About Durham Cathedral

Durham Cathedral is a place of worship, pilgrimage and spirituality. As one of Britain's most iconic buildings and a UNESCO World Heritage Site we welcome thousands of visitors every year. We look forward to welcoming you!

Durham Cathedral Description

Durham Cathedral is the greatest Norman building in England, perhaps even in Europe. It is cherished not only for its architecture but also for its incomparable setting. For this reason it was inscribed together with the Castle as one of Britain's first World Heritage Sites.

The Cathedral is visited each year by hundreds of thousands of worshippers, pilgrims and tourists. We hope you will be one of them.

Dr Cordelia Beattie from the University of Edinburgh found the text in the cathedral archives, confirming it as the missing middle chronicle of ThorntonŌĆÖs autobiographical memoirs.
