Durham Parkrun

About Durham Parkrun

FREE weekly 5km event for runners of all standards

Durham Parkrun Description

Implemented by a small but dedicated group of enthusiastic volunteers from a variety of running backgrounds, Durham parkrun has been supported by local employer Allied Bakeries and Durham University, allowing us to deliver a high quality, safe, free weekly run which encourages participation, volunteering and above all, physical activity regardless of age or background, bringing our local community together on a regular basis to enjoy a shared community space.

The accessibility of parkrun is key - whether you are wanting to aim for a PB every week or simply complete the 5km course, all our runners come along safe in the knowledge they will be supported, encouraged and inspired to reach whatever goals they set.

We had a slight issue with the results this morning but after a little bit of tweaking we think we have the majority of them correct and have resubmitted them to parkrun HQ.
Thank you to the 300 runners and 25 volunteers who joined us for a very wet parkrun! We hope to see you all again next week.

User

Happy parkrunday!
Its a little bit wet but we have checked the route and we are ON!!
See you all soon!

User

We have been out tonight and with the help of Mike Parker there are no trees blocking the route.
The route back to Maiden Castle has a fallen tree on it but this is passable if you duck under it. It might be a bit tight if you are trying to get under with a buggy so you might have to use a different route back.
As more high winds are forecast we will check the route again in the morning to make sure no other trees have fallen. If we need to cancel we will post on facebook a...nd twitter as soon as the decision is made but at the moment we are ON!
See you all tomorrow (hopefully)!

Happy International parkrun day!!! Happy 14th birthday parkrun! #loveparkrun #dfyb #parkrunis14 🎈

User

1 more sleep until International parkrun day. Celebrating that 13 runners and 5 volunteers completed the Bushy Park time trial and the phenomenon of parkrun began!
In celebration we would love as many of you as possible to wear your milestone or apricot t shirts to Durham parkrun tomorrow 😊

Just 36 hours to parkrun day. The volunteer roster’s still a bit sparse so we’d really love a few more helpers. Most of the roles have vacancies so have a look at the roster http://www.parkrun.org.uk/durham/futurero ster/ and email us at durhamoffice@parkrun.com if there’s a role you can fill. Thanks.

User

Happy birthday parkrun! 14 years wow! We cannot thank you enough Paul Sinton- Hewitt #loveparkrun #parkrunis14 #dfyb

Lovely morning for Durham parkrun’s pacing week 🏃‍♀️😄

User

Yeaaahhhh all our pacer bibs are out to play tomorrow! Thank you to the 6 volunteer pacers who will be taking part in our first paced parkrun tomorrow. See you all in the morning #loveparkrun #dfyb #parkrunpacers

User

We have a very sad and lonely 22 pacer bib yet to be asked out to play with all their friends this Saturday. If anyone would like to make them smile and pace 22 mins on Saturday they would be so happy 😀

User

Exciting news Contra online store is now live! For those of you who are wondering what Contra is, it’s a new technical clothing line from Paul Sinton-Hewitt the founder of parkrun! Proceeds from sales go towards the parkrun fund to further spread the parkrun love #contra #loveparkrun

User

We are going to try something new this week at Durham parkrun! We have purchased some swanky new pacer bibs and would like to put them to good use with a paced parkrun.
We are looking for volunteers to pace 20, 22, 25, 27, 30 and 35 mins. If you would like to give it a try please email durhamoffice@parkrun.com with you name, barcode and which time you would like to pace.
First come first served but we will hopefully make this a regular thing so don’t be disappointed if you don’t get a chance this time #loveparkrun

User

This week's run report - enjoy!

User

Thank you to the 350 runners, joggers and walkers who joined us this morning and the 30 volunteers who made it possible!
We are aware of a slight issue with the results, we are looking at it and we will update them as soon as we have sorted it.

We are ON!!
A little.....well actually quite a big tree won't stop us at Durham parkrun! A tree is blocking the usual route but we are able to run a slightly amended route tomorrow morning.
A massive thank you to Jill, Debbie and Mark who have run the route tonight and removed the trees and branches that covered the route.
... So we will see you all tomorrow morning for another great parkrun! Don't forget there is a university open day on so we are expecting it to be a bit busier around maiden castle.

User

We are flying towards parkrunday but we still need a couple of parkrun superheroes to help fill our volunteer roster. If you can help please drop us a message below or email us at durhamhelpers@parkrun.com
Durham University are holding an open day on Saturday so we expect Maiden Castle to be busy. Please think about how you travel down to parkrun and use public transport, walk, run or cycle down if possible.
See you all in the morning!

User

Was there a while ago on hol and would love to get back, lovely course, lovely people and well organised.

User

This is an event that has massively changed my life by giving me a great introduction to running! Great friendly atmosphere and a course that offers loads to beginners and experienced runners alike. Will be better still once we can get back to the original course!

User

Newbie to parkrun but had a blast running together with my youngest.

Great group of people that just love to go out and run. Foster's market at the finale was a treat.

User

My son has just started running and has now completed two park runs at Durham, everyone has been so friendly and encouraging - great atmosphere and very well organised. Brilliant

User

My first Durham parkrun and 45th Parkrun. First time I have broken 21 minutes. Definitely now my favourite with good scenery and varied route.

User

Massive thanks to Durham parkrun for being there for me. When you’re running 5K in 20 mins and told you’ll never run again you need the passionate, kind, supportive people at Durham to help you. Running free again with a big smile

User

Loved the new (old) route. I even enjoyed the field. Thanks to all the volunteers, you were all fab.

User

Love durham parkrun -inclusive nature (there really are all abilities from v fast to less so which is great) and all down to the amazing generosity of volunteers -plus great place for cup of tea afterwards.

Can't wait to do some parkrun tourism and eventually, waaay in the future, break the 25 min barrier!

User

I'm just starting out and jogging/power walking the 5k - but every week I aim to beat my time and it kind of becomes a little competition with yourself! Great atmosphere and support from all who attend - come along and join in the fun!

User

Great run well organised, I have run this a few times for charity & to help me build up to manage my first ever 10k runs for charity this year.

Gives you the motivation to keep going with the support along the way.

User

Fantastic route and superb organisation. Thanks!!!

User

Durham parkrun is always well organised and everyone is very friendly. Usually they have a few pace maker runners about 25 and 30 mins which helps if you are aiming for a time. The course is mostly flat on grass and paths. I marshalled yesterday as I had a XC on Sunday. My husband ran, he is just starting out and prefers Durham course as it's flat. If you go to this parkrun take a spare barcode to put on yr car window as they check the cars in the car park now.

User

Did my first park run on Saturday 16th September and it was great, the bridge was an experience to cross quickly but all enjoyable.

User

Did my 1st parkrun ever at Durham march 2018 and it really is for every one if your thinking about doing it and worried your going to be surrounded by club athletes decked out in club colours don't worry there are people of all ages and abilities some are running times you can only dream of others are going at a brisk walking pace every one makes you feel welcome the spirit of the event is definitely taking part is the most important thing not the winning the course is mainly over playing fields so puts less impact on knees and ankles good for avoiding injuries

User

Completed my first park race on Saturday and it was very well organised by all the volunteers.

Only issue was car park was not, although no fault of organisers.

User

Brilliant course, nice and flat with lovely views of Durham. Everyone was so friendly, what a great sense of community at this Parkrun! Thank you for making me feel so welcome 😊

User

Absolutely blown away by Durham Parkrun, scenically I would say it is the most spectacular Parkrun course I have done, absolutely beautiful, and to get inside 20 minutes on my first attempt over the rainbow, never mind over the moon, will be back again no question, highly recommended!!

User

Very good course full of variety and friendly atmosphere. The only thing that lets this run down is the short length of the finishing funnel when it gets busy. It needs extending around the bandstand.

User

Did my first park run here as a visitor and really enjoyed it, it was rather wet and muddy around the course but it was nice
