was a great success demonstrating a thirst for discussion of feminist issues as well as a wider celebration of women writers.

User

Quite a week, with events and school visits and staff meetings. Excitement levels up a notch with a confirmation email for an event with Ruth Hogan on July 7th. We may need to do a bit of work when it comes to shoes though!

User

following our fantastic - and extremely tasty - book launch and cooking demo with Dan Toombs yesterday we now have signed copies of Curry Guy Veggie in stock.

Middle Grade author Dan Smith will be joining us to sign copies of his books and talk about his latest, SHE WOLF. He will then join our Young Bookworms group to chat about the book that was last month's book choice.

User

What a lovely bookshop! I visited for the first time today with my two girls (age 5 and 2) to spend their World Book Day vouchers. They spent their vouchers and got two free books with additional vouchers AND book bags AND a clock AND Where's Wally posters and stickers! We'll certainly be back and I'll look forward to forging some links with Red House School in Norton :)

User

What a great addition to Stockton, fantastic range of books and being able to order any book in if it isn't in stock so quickly is great. Wishing you success in your new shop.

User

This a jewel of a bookshop and I can highly recommend it. I had a brilliant experience when I approached the owner on suggestions of books to buy my daughter in law for her birthday. I went back the next day and he explained all his choices and I made the final choices. My daughter in law loves the books and I loved the discussion on what to buy. Priceless!

User

Richard and Mel are the loveliest people ever and this shop is so homely and cosy! You can always rely on Richard for a great recommendation and best of all your leave with a smile on your face xx

User

Popped in here for the first time at lunchtime today. I could have spent an absolute fortune. The fabulous service from the two lovely ladies currently holding the fort just added to the experience, they were charming, helpful and very funny! I totally love this shop & it's great to see another independent retailer doing well in the Borough. I will definitely be back - I had to prise myself away from the most brilliant literature mugs after purchasing some books, one for the next visit me thinks!

User

Our family LOVE this bookshop! Recently got the chance for our son to meet Dan Walker author of Sky Thieves. Inspiring selection of books and a great community centric ethos. Richard thank you for being here in Stockton!

User

Lovely little book shop with an excellent selection of books! Owner was really friendly and clearly knew his stuff. Wish there was more bookshops like this!

User

I love this shop, it's got a great selection of books & lovely owners.

I really appreciate having a book ordered for me which i got within a few days. I can't wait to make a start on it!

Thank you

User

I love this place - I have ALWAYS received exceptional service from the staff and wonderful advice for what to buy for my son. The selection of children's books is the best. I whole heartedly reccomend this brilliant new independent book shop!

User

I love this bookshop. The owner is always helpful and he obviously works very hard between forging links with local schools and the community, as well as his different book clubs and special events in store. I really could spend all day there choosing a book to buy. My three nieces were all very happy with their recent purchases, diving straight into reading them once they got home.

User

I love bookshops and this one is no exception. What is exceptional is that it's an independent bookshop, something we once took for granted on the high street. Now we mostly have Waterstones, and even they have to compete with the Amazon behemoth.

It was a pleasure to meet Richard and Melanie when I called in last Saturday morning. They provide more than just a place to buy books. Bookshops are places to meet and be with other book lovers. It's particularly heartening to see children looking for books and discussing them with their parents.

I'm very much looking forward to my next visit for Tracey Iceton's book launch and trying not to order more books from my long wishlist!

User

I cannot recommend this independent book shop enough, I have just come from there today with my nephew (7years old) and we loved it!

The owners were wonderful, helpful and polite, stunning books and lovely environment, we will most certainly be spending more time here.

Thank you so much!

User

I can not recommend this independent book shop enough. In terms of bookshop it has a huge range of books for all interests and ages. They also have a selection of stunning books that you and your family will want to keep forever.

However it is the customer service, provided by the owners, that sets it apart. Their hospitality is so warm and welcoming, nothing is too much trouble, if they don't have a book in, they will order it for you.

As a mother of a 3yr old I think it is also important to comment that he is welcome too. They have a good range of toys to keep him busy, they are happy for him to look at books too and they offer a brilliant story time. Friday morning 10.30!

They are passionate about books and clearly love what they do. A huge asset to our community.

User

Had the pleasure of visiting Drake the book shop today with some Y2 pupils for a World Book Day session. Richard had the children captivated from beginning to end and made them feel so welcome! They had a great time sharing books with him and I spotted a few things on the bountiful shelves that I will be popping back for! What an amazing place and a charismatic owner!

User

Great selection of books for the size of the unit and really pleasant and personal service. You don't get that with the big chains! Good luck, I'm sure the kids will have me coming back time and time again!

User

Found this little shop in Silver Street today. What a gem. It is lovely and Richard the owner is full of information and good suggestions. There was no way I was going to leave without a book and the only problem was, which one? Will definitely be back. Tempted by the reading groups..... and some interesting author sessions coming up. One to watch for sure.

User

Brillaint, I have ordered a few books from Drake - great selection and when a certain book that I have been looking for has not been in stock, he has been able to get it in for me the next day. So much better to buy from Drake and avoid amazon! Could not recommend enough

User

A great little bookshop so pleased I found this. Owner was really friendly and helpful and even when I had messaged on Facebook to say I was popping in on Thursday to buy a certain book he said he would put it aside for me. I turned up a day early and the book was already awaiting me. Fantastic service I will definitely be back.

User

A fabulous independent bookshop, love the feel of the place and the effort you all go to. Nothing is too much trouble, and when we visit you always make us feel like long lost friends.
